What are you listening right now?

I really like Sanctus Real Shining. So epic.

Indeed. Their other song (the name escapes me at the moment) actually became an anthem for me for a while. The one about not being taken up in trying to drive your success and missing the boat on what is happening with your family. That song, along with other things, helped me through a rather difficult time in my life.

I tend to listen to songs I like until I'm sick of them, then I go to something else for a while until I'm not sick of them anymore.

questdriven:

I see, so sort of, a lot of concentrated hard rock/heavy metal over and over? then leave it for a while and later go back to it.

I'm a bit like that myself, in the wanting to listen to something over and over, anyway.

Sounds like they are a Christian band, anyway.

K: So are Sanctus Real Shining hard rock/heavy metal, as well?

(I would look them up, but I don't want to wake my wife... :) )

Sanctus Real is a Christian band, as far as I am aware, but decidedly not hard rock. Shinedown is secular and hard rock. They did a really good cover of a Lynyrd Skynyrd song, Simple Man. Both acoustic and "normal."

Well, questdriven is likely to appreciate Shinedown, anyway, because she's really a hard rock woman.

For myself, I'm still kind of into the older hymns.

I was given a couple of Sanctus Real albums earlier this year. I like them. (Especially the song Leap of Faith, right now.) I like rock in general, just with somewhat of a preference for certain styles.

Sounds like the whole rock scene is something that you've been discovering in the past year or two, I guess.

There's a lot of Christian rock out there to discover, anyway. Including Christian hard rock and heavy metal.

Worn, by Tenth Avenue North
I’m Tired I’m worn
My heart is heavy
From the work it takes to keep on breathing
I’ve made mistakes
I’ve let my hope fail
My soul feels crushed by the weight of this world
And I know that You can give me rest
So I cry out with all that I have left

Let me see redemption win
Let me know the struggle ends
That You can mend a heart that’s frail and torn
I wanna know a song can rise from the ashes of a broken life
And all that’s dead inside can be reborn
Cause I’m worn

I know I need to lift my eyes up
But I'm too weak
Life just won’t let up
And I know that You can give me rest
So I cry out with all that I have left

Let me see redemption win
Let me know the struggle ends
That You can mend a heart that’s frail and torn
I wanna know
a song can rise from the ashes of a broken life
And all that’s dead inside can be reborn
Cause I’m worn
My prayers are wearing thin
And I’m worn
Even before the day begins
I’m worn
I’ve lost my will to fight
I’m worn
Heaven come and flood my eyes

Let me see redemption win
Let me know the struggle ends
That You can mend a heart that’s frail and torn
I wanna know the sun can rise from the ashes of a broken life
And all that’s dead inside can be reborn
Cause all that’s dead inside will be reborn

Though I’m worn
Yeah I’m worn
How I feel right now.

I guess at this time you (and your family) might be preferring soothing hymns of comfort. Like, instead of your often preferred hard rock and heavy metal?

Blessings.
I sometimes listen to songs that match my mood, yes. That could be heavy metal, or some other genre. In that case it depends more on the lyrics than anything, I think.

questdriven:

Well, interesting.

At any rate you seem completely relaxed with heavy metal and hard rock.

(& do let us know of other good tune and bands of these and other genres. I'll post some of my own, too.)

Blessings.

I like 'In Christ Alone', various artists. Including the Gettys.

It's so popular that various Christian artists have made really good recordings. My wife and I have been listening to it recently.

Who We Are, by Red

Only posting one verse that I particularly like, along with a little bit of the next verse. :)
We were the ones who weren't afraid
We were the brokenhearted
We were the scars that wouldn't fade away

How did we let go?
How did we forget that we don't have to hide?
We won't believe the lies again
We won't be paralyzed

We can be who we are, now we are alive
We can fight, they cannot contain us
It's who we are, we are undying
We are forever

We won't hide our faces from the light
Eliminate the space between us
It's who we are, we are forever
It's who we are

We were the tears that passion cried
We were the sacrificed
We were the flame that wouldn't die inside

How did we go wrong?
We will not forget, we won't get left behind
We won't give up this fight again
We won't be denied
