I grew up without ac. I do prefer it, but I don't have to have eat but in that I like it, I don't see it as a greed if I do have ac. do keep in mind.florida not equal to Indiana with heat.

If I lived in FL and didn't have ac, you'd find me living and sleeping on the beach with the ocean breeze.
AZ is where I have trouble with the heat. It's not humid so that's a blessing but there's not always a place to go even for a breeze.
But if we had never experienced these comforts we would be used to it and not long for them.
And why in Mexico do they siesta during the afternoon heat.....:)

We can pray for more than our needs according to Psalms

Psalm 37:3-4
3 Trust in the Lord, and do good; so shalt thou dwell in the land, and verily thou shalt be fed.

4 Delight thyself also in the Lord: and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart./

Whatever we have, we are to be good stewards of these items, regardless of what they are. If one has wealth, one must be a good steward of it and use it wisely without greed or ulterior motives.

If getting stuff was your purpose, having it all granted with the snap of a finger would seem rather purposeless, y'know? Working towards stuff is part of the process, the fact of having worked hard to get where you are is a large part of the satisfaction.

Not that gaining more stuff should be our purpose. It shouldn't. That would be idolatry.

Why are people so afraid of having money, money is just a tool that the Lord blesses us with to meet our needs, to share with ours and yes even some of our desires.

People pray for children all the time because it's a desire of their heart. The Lord blesses them and they are gifted with gifts that cost thousands upon thousands of dollars. God's not stingy. :)

It's not the "having" that's the problem. It's all the temptations that come with having a boat load of money.

My problem with money is, well, pride I suppose. If I start making lots of money, then I start thinking like 'I'm all that' and proud and stuff. I can manage money real well (well, at least small amounts of it, lol). it's easy to stop thinking about the Lord when one has a pocket full of money. If one is scraping, then it's easy to remain focused on the Lord.

The good thing about my situation (self employed) is, if work is good, then I have no bill problems. If work is slow, then I have more time to spend with the Lord/studying. So I am able to grow rich (in the Lord) when work is slow. Then go out and make a weeks wages in a couple hours and turn everything around financially. So I'm content. The Lord takes care of me. I eat every day, the lights are still on...what's to complain about? Nothing. Praise the Lord!!

Really? What would you do if you do a boat load of money? I'll bet you wouldn't buy a casino or something stupid like that. :wink

Thank God that I didn't get all my stupid wants as a teenager and young adult.
If I could have what I want when I want I would go from thing to thing in boredom.
If I came into money I would go to college, for sure.
Also I would start a Soup Kitchen.

If I came into a boatload of money, I like to think that I'd be a philanthropist. It's only money.

actually they do that in all Hispanic nations to include spain and well if you can afford to rent or buy a beach home. you can afford ac.

If you have everything you want you do not appreciate anything.

Hmm....from experience with a few truly wealthy people I think it all depends on how one is raised. I can tell you that the Dupont heiress I met and I am friends with one of her friends is not that way at all and it's not the attitude of my neighbor across the road from me who is also an very wealthy heiress.
There are people in this world who are very aware of how fortunate they have been in their lives, they are the people who share what they have received.

Yes but I am thinking that is not the norm.

Yes but I am thinking that is not the norm.

I wonder if that is because most people do not grow up wealthy. So when they work hard for what they receive they have a harder time giving it up?
I think that most kids who grow up getting whatever they want can grow up to be fine people but it is truly the attitude of the parents that determines the attitude of the child.
I think some parents just give kids whatever they want to keep them out of their hair or they don't want to take the time to argue with them, it's just easier to give in. In this case children can get the wrong idea about getting material things. They come to see it as how one shows love, it becomes a comfort thing to them. Rather like a child who is always given edible treats when they are sad or as rewards for good behaviors. Food can become a way that they comfort themselves.
People who have been raised poor can become overly fastidious about their money. Penny pinchers even when it comes to themselves, they fear being unable to pay their bills, they make sure they always have plenty of money put away in case of famine.
Then there are those who kind of fly by the seat of their pants. When times are bountiful they are great at sharing and when times are lean they are happy to just get by.
