Growth What Did You Learn In Church Today?

It's a matter of patriarchal tradition in the orthodoxy.
It isn't that God said he'd never call a woman to preach. It is the idea that men intentionally misinterpret the scriptures in order to claim God said women were not to be called to preach.
One woman serving a church from the pulpit shuts down the argument God does not call women to preach.

Men that insist on that error of their ways though in claiming a woman isn't called are creating a god in their image. The Bible tells us, God's thoughts are not our thoughts. Our thoughts are not God's. Men that think God believes women unable to preach because they're women are short sighted and ignorant of God's supremacy and creative power.
God made both men and women in his image and likeness.
Paul saying women should remain quiet in church had not a thing to do with women pastoring. Rather it was a directive to the churches of the time. When the congregations were segregated, men seated separate from their wives so there were no distractions during the sermon.
Women were to wait till after the service to inquire of something they may not have understood. Rather than call out to have it explained then and there.
If women were to remain quiet in the church women would not sing in choirs. Nor pastor Sunday school. But the chauvinist male will claim that woman pastoring Sunday school isn't pastoring! No, she's teaching. A distinction without a difference.

I agree. Times have changed. Things were different back then.

And yet some things remain the same. Especially among Orthodox Jewish men.

It's a very dangerous thing for any mortal, much less a Christian , to insist they know what God would not do and this they base on their own prejudices. Like women not being called to preach. That is serious egocentric to think God believes women unfit to preach when a male that argues that is the first one certain women are unfit to preach.

Where are you guys encountering this kind of stuff?

My wife called our pastor this afternoon. The ladies of the church who are in the quilting group are getting together to find out about this shake up.
Apparently the pastors phone has been ringing off the hook. Not a lot of people stayed after service to ask about this marriage ceremony that's pending. I think shock caused a lot of us to just go to our cars and leave. The quietest I've heard it after service in a long while. We'll see.

I realize that it isn't really funny but I just got an image in my head of a tumbleweed rolling by that church after the announcement. Lol that part is sort of funny though.

They showed a picture that seemed to indicate Jesus rode "side-saddle."

Actually that would seem more dignified on a donkey.
I was thinking that entering Jerusalem on a donkey was prophesied
So that was a fulfillment.
But the donkey was also fitting because it's a beast of burden and Christ bore our griefs and carried our sorrows. He took our sin, took our burden.

I'm sorry I'm confused. Did we change the subject again? Lol

You bring up a good point here Brother. The story is a shadow of things to come in the end times. Let's have a look. The donkey had never been ridden by man, was untried and untrained (That's us!)...The Apostles and people came and put their coats & mantles upon it's back...(The spiritual mantles that we are to bear in these times!)...and then the Lord Himself will ride this untrained stupid beast (again, us!) to victory into His millenial reign and Kingdom.

That's the short version of what I got out of it. It was a sort of study. The importnt thing is that we as believers have and will have a responsibility to (let the mantle be put upon us...), and allow Jesus to ride (be within us doing His will), to carry this out. We are not bystanders in this spiritual war taking place, waiting for Jesus to come la la la change us one day...The Lord needs boots on the ground NOW to help. The harvest is plenty but the workers few...

Question: DO we...learn so that we can then do...or do we do so that we can then learn?
Hah! :wink

A little history. Conquering Kings entered towns on horses. Benevolent, peaceful leaders typically rode donkey colts.

If a man desires to be a bishop, he must be a man of one wife.

Has marriage changed ? Gender definition, yes too both but what is the point if God says his nature's isn't changing and his word.

I have been under both sides of this argument, but we can't ignore this.

Well today I learned a number of different things. First of all, I learned that our church gets rather packed for Easter services. I also learned that despite the fact that Jesus was crucified and died and we have rejected Him and doubted Him, He still wants to have a relationship with us because He loves us very much and is always taking care of us. :cross

I learned that the preacher where we are now visiting believes the "Rapture" (which I don't believe in, at all) is supposed to be in "two parts."

I also RE-learned that most Christians have an idea that Jesus is going to be lucky to manage to save even one-tenth of the world. (But I think Scripture states in Isaiah 19:18ff (among other places) that it is more likely that the ratio of Christians will be 5 to 1....... (Five Christians to one unbeliever.)

we had a good message this morning, the pastor made mention how important Easter services use to be. Easter sunrise today we just cook Easter breakfast . the things one considered important are no longer important.. learn today? i was reminded of some core values i hold to......sometimes preaching is a reminder

the numbers is in christ hand. as Christians we are not lucky. there are many theories on the rapture .that belongs to Christ also

Please don't tell me that we have to get into this argument again. Especially on Easter Sunday.

I know what you mean but I can’t help but think that celebrating a gay marriage in a church is inappropriate, announcing it on Easter Sunday, the day we celebrate Jesus's victory over sin is double inappropriate. Like you I don’t want to argue on Easter Sunday, I just think it’s wrong. Sorry.
