If you can't establish the correct context for scripture, then you will confuse the actual lesson to be learned through it by inserting your own ego where it doesn't belong.
Jeremiah 4 is not about us, but it was recorded for us that we might learn from its example of what God did to a rebellious people previously.
Scripture is for us, not about us. Where we see ourselves in situations similar to what befell our predecessors, scripture provides a guide to help us get back on track for Christ.
Jer 4:3 ¶ For thus saith the LORD to the men of Judah and Jerusalem, Break up your fallow ground, and sow not among thorns.
Jer 4:4 - Circumcise yourselves to the LORD, and take away the foreskins of your heart, ye men of Judah and inhabitants of Jerusalem: lest my fury come forth like fire, and burn that none can quench [it], because of the evil of your doings.
Jer 4:4 - Circumcise yourselves to the LORD, and take away the foreskins of your heart, ye men of Judah and inhabitants of Jerusalem: lest my fury come forth like fire, and burn that none can quench [it], because of the evil of your doings.
Jeremiah 4 is not about us, but it was recorded for us that we might learn from its example of what God did to a rebellious people previously.
2Ti 3:16 - All scripture [is] given by inspiration of God, and [is] profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:
2Ti 3:17 - That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.
2Ti 3:17 - That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.
Rom 15:4 - For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hope.
Scripture is for us, not about us. Where we see ourselves in situations similar to what befell our predecessors, scripture provides a guide to help us get back on track for Christ.
