Tribulation comes from the latin word tribulus which means the thresh.
Threshing was done at first with a stick to beat and separate stalks from grain.
Later a sled with tooth-like projections underneath would be driven over a pile of harvested stalks.
Threshing appears in scripture as happening to Israel as well as other nations.
In Zechariah 12 you see the present situation in Israel where they have always been protected.
All while the setting for the last invasion is slowly coming together.
In Zechariah 14 God no longer protects Israel as they are invaded for the last time, taking Jerusalem only to be destroyed by the second coming.
