Bible Study WELCOME TO AN IN DEPTH STUDY OF MATTHEW'S GOSPEL.

When I look at the context of these verses from 11 thru, the message is so exciting. John was speaking to the Rulers of the Jewish people but in reality it is God speaking and there is a lesson for all to consume here. The Holy Spirit kept me in tears for at least 3 months before I gave it all over to Him. That Christmas season Dollie had "He's Alive" out and every time I heard it I would bawl thinking of what Jesus did for me. The Spirit was busy with the fan, blowing the chaff out, burning it off and refining the wheat I did not realize was buried there.

This process, I feel, is reproduced in every Christian before they are saved but that next verse, "Then cometh Jesus...," and that is so like the final stage of the conversion. That night, as I walked away from the Club with my Instruments and equipment I truly did not fear those cursing cowboys and their girlfriends. Jesus had filled me with the Holy Spirit and there was nothing left to fear, nor have I since.

This is a beautiful passage here.

I agree with you that this verse simply states that the chaff is burnt up. It is the fire that continues to burn.
G2618
κατακαίω
katakaiō
kat-ak-ah'ee-o
From G2596 and G2545; to burn down (to the ground), that is, consume wholly: - burn (up, utterly).

I love your title. "See you at the Barn!"

I sort of stole that from the Gaithers. They put out two CDs about going home to be with the Lord. Simply titled "Going Home." They had a simple saying at the end, "See ya at the House" So, my catchy little saying is "See ya at the Barn."

Hey Deb. see ya at the Barn! Love you! :hug

Right back at you. :hug I love, Jesus love fests.

Wow, what a message to us Bill. Thank you for that. Praise God that he rescued you. You left your old life style and source of income. In faith, you stayed the course on the narrow road, Bravo, mighty Man of God! Bravo! I'm glad to know you and am honored to have you as a friend. In your posts, I can feel the love that you have for your Master, and how much you are committed to His plan for you, partly because of His mighty "right hand" that has been on your broken down body. You my friend are extremely important to this Forum and those you come in contact on a daily basis. YOU SIR ARE A BLESSING FROM ALMIGHTY GOD to us who love you. Keep it up as long as you can. Just remember, you are like the Apostle Paul, It's like he is saying to you, "Hey Bill, they beat up my body trying to stop me, but guess what, Jesus gave me unlimited power in spite of what Satan cursed me with, Jesus turned it around for His glory."

Love you my Brother! You're a giant in my eyes.

Day 16 Monday 9/29/14 Matthew 3:1-6 The Preacher Of Repentance.

Mat 3:1 In those days came John the Baptist, preaching in the wilderness of Judaea,
Mat 3:2 And saying, Repent ye: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.
Mat 3:3 For this is he that was spoken of by the prophet Esaias, saying, The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make his paths straight.
Mat 3:4 And the same John had his raiment of camel's hair, and a leathern girdle about his loins; and his meat was locusts and wild honey.
Mat 3:5 Then went out to him Jerusalem, and all Judaea, and all the region round about Jordan,
Mat 3:6 And were baptized of him in Jordan, confessing their sins.

John, this name was given to him by an angel before his conception, and by his parents at his birth, Luke 1:13.

Repent. I love that word repent. I think it was the first year of Bible College that I was seeking God for a theme of the ministry that He would be guiding me into. I believe that He led me to Isaiah 58:1 "Cry aloud; do not hold back; lift up your voice like a trumpet; declare to My people their transgressions." I guess if you ever speak to the ones of whom I was their pastor, they would say that that verse was true in describing the ministry that my Lord gave me. Once, a man who was a part of a group that started in my living room (house church) was asked by a stranger what kind of ministry it was, he replied, my pastor is a preacher of repentance.

John the Baptist. When I first began to study just what John the Baptist was doing, I hadn't realized that Jews were even baptized. Not only that, but baptized by immersion.

The great Prophet Isaiah had told just what John would be saying. "make His paths straight."
Isaiah 40:3 "The voice of him that crieth in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the LORD, make straight in the desert a highway for our God."

A lot has been said about what John the Baptist wore. As near as I can tell, it was a rough garment, with a leather belt around his waist. The garment was camel hair arranged somehow along with the skin, not smooth, writers say, but rough.

John's meals were rough as well. Much also has been written about what the locust was, and how it was prepared. Wild honey is said to be honey bee like we would see in trees. Apparently his diet was enough to keep him energized and alert.

The result of John's ministry was, people were confessing their sins and being baptized by immersion for the forgiveness of their sins.

I have only scratched the surface in these verses. Hopefully some of you will add some fresh information because I'm aware that much more can be said about this famous man of God.
Having been away i am looking back a bit....

Mat 3:2 And saying, Repent ye: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.
Strongs for the words kingdom and at hand..

KINGDOM
G932
βασιλεία
basileia
bas-il-i'-ah
From G935; properly royalty, that is, (abstractly) rule, or (concretely) a realm (literally or figuratively): - kingdom, + reign.

G935
βασιλεύς
basileus
bas-il-yooce'
Probably from G939 (through the notion of a foundation of power); a sovereign (abstractly, relatively or figuratively): - king.
G939
βάσις
basis
bas'-ece
From βαίνω bainō (to walk); a pace (“base”), that is, (by implication) the foot: - foot.

AT HAND
G1448
ἐγγίζω
eggizō
eng-id'-zo
From G1451; to make near, that is, (reflexively) approach: - approach, be at hand, come (draw) near, be (come, draw) nigh.
G1451
ἐγγύς
eggus
eng-goos'
From a primary verb ἄγχω agchō (to squeeze or throttle; akin to the base of G43); near (literally or figuratively, of place or time): - from, at hand, near, nigh (at hand, unto), ready.
G43
ἀγκάλη
agkalē
ang-kal'-ay
From ἄγκος
agkos (a bend, “ache”); an arm (as curved): - arm.

Is this King and Kingdom something way off in the future or is He at hand?

Matthew 3:7 "But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees come to his baptism, he said unto them, O generation of vipers, who hath warned you to flee from the wrath to come?"
I believe Jesus sorta repeats this about 11-12 times in Matthew.
John knew the generation he was born into...

Chopper said in part....
Today, the Church of Jesus the Christ is guilty of the same lack of wisdom.

Yes many still do not see as King yet. Still reject His Kingdom . Still looking for something that looks like mans idea of a kingdom... Who of us would believe a in camel hide clothing would be ushering in our King ... We are still looking for pomp ... Not a simple guy on a borrowed donkey...

I was beginning to think I was the only one interested is the study. I knew you were busy, but the others have been silent the last few days. I thought for sure I'd get some posts back on post #272. Either it was new news to them or old news but glad to get a fresh look at the Baptism in the Holy Ghost.
Nope not at all uninterested ... :)

Mat 13:30 Let both grow together until the harvest: and in the time of harvest I will say to the reapers, Gather ye together first the tares, and bind them in bundles to burn them: but gather the wheat into my barn.

Post 272 could lead into a whole new thread. :) So I thought, "Silent Deborah!" Not that I disagree with you.

1Co_15:46 Howbeit that was not first which is spiritual, but that which is natural; and afterward that which is spiritual.

Israel had physical kings
not originally desire by god. isreal as in the people, not the nation. the jew do see themselves as both. sorry moses is evidence of that.

Sorry I haven't been very involved, but I do keep up daily. Sometimes it's easier for me just to read than to post, but sometimes I just have little to add. There is some great insight in this discussion, and often times whatever I have to say would only dumb down the study.

I'm here and accounted for; just listening quietly on the couch. Very nice study, Chop and Reba!

Day 21 Saturday 10/4/14 Matthew 3:13-17 This Is My Son.

Mat 3:13 Then cometh Jesus from Galilee to Jordan unto John, to be baptized of him.
Mat 3:14 But John forbad him, saying, I have need to be baptized of thee, and comest thou to me?
Mat 3:15 And Jesus answering said unto him, Suffer it to be so now: for thus it becometh us to fulfil all righteousness. Then he suffered him.
Mat 3:16 And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him:
Mat 3:17 And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.

I will not be able to post on this Text. I hope someone can take my place today and post what you think these verses are saying. Please help me today, thank you very much.

For eleven years, my Wife and I have hosted a "street BBQ" for the fourteen neighbors on our dead end avenue, plus their close friends as well as ours. It has been a wonderful time of sharing and getting to know each other. Most of my neighbors know that I am a Christian Pastor and I get questions at times and so I pray for a "wedge of witness" each time we gather.

I'll be posting again tomorrow, and will be excited to read what you folk post today, again, thank you for your help.

Tomorrow's Study: Day 22 Sunday 10/5/14 Matthew 4:1-4 The Tempter Came Because Jesus Was Hungry.

I have prayed for your witness today.
I see Jesus coming out of the water as an unneeded act for righteousness, that is, for His righteousness. Jesus came for our edification and He demonstrated what we were to emulate, He showed us the way just as the Trail Blazers did for the people in the US as they moved west.

If we will follow the Way that Jesus marked out for us we will live successful Christ-like lives and others, seeing this will follow us by following Jesus. Jesus' baptism was an act of obedience and as His disciples we are responsible to become obedient, as He did. If we are obedient and submit to this public display of submission there, truly, is a perception of great cleansing when rising up from that watery grave. I know of no other method to gain this feeling without lying to one's self.

There are at least two good sermons in this passage but I'll not get started there this morning and will see what others have to say today.
