Truth

I do not understand that the miracles of the spiritual gifts are available today. As for the Holy Spirit it depends upon what one means by it.

The gifts of the Spirit were a time limited offer then?

Can you point us to the Scripture that gives the expiration date?

Love is the "more excellent way" you refer to. So your position is Love is so obviously manifested in the Church that Christ no longer needs gifts to build His Church? Which also implies Love was unavailable to the early Church, and whoever had gifts available to them.

I hope you can see the problem with this reasoning ...

Nope, wasn’t me. Nor do I believe the Holy Spirit nor Spiritual gifts are not for us today.

My point was simple, though. The verse you tagged doesn’t say anything about the Holy Spirit teaching us all God wants us to learn. It’s about the Holy Spirit reminding and helping the 11 understand what Jesus had spoken to them while He was with them!

You didn’t answer:

I do apologize as I did read that wrong. Let's go back to your post #7 and start again.

You said in John 14:26 it was only the disciples that received the Holy Spirit. If you read the full context from vs. 15-30 Jesus was speaking directly face to face with the disciples, but yet they were still hearing with a carnal mind. The disciples could not understand with their carnal minds what Jesus was teaching them, but they knew he was a prophet sent from God and accepted the authority and power which he taught with through miracles, signs and wonders. It would not be until the Spirit of God (Jesus) was taken up out of the tomb and revealed to the hearts of those who believed on him that the same Spirit (Holy Spirit) would be sent back down to indwell those who believed. This began on the day of Pentecost as there were gathered around 120 in the upper room, Acts 1, 2, and that same indwelling continues until Christ returns.

John 14:26 But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.

Matthew 3:11 I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance: but he that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost, and with fire:

The Holy Spirit will teach you things the carnal mind cannot perceive. Jesus explains the purpose of the Holy Spirit and the relationship of the believers to Christ and what relationship the believers have to the world in John chapters 14 and 15. Please read both chapters before you read on as the importance of these two chapters will help you understand the rest of this chapter on the Holy Spirit.

We receive power and authority through the Holy Spirit to carry on the works of the Lord until His glorious return. In order to stay in Gods will you must posses the mind of Christ to know the works we do are not of ourselves, but that of the Father who started a good work in you. Jesus has started a good work within you and we can only carry out these works through the Holy Spirits guidance as we help meet the needs of others who need a touch from God.

Acts 1:8 but ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.

Matthew 28:18 and Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.
Matthew 28:19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:
Matthew 28:20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen.

The Holy Spirit bears witness of Jesus to us as he did to the disciples on the day of Pentecost for us to gain truth through Spiritual eyes and ears. The disciples could not understand the works of the Lord with their carnal minds until they received power from God and after that the Holy Spirit came on them to teach them how to do the will of the Father. God gives us his power and authority through the Holy Spirit to be over comers and to take his word out into the world with love and compassion as we allow the Holy Spirit speak through us.

I do apologize as I did read that wrong.
I suspected you were misreading my answer to your question. I assure you, the Spirit indwells me. I have received the Holy Spirit. So you are still misreading my post. And yes, the Holy Spirit teaches me too. But that’s not what verse 26 is talking about.

You said in John 14:26 it was only the disciples that received the Holy Spirit.
Nope. (Nor is that what I believe. So I wouldn’t say that either.). It might be what you think I said but I didn’t say it.
What I said was:
1.
The truth is, John 14:26 doesn’t say; ”Truth is taught us by the indwelling of the Holy Spirit who teaches us all God wants us to learn.”
and
2.
We (us) now have those teachings specifically because the Helper, Helped these 11 disciples remember and ultimately understand and record what He had spoken to them.
Both of which are true.

I then asked you a question (which you still haven’t answered) about your interpretation of John 14:26 based on a consistent interpretation of the “you” in v30 with the same “you” in v26. Here it is again:

Are you being consistent and thus believe v30 (I will no longer speak many things with you) applies directly to you in the same way you believe v26 applies directly to you?

But the Helper— the Holy Spirit, Whom the Father will send in My name— that One will teach you all things, and remind you of everything which I said to you.
...
“I will no longer speak many things with you, for the ruler of the world is coming. And he does not have anything in Me,
John 14:26,30 - https://www.biblegateway.com/passage?search=John 14:26,30&version=DLNT

Does Jesus no longer speak with you?
It’s the same “you” in verse v30 that’s in v26.

John 14:17 the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you.

Truth comes from the Spirit of truth

Jesus no longer speaks verbally face to face with anyone like He did with His disciples and all that heard His teachings. I explained all of this in post # 23, which you might not have read yet.
