Where is Satan? Is he in heaven? Is he on earth? I was taught that he is in heaven being held by Michael but his spirit is free to roam on earth however....I am no longer certain of that. We know that Satan tempted Jesus so he was on earth at that time......

  • * Luke 4:8 And Jesus answered and said unto him, "Get thee behind Me, Satan: for it is written, 'Thou shalt worship the LORD thy God, and Him only shalt thou serve.'" (13) And when the devil had ended all the temptation, he departed from Him for a season.

For what season....what is being said? To where did he depart and what is meant by being "behind Jesus"? Did he go to heaven until the end or.....?

And too, Jesus told us.....

  • * Luke 10:17-19 And the seventy returned again with joy, saying, "Lord, even the devils are subject unto us through Thy name."And He said unto them, "I beheld Satan as lightning fall from heaven. Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you.

The seventy are a type for the man child. When did Jesus behold "Satan as lightning fall from heaven?" Was it before He sent the elect/man child to testify or was it after? Or, was the event when he "fell" when he rebelled in the first age and this was his "fall" from grace? Is this when he and the rest of his entourage of fallen angels were kicked out?

  • * Revelation 12:7-12 And there was war in heaven: Michael and his angels fought against the dragon; and the dragon fought and his angels, And prevailed not, neither was their place found any more in heaven. And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him. And I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, "Now is come salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of His Christ: for the accuser of our brethren is cast down, which accused them before our God day and night.

Part 2.......

I always saw those Revelation verses about the war in heaven and Satan and his angels being cast out as future and yet.....? :chin If Jesus saw them fall long ago...then they are here on earth or..."under the earth." :o

  • * Exodus 20:4 Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth.

    Philippians 2:10 That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth;

Revelation 5:3 And no man in heaven, nor in earth, neither under the earth, was able to open the book, neither to look thereon.

Revelation 5:13 And every creature which is in heaven, and on the earth, and under the earth, and such as are in the sea, and all that are in them, heard I saying, Blessing, and honour, and glory, and power, be unto him that sitteth upon the throne, and unto the Lamb for ever and ever.

All those "under the earth." :shocked! It could mean all those that have died but "in the water under the earth" makes me believe much more is being said. I know how :crazy this sounds but....bear with me. Let's explore what it means for....it is written.

Part 3..............

  • * Genesis 1:20 And God said, "Let the waters bring forth abundantly the moving creature that hath life, and fowl that may fly above the earth in the open firmament of heaven." (24) And God said, "Let the earth bring forth the living creature after his kind, cattle, and creeping thing, and beast of the earth after his kind:" and it was so. And God saw that it was good.

What is the "moving creature that hath life?" It isn't a whale as that is in the next verse. The "life" this creature has is "nephesh" which means "soul." :confused Consider too the beast of the earth. What are they? What is Satan called?

  • Genesis 3:1 Now the serpent was more subtil than any beast of the field which the LORD God had made. And he said unto the woman, "Yea, hath God said, 'Ye shall not eat of every tree of the garden.'?" (15) And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her Seed; It shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise His heel.

Jeremiah 31:27 "Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will sow the house of Israel and the house of Judah with the seed of man, and with the seed of beast.

1 Corinthians 15:38-39 But God giveth it a body as it hath pleased Him, and to every seed his own body. All flesh is not the same flesh: but there is one kind of flesh of men, another flesh of beasts, another of fishes, and another of birds.

So, are the beasts of the earth in [Genesis 1:25] the fallen angels....including Satan? We know Satan was already in his fallen state when he tempted Eve in the garden so perhaps his rebellion was the war in heaven and they were cast out to earth before this age began. [Revelation 12:7-12]

Notice that the "beasts" were "brought forth" (not created!), just as the "moving creature that hath life (soul)" wasn't created but was "brought forth" by the waters. Notice too that mankind was created after they were brought forth and mankind was given "dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth," [1:28] but not over the beasts!

If you are presenting this as a Bible study, you're in the wring place! :lol

It didn't start out this way but...that's sure where it's ended up. Please place it where it needs to be.

I have always thought that to,,,,interesting,,,,,one would think satan is not here defacto....because if he was,,, I always felt the world be in much worse shape....

how do you incorparate this verse?????

Revelation 12:12
Therefore rejoice, ye heavens, and ye that dwell in them. Woe to the inhabiters of the earth and of the sea! for the devil is come down unto you, having great wrath, because he knoweth that he hath but a short time.

Up in the sky. :o :crazy

He's an angel. Lol. ;) :D

I'm sure he drops down from time to time. :\

Wrong!
There are no beasts masquerading as people!
Read Genesis 1:24-28 again. :study
'God made the beast of the earth after his kind'
'God said unto them...have dominion over...every living thing that moveth upon the earth.'

I think the "short time he hath" is the five months...when he is allowed out of the pit. Until then he is locked away....

Revelation 9:1-2 And the fifth angel sounded, and I saw a star fall from heaven unto the earth: and to him was given the key of the bottomless pit. And he opened the bottomless pit; and there arose a smoke out of the pit, as the smoke of a great furnace; and the sun and the air were darkened by reason of the smoke of the pit.

That releases his locust army. We go through the tribulation. Then Jesus arrives and Satan is locked away for the millennium [Revelation 20:1-2]

I appreciate your help with this thread Nightmare. I always saw Satan as being cast from heaven at a future date but I'm not sure now.

Well please enlighten to what the definition of "beast" is as it is used here.......

Jeremiah 31:27 "Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will sow the house of Israel and the house of Judah with the seed of man, and with the seed of "beast".

You could certainly be right Sinthesis but...what do the verses mean?

As far as having "dominion over every living thing,"....the fallen angels are NOT spiritually living. They are already condemned.

In heaven
Job 1:6 Now it came to pass on the day when the sons of God came to present themselves before Jehovah, that Satan also came among them.

On the earth
Job 1:7 And Jehovah said unto Satan, Whence comest thou? Then Satan answered Jehovah, and said, From going to and fro in the earth, and from walking up and down in it.

Job 1:12 And Jehovah said unto Satan, Behold, all that he hath is in thy power; only upon himself put not forth thy hand. So Satan went forth from the presence of Jehovah.

Influencing large groups of people to kill other people :\
Job 1:13 And it fell on a day when his sons and his daughters were eating and drinking wine in their eldest brother's house,
Job 1:14 that there came a messenger unto Job, and said, The oxen were plowing, and the asses feeding beside them;
Job 1:15 and the Sabeans fell upon them, and took them away: yea, they have slain the servants with the edge of the sword; and I only am escaped alone to tell thee.

Job 1:17 While he was yet speaking, there came also another, and said, The Chaldeans made three bands, and fell upon the camels, and have taken them away, yea, and slain the servants with the edge of the sword; and I only am escaped alone to tell thee.

Lets keep in mind that this was moved to the Bible Study Forum and in the Bible Study Forum there is to be discussion but no debating.

Thanks. :)

Ummmmm WW.....Genesis 1 and Genesis 2 have different accounts about creation...

Gen 2:19
19 Out of the ground the LORD God formed every beast of the field and every bird of the sky, and brought them to the man to see what he would call them; and whatever the man called a living creature, that was its name. NASU

Words of wisdom from Solomon....

Eccl 3:17-19
18 I said to myself concerning the sons of men, "God has surely tested them in order for them to see that they are but beasts." 19 For the fate of the sons of men and the fate of beasts is the same. As one dies so dies the other; indeed, they all have the same breath and there is no advantage for man over beast, for all is vanity. NASU

Eating dust. The real of the flesh, fleshly minds, carnal fleshly nature. That is where is power is.

Gen. 314And the LORD God said unto the serpent, Because thou hast done this, thou art cursed above all cattle, and above every beast of the field; upon thy belly shalt thou go, and dust shalt thou eat all the days of thy life:

No ret it is not different accounts.....Look at the text and again and find out who/what is being addressed....

And im sorry but that bible you are reading from is ,,,,,WOW :shame ,,,,, how about we take a KJ view.....

Ecclesiastes 3:17 "I said in mine heart, `God shall judge the righteous and the wicked: for there is a time there for every purpose and for every work.' "
Ecclesiastes 3:18 "I said in mine heart concerning the estate of the sons of men, that God might manifest them, and that they might see that they themselves are beasts."
Ecclesiastes 3:19 "For that which befalleth the sons of men befalleth beasts; even on thing befalleth them: as the one dieth, so dieth the other; yea, they have all one breath; so that a man hath no preeminence above a beast: for all is vanity."

My hope is that it does create discussion and/or debate (remembering we are children of God :yes ). Something is being said in these verses and I think that only the top layer has been read for too long. Please place it wherever you feel it is best suited Vic. (as long as that isn't far, far away and forever and ever. :lol ) I can see Sinthesis shaking his head :yes

Stressing a point,,, and proving a point is two different things......It seems like people like to stress the point because it tradition that has been passed down,,,,but the manuscripts/hebrew dosnt agree,,,neither does common sense....

It has been both stressed and proven using Scripture. I see no problem with that. The onus is on those who want to use extra-biblical text to show us something that isn't there. Nothing more than what scripture is providing for us is being said. If there is hidden meaning there, then whose to say there isn't hidden meaning in Exodus or Joshua or even in the Messianic verses or in the NT itself?

Do we want to stretch this out so far we start treading into Gnostic territory? No, we don't and the Staff won't go for it.

1 Cor 1:27 But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty;
