Did one of my compositions for GCSE music based on this piece of music :D

Tenth Avenue North-Times

I know I need You
I need to love You
I'd love to see You but it's been so long

I long to feel You
I feel this need for You
I need to hear You
Is that so wrong

Now You pull me near You
When we're close I fear You
Still I'm afraid to tell you all that I've done

Are You done forgiving
Or can You look past my pretending, Lord
I'm so tired of defending what I've become
What have I become

I hear You say
My love is over
It's underneath
It's inside
It's in between

The times that you doubt me
When you can't feel
The times that you question
Is this for real

The times you're broken
The times that you mend
The times you hate me
And the times that you bend

Well my love is over
It's underneath
It's inside
It's in between

The times that you're healing
And when your heart breaks
The times that you feel like you've fallen from grace

The times you're hurting
The times that you heal
The times you go hungry and are tempted to steal

In times of confusion
In chaos and pain
I'm there in your sorrow under the weight of your shame

I'm there through your heart-ache
I'm there in the storm
My love I will keep you by my power alone

I don't care where you've fallen or where you have been
I'll never forsake you
My love never ends
It never ends, mmmm

Mercy, by Casting Crowns

Was listening to an album, and this song suddenly stuck out to me.

Here I am a sinner broken and in need of You
Take my life and wash my fears away
For You are the 'Great I am', rest assured, I feel Your hand
Holding me until the darkness clears

A Father to the fatherless, redeemer of my soul
My Life is Yours forever, my heart will always know

Your mercy saved me, mercy made me whole
Your mercy found me, called me as Your own

Here I stand a child of Yours broken and in need of You
Break these chains and wash my guilt away
Healer of my brokenness, my weary soul will find its rest
You are my strength, the lifter of my head

You're greater than my yesterdays, You hold me close today
You're the Lord of my tomorrows, my heart will always say
You're greater than my yesterdays, You hold me close today
You're the Lord of my tomorrows, my heart will always say

Your mercy saved me, mercy made me whole
Your mercy found me, called me as Your own
Your mercy saved me, mercy made me whole, me whole
Your mercy found me, called me as Your own

You called me as Your own
You called me as Your own
Thank You for Your mercy
Thank You for Your mercy

Your mercy saved me, mercy made me whole
Your mercy found me, called me as Your own
Your mercy saved me, mercy made me whole
Your mercy found me, called me as Your own
You called me as Your own, Your own

More sort of Christian Contemporary style, right?

Good words.

Blessings.

Yeah. Casting Crowns has a soft rock style, mostly. I quite like it, actually. They were one of the first Christian contemporary bands I discovered.

I don't think any of their tracks is hard rock, really. Not sure if the band is even capable of accommodating the hard rock style, which is fine, but they're really the sort of group whose music can be adapted for church services, often.

Blessings.

Yeah, they don't do any hard rock. Still one of my favorite bands, all the same. My favorite song by them is My Own Worst Enemy.

That one song I was just listening to (and am still listening to), the music sounds very soothing.

questdriven:

Like, when you listen to hard rock stuff do you sometimes need to hear soothing music afterwards? or maybe the soothing music time doesn't necessarily bear relation to whether you just heard hard rock/ heavy metal.

It all kind of begs the question of whether you feel you 'need' soothing, soft rock Christian contemporary?

or: how you feel you 'need' hard rock, too?

Not sure I'm expressing myself right, though.

Blessings.

No, I just listen to whatever I'm in the mood for, mostly. If I listen to hard rock on evening, usually it's all or the main thing I listen to that evening.

For music that I use for worship, usually it's of the softer variety. But that has more to do with the lyrics than anything, I think. Casting Crowns' songs just seem more like actual worship songs to me.

I can understand what you mean about Casting Crowns being for worship, yes. I think the band has played in many Christian congregations.

If you are now accustomed sometimes to listening to mostly hard rock all evening, I suppose it just shows how deeply you have become dedicated to the style, as being expressive of you, how you feel, I guess.

Blessings.

Haven't really listened to anything in the past few days. I've mostly just been watching my brother play video games over the weekend. =P
Plus my ear hurts. Think it has an infection.

Hope you'll be feeling better soon.

I guess you wait until a tune such as Red's Forever really grips you, and then you'll maybe listen to it over and over, right? (like I have done!)

Blessings.

Yeah, I tend to listen to specific songs over and over.
I take time to listen to new songs or ones I haven't heard in a long time as well.

So do you have any one next best favorite by Red, that is also hard rock? (I know not all of them are quite as hard rock as others.)

Blessings.

I guess other than Shadows, Who We Are.

questdriven;

Ty.

Okay so I found Red's Who We Are, and was listening to it.

It kind of starts out medium rock, but after about 18 seconds its proper hard rock character emerges to the fore, doesn't it.

The lyrics seem to be about the believer's certain experience of eternal life by faith.

And then: at around 2.38, there are suddenly the words: 'We will never die, We will never die, We will not deny, We are now alive': all sung as a throaty roar with genuine, rigorous hard rock accompaniment!

Sounds really, nice, doesn't it? :)

I imagine you like to keep playing it over, anyway.

Blessings.
