What are you listening right now?

Okay. Has your mom listened to it, too, maybe? (Hope your mom finds peace of heart at this stressful time with your dad's illness, btw.)
No. I don't think she'd be interested. She never really approved of Christian rock itself, let alone heavy metal. But at least she doesn't mind me listening to it...too much. She did buy me a Skillet album for my birthday earlier this year, because it's what I asked for.

Oh okay. With Christian Heavy Metal she maybe thinks that for her tastes it's even more raw and elemental than Christian rock, does she? or something like that.

Your mom did buy you a Skillet album did she? so which one was this (if you happen to remember?).

But you sound like you know what you like, anyway.

Blessings.

She got the album Awake. Over half of the album is made up of my favorite Skillet songs. =)

My mom thinks, or used to at least, that rock music is a perverted form of music or something. I've looked all over the arguments for that presented by her and my church. I used to believe them, but I no longer think those arguments hold any water. I've had some great worship experiences with Christian rock, and that's one thing that convinced me. Why would God use it for such a purpose if it was truly wrong?

Oh well. The fact she gave you the Skillet album must mean your mom does think it's nice music for you to appreciate, anyway. She must know you really like it, anyhow, right?

(Maybe it's Korey Cooper and Jen Ledger's tattoos that your mom wasn't sure about, though :) ).

Blessings.

Shadows, by Red
The sun has set, I close my eyes
I pretend everything's alright
Drowning in anger from all these lies
I can't pretend everything's alright
Please don't let me fall forever
Can you tell me it's over?
There's a hate inside of me like some kind of master
I try to save you but I can't find the answer
I'm holding onto you, I'll never let go
I need with you with me as I enter the shadows

Caught in the darkness I go blind
But can you help me find my way out?
Nobody hears me, I suffer the silence
Can you tell me it's over now?
There's a hate inside of me like some kind of master
I try to save you but I can't find the answer
I'm holding onto you, I'll never let go
I need with you with me as I enter the shadows
I'm holding onto you I'm holding onto you

There's a hate inside of me like some kind of master
I try to save you but I can't find the answer
I'm holding onto you, I'll never let go
I need with you with me as I enter the shadows

Shadows, by Red

Hi questdriven:

Lots of rhythms there. I looked them up also and Red's style is described as hard rock with metal influences, if this sounds about right.

I see that Shadows is really a Christmas album. (Maybe your mom would eventually get to like it?)

Blessings.

Yeah, some of their songs sound more hard metal-ish than others.

I like the chorus best. =)

Oops, where it says, 'Drowning in anger' I at first mis-heard 'Child in a manger'...

This is why I mentioned it having a Christmas theme at first...

Anyway, you might find that your mom would be willing to buy you Red, as well as Skillet, eventually.

(Hope your dad is making progress, too.)

Blessings.

I was thinking about starting a thread about mis-heard/understood lyrics. Of course with how well my other threads have been doing I am not so sure it will go anywhere.

Fight Inside, by Red
Enemy, familiar friend
My beginning and my end.
Knowing truth, whispering lies
And it hurts again.

What I fear and what I've tried,
Words I say and what I hide.
All the pain, I want it to end
But I want it again.

And it finds me
The fight inside is coursing through my veins.
And it's raging
The fight inside is breaking me again.
I'm still the same, pursuing pain.
Is it worth all that I've gained?
We both know how this will end,
But I'd do it again.

And it finds me
The fight inside is coursing through my veins.
And it's raging
The fight inside is hurting me again.

And it finds me
The war within me pulls me under.
And without You
The fight inside is breaking me again.

(It's nothing.) It's everything.
(It's nothing.) It's everything.
(It's nothing.) It's everything.
(It's nothing.) It's everything.

And it finds me
The fight inside is coursing through my veins.
And it's raging
The fight inside is hurting me again.

It's breaking me.
It's breaking me.

I'm falling apart.
I'm falling apart.

Well, sounds like it's another one of those ones that starts smooth and melodious...

...and then after about 17 or 18 seconds, the really, really loud hard rock rhythms begin. Seems you really like it when it does this, right?

Blessings.

Yeah. There's another version of this song that's titled "Nothing and Everything", which has the same lyrics but with softer music. I like the harder version better.

Well, okay. If your preferences that you mention are representative, sounds like you are growing / have grown up into a woman who is really more into the hard rock.

(If available, preferably Christian hard rock, I guess.)

Blessings.

I tend to listen to a variety of genres, but hard rock/heavy metal do seem to be the ones I listen to the most lately.

For me it isn't a phase. I have been listening to hard rock/heavy metal for quite a while now. Of course I also listen to a myriad of different styles as well. Which is probably why I haven't gotten tired of it. I do go through seasons where I will listen to a certain genre, or a couple genres for a while, then go back to a broader selection of music.

I have a pandora account that has 16 stations that I usually just put on shuffle and listen to everything throughout the day. Makes for a good mix.

I tend to listen to songs I like until I'm sick of them, then I go to something else for a while until I'm not sick of them anymore.
