Where is Satan right now?

Benoni said:
Benoni,
Would you say that Satan is not a being one should take lightly? Yes, he is God’s devil and God uses him as a tool or a servant to accomplish His perfect will, but he is nonetheless a reality that we should avoid and pray that God would protect us as individuals and the corporate Body from his schemes and wickedness.
Bubba

I do take him lightly; for he is nothing compared to who Jesus is.

He eats dust; that is our flesh, our fleshly word, our fleshly understanding, our fleshly minds and that is his food; he cannot touch that which is not flesh, the spirit. There is nothing Satan can do unless God has total control of it. All good and evil are subject to the sovereign control of God not Satan. Yes the earth is full of evils of man which was inspired by Satan; yes satan is the god of the earth; BUT God is the God of the earth.

The Psalmist David was perceptive in the Spirit when he wrote these immortal words, “The earth is the Lord’s, and the fullness thereof; the world, and they that dwell therein†(Ps. 24:1). Does the earth belong to the devil? Does the world belong to the devil? Do they that dwell in the world belong to the devil? Does anything on the earth belong to the devil? Did any of it, even before Calvary, belong to the devil? Not in David’s day, it didn’t! “The earth is the Lord’s!†“And the fullness thereof!†“The world is the Lord’s!†“And they that dwell therein!†Who do you belong to? Who do the nations belong to? Who do the wicked belong to? IT IS ALL THE LORD’S! The devil doesn’t own one square inch of it, nor does he own one poor wretched human on it. God created the devil as a manslayer and a murderer from the devils beginning.

Not just a tree or two, not just a mountain or two, not just a nation or two, not just the church, but all the earth is the Lord’s and the very fullness thereof. We are His whether we know it or not, we are His whether we like it or not, whether we desire to serve Him, or whether we are presently in rebellion against His will. God has everything and - 4 - everyone in the palm of His almighty hand! He is Sovereign! Job said, “In whose hand is the soul of every living thing, and the breath (spirit) of all mankind†(Job 12:10).

The prophet Daniel penned these inspired words: “The Most High…liveth for ever, whose dominion is an everlasting dominion, and His kingdom is from generation to generation. All the inhabitants of the earth are reputed as nothing: and He doeth according to His will in the army of heaven, and among the inhabitants of the earth: and none can stay His hand, or say unto Him, What doest Thou?†(Dan. 4:34-35).

God is saying to us that He is sovereign. Another way to express that truth is: God owns the earth and everything in it  He does what He wants to do and nobody can stop Him from doing it. In particular He is sovereign with what He does with the earth. God does not have to ask anybody’s permission to do anything He wants with any part of the earth or anyone on it  and none can hinder or resist Him!

If the earth is the Lord’s and the fullness thereof, then we need to somehow come to understand that God has never at any time dealt with satan on a percentage basis.

God never did tell Satan that he could have ninety percent and God would be satisfied with ten percent.

Neither did God ever say that satan could have ten percent and He, God, would settle for ninety percent.

WITH GOD IT IS ALL! ALL belongs to Him! First, because He created it, and second, because He redeemed it. Just as you may temporarily leave a valuable watch at the pawn shop and later return to redeem it, so God assigned to satan a temporary and limited sphere of influence over the creation, for the outworking of His wise and wonderful plan, but HE HAS NOT CEDED OR TRANSFERRED OWNERSHIP OF EVEN ONE INCH OF IT TO SATAN FOR A POSSESSION.

The reality is, after giving the adversary a limited lease and sphere of operation, God came down in the Person of His Son and redeemed the world and everything and everyone in it! In the same way that you get your watch back from the pawn shop when you redeem it, so God gained full control of the whole world when He redeemed it.

To say that there is any part of God’s creation that satan now sovereignly controls or that he will possess forever is a blatant repudiation of Christ’s redemption and a horrible blasphemy against God. The scriptures clearly reveal how ownership is the central factor in both creation and redemption, the link that binds them together.

Two things are inherent in ownership  purpose and responsibility.

Do you know that if a person makes or buys anything He surely has purpose in mind for it? And is it not equally true that when a person makes or buys a thing he then assumes the responsibility for it? The man who purchases a good hunting dog has a definite purpose in owning the dog, and if he is not a hunter he will not buy it.

With ownership of the dog there comes the responsibility for the dog, to feed and care for it and treat it humanely. You have, I suppose, sometime bought something? As you have paid your money for it and it was delivered to you did you not have a plan for it? And are you not now responsible for it?

Same with God’s creation, when He created it He had a plan and a purpose for that plan and He owns the earth and all that is in it.

Even if you feel you can handle satan you still shouldnt take him lightly ,,because of what hes doing to others that might not be as strong......

In answer to the OP, I'm not convinced Satan is actually a person. Rather, I think Satan refers to something in all of us; that tendency toward sinfulness which is impossible to remove (at least, on this side of eternity).

Satan reads in Scripture more like a figure to represent a particular 'nature' or 'tendency' rather than an actual person.

Yor playing a dangerous game here,,,,.I have heard of this new age doctrine :mad that says satan isnt a real being.......Christadelphians correct????

Well you can put all that behind you for the book of Job says

:: 6Now there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the LORD, and Satan came also among them.

7And the LORD said unto Satan, Whence comest thou? Then Satan answered the LORD, and said, From going to and fro in the earth, and from walking up and down in it.

8And the LORD said unto Satan, Hast thou considered my servant Job, that there is none like him in the earth, a perfect and an upright man, one that feareth God, and escheweth evil?

9Then Satan answered the LORD, and said, Doth Job fear God for nought?

10Hast not thou made an hedge about him, and about his house, and about all that he hath on every side? thou hast blessed the work of his hands, and his substance is increased in the land.

11But put forth thine hand now, and touch all that he hath, and he will curse thee to thy face.

12And the LORD said unto Satan, Behold, all that he hath is in thy power; only upon himself put not forth thine hand. So Satan went forth from the presence of the LORD.

This is GOd and satan having a conversation,,,,are you going to say he ist a real person after reading the words he spoke,,,,,,,,,well what about???

1Then was Jesus led up of the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted of the devil.

2And when he had fasted forty days and forty nights, he was afterward an hungred.

3And when the tempter came to him, he said, If thou be the Son of God, command that these stones be made bread.

4But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.

5Then the devil taketh him up into the holy city, and setteth him on a pinnacle of the temple,

6And saith unto him, If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down: for it is written, He shall give his angels charge concerning thee: and in their hands they shall bear thee up, lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone.

7Jesus said unto him, It is written again, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God.

8Again, the devil taketh him up into an exceeding high mountain, and sheweth him all the kingdoms of the world, and the glory of them;

9And saith unto him, All these things will I give thee, if thou wilt fall down and worship me.

10Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.

Are you going to say that a little piece of satan lives in Christ also or is Christ just going crazy out in the dessert talking to Himself??????

Basically agreed! ... :yes

The flesh is weak, too week for Adam and/or Eve to resist the wilds of temptation, however it came.
A&E were given a command 'don't eat this'...that command inferred 'DEATH' from the start, because of the weakness of the flesh in the presence of 'law'!

  • Matthew 26:41 Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation:
the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak. KJV

    Romans 8:3
3 For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh,
God sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin,
condemned sin in the flesh: KJV

New Age? I don't see how it's New Age. I'm not being overly mystical. I'm simply saying that a tendency within humanity was personified for the sake of talking about it. It's poetic. Many things are terribly difficult to speak on except through poetry.

Yeah. That sounds a bit like a myth (which I use in the technical, academic definition: a sacred story that explains the nature of humanity and its relationship to the divine).

Why do so many people believe that something should be taken as historically literal unless it is explicitly stated otherwise?

Are you going to say that a little piece of satan lives in Christ also or is Christ just going crazy out in the dessert talking to Himself??????

Sounds like Christ was wrestling with his sinful tendency.

Ok before I blow a gasget,,,,,what is the definition of tendencys????1 a : direction or approach toward a place, object, effect, or limit b : a proneness to a particular kind of thought or action
2 a : the purposeful trend of something written or said

So what is the definiton of sin?????? It is a transgression of Gods will.......

So you dare say Christ had a sinful tendencys!!!!!!!!!!! :mad :mad :grumpy The person who saved your butt,,,your going to say He was sinful,,,,,,,why God oughta :chair :chair :chair until you wake up,,,,,Jesus Christ dealing with sinful tendencys.........what a load

OK WHY DONT YOU TELL/US ABOUT SOME OF THOSE SINFUL TENDENCYS OF HIS

I would agree, Satan is not an actual person. He would be a god. Lol. "gods" would be spirits i.e. angels/fallen angels. Spirits work in the mind, on the emotions, and also in the physical.

The mind and heart
2Co 4:4 in whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of the unbelieving,

Act 5:3 But Peter said, Ananias, why hath Satan filled thy heart to lie...

The physical
Mat 4:8 Again, the devil taketh him unto an exceeding high mountain, and showeth him all the kingdoms of the world,

Job 2:7 So Satan went forth from the presence of Jehovah, and smote Job with sore boils

The Spirit of Christ is in believers, the spirit of Satan is in the people of the world

1Jn 4:4 Ye are of God, my little children, and have overcome them:
because greater is he that is in you

than he that is in the world.

That's how spirits operate. They are inside of people. Jesus is in many people all at once, apparently so is Satan. But, they are still singular entities. :o :chin

Haha, let me say that I believe Jesus was fully without sin. I do think, however, that he was tempted, and I think that temptation amounts to a tendency toward sin.

I have a tendency toward sin, though that does not mean I fulfill that tendency.

I didn't say Jesus sinned.

I have a tendency toward the center of the earth: that is, the center of gravity for this planet. It is because of that tendency that I remain rooted to the planet. It does not mean, however, that I actually approach the center of Earth's gravity.

A ball on an un-even surface has a tendency to roll around on that surface. There may be a number of factors that prevent that, however.

I am not claiming that Jesus actually sinned. I am merely claiming that he was tempted toward sin, and had a tendency toward sin which he overcome in every instance. Another way of putting it would be that Jesus, when tempted, was truly vulnerable in a certain way, but overcame that vulnerability.

Healing the blind and the lame,,,, feeding the 1000's,,,, dying on a cross walking on water O yeah these are some real sinful things,,,,your a joke bub......

He was tempted by Satan in the desert. For an individual to be truly tempted, doesn't there have to be the possibility that they will fall? I cannot tempt a person to fly up into the sky. That is beyond their power. I can, however, tempt a person to jump. That is, for most people, well within their power.

and I havent forgot about you saying the book of Job is a myth,,, :screwloose

Hey then maybe Adam and Eve are a myth ,,,maybe the whole bibles a myth Heck maybe everythings a myth and im not really typing to a moron right now...... :rolling

I do think the story of Adam and Eve is mythological as well, yes. Remember though, I am using the technical, literary definition, where 'myth' does not mean 'false story', but rather, 'sacred story/narrative that presents the generation of humanity and its relationship to divinity'.

With all that said,,,still a dangerous game to not believe satan as being a literal being....

You can put whatever poetic spin on it you would like,,,that fact is that satan is a literal being that does exist......You believe satan refers to a little something in all of us correct????? Well what about when he was Lucifer?????

See by saying that you dont believe satan is a real person,,,,you are throwing away tons of scripture and replacing it with your own ideas,,,,another dangerous game in itself....

12How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations!

13For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north:

14I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High

4The waters made him great, the deep set him up on high with her rivers running round about his plants, and sent her little rivers unto all the trees of the field.

5Therefore his height was exalted above all the trees of the field, and his boughs were multiplied, and his branches became long because of the multitude of waters, when he shot forth.

6All the fowls of heaven made their nests in his boughs, and under his branches did all the beasts of the field bring forth their young, and under his shadow dwelt all great nations.

7Thus was he fair in his greatness, in the length of his branches: for his root was by great waters.
--------------------------------------------------
8The cedars in the garden of God could not hide him: the fir trees were not like his boughs, and the chestnut trees were not like his branches; nor any tree in the garden of God was like unto him in his beauty.

9I have made him fair by the multitude of his branches: so that all the trees of Eden, that were in the garden of God, envied him.

10Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD; Because thou hast lifted up thyself in height, and he hath shot up his top among the thick boughs, and his heart is lifted up in his height;

11I have therefore delivered him into the hand of the mighty one of the heathen; he shall surely deal with him: I have driven him out for his wickedness.

-------------------------------------------

13Thou hast been in Eden the garden of God; every precious stone was thy covering, the sardius, topaz, and the diamond, the beryl, the onyx, and the jasper, the sapphire, the emerald, and the carbuncle, and gold: the workmanship of thy tabrets and of thy pipes was prepared in thee in the day that thou wast created.

14Thou art the anointed cherub that covereth; and I have set thee so: thou wast upon the holy mountain of God; thou hast walked up and down in the midst of the stones of fire.

15Thou wast perfect in thy ways from the day that thou wast created, till iniquity was found in thee.

16By the multitude of thy merchandise they have filled the midst of thee with violence, and thou hast sinned: therefore I will cast thee as profane out of the mountain of God: and I will destroy thee, O covering cherub, from the midst of the stones of fire.

17Thine heart was lifted up because of thy beauty, thou hast corrupted thy wisdom by reason of thy brightness: I will cast thee to the ground, I will lay thee before kings, that they may behold thee.

All of these things point to a literal being,,,,,,a person if you will,,,,that was once a covering Cherub but fell.......

And no I dont belive Christ was tempted to sin.......nor do I believe he had a tendency for sin.....

James 1:13: "Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man:"

God cannot be tempted with evil.......so you see why I say Christ was not tempted to sin.....

I think that's primarily poetic. I've found that a lot of what people believe about Satan comes from Milton.

All of these things point to a literal being,,,,,,a person if you will,,,,that was once a covering Cherub but fell.......

Depends upon how you interpret it. Those verses, primarily poetic you'll notice, appear to make particular statements about the nature of our 'Satanic' tendency.

Jesus was fully God and fully human. Perhaps he cannot be tempted if he is fully God, but while fully human, perhaps he is temptable.

Matthew 4:1 - Then Jesus was led by the Spirit into the desert to be tempted by the devil. (NIV)

Ok,,,you say satan is no real person right? ok...you said::: he just a small part of all of us,,,,,ok ,,,so your definition of satan is "a small part of all of us" hes not a literal being...

I dont know who Milton is,,,but I can tell you what the bible says "satan" is......and its cool that your into the poetic sense of the Word,,,,but lets not turn this into some kindergarden drama.....

You cannot look at a verse,,,justify adding your own poetic commentary to it,,,,add then render your definiton as truth.......But what we can do is look at what the bible says satan is....

Who is satan???????

Rev 12:9And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.

So we have here 4 names for satan,,,,satan,,,,,,devil,,,,,,'old" serpent ,,,,,and dragon........
:mad :devil :shades :fullauto

Lets look at rev 20:2 And he laid hold on the dragon, that old serpent, which is the Devil, and Satan, and bound him a thoushe and years,

SO satan the devil the dragon and the old serpent are the same..........

-----------------

So your telling me when God said,,,, I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.

That God really meant ,,,,,I will put enmity between "that little part of all of us" and the woman....

Or when God said,,,,,,, Hast thou considered my servant Job, that there is none like him in the earth, a perfect and an upright man, one that feareth God, and escheweth evil?
Then Satan answered the LORD, and said, Doth Job fear God for nought?

So what your telling me is God was really was talking to Himself and said "Hast thou considered my servant Job, that there is none like him in the earth, a perfect and an upright man, one that feareth God, and escheweth evil?,,,,,,and then "that little part of all of us" answered and said::"Doth Job fear God for nought?

O wait,,,dont forget the dragon is also satan,,,so that means,,,,
Revelation 16:13
And I saw three unclean spirits like frogs come out of the mouth of the dragon, and out of the mouth of the beast, and out of the mouth of the false prophet.

Three spirits like frogs came out of that "little part ofall of us"???????now thats sick,,,, but what does that matter???? cause God is going to destroy satan,,,,,

which means God is going to destroy a "little part of all of us",,,,gee I hope its not my legs.......

Hi,

I am a Mormon. Here is what I believe on this issue. We are taught that Satan is an actual person or "being" who was cast down to the earth when he rebelled against god. He was an angel who rebelled against god, denied the Holy Ghost, and tried to steal gods glory. He therefore was cast out of heaven to the earth. He actually is now around us tempting and bring us down to his level. God gave us free-agency and bodies, Satan and his followers do not have a body so they hates us. We are more powerful than him!

He and his followers are in all the crap and evil we see today. They roam the earth tempting the children of men, trying to make it so we can never return to gods presence. (pornography, unfaithfulness, jeolacy, pride, war, hatred.) He is trying everything he can do to make us miserable like him and bring us away from god so we will never return to heaven.

But in the end god will win!! Satan and his followers will be cast out and bound. God has promised it! Evil will never win! In the end, we will look upon Satan with abhorrence and think "is this really the creature that made kings fall, and men commit sin." The righteous and god WILL win in the end, Satan is just a fallen angel who wants men to be miserable like himself. - Because he is cast out of gods presence and can never come back. Anyone who does evil and chooses not to follow Satan, in the end will be judged of god and cast into hell. Never again to be in gods presence.

See here:

" 12 How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations!
13 For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north:
14 I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High.
15 Yet thou shalt be brought down to hell, to the sides of the pit.
16 They that see thee shall narrowly look upon thee, and consider thee, saying, Is this the man that made the earth to tremble, that did shake kingdoms;
17 That made the world as a wilderness, and destroyed the cities thereof; that opened not the house of his prisoners?
18 All the kings of the nations, even all of them, lie in glory, every one in his own house.
19 But thou art cast out of thy grave like an abominable branch, and as the raiment of those that are slain, thrust through with a sword, that go down to the stones of the pit; as a carcase trodden under feet.
20 Thou shalt not be joined with them in burial, because thou hast destroyed thy land, and slain thy people: the seed of evildoers shall never be renowned.
21 Prepare slaughter for his children for the iniquity of their fathers; that they do not rise, nor possess the land, nor fill the face of the world with cities.
22 For I will rise up against them, saith the Lord of hosts, and cut off from Babylon the name, and remnant, and son, and nephew, saith the Lord.
23 I will also make it a possession for the bitter, and pools of water: and I will sweep it with the besom of destruction, saith the Lord of hosts.

Isaiah 14:12-23 - The Bible

I noticed something today that shed light on this subject. The question is when did Satan come to earth?

  • Luke 10:17-18 And the seventy returned again with joy, saying, "Lord, even the devils are subject unto us through Thy name." And He said unto them, "I beheld Satan as lightning fall from heaven.

Notice above that Jesus beheld Satan fall, fall as lighting or...a bright shining. Below...he doesn't fall but is "cast out!"

  • John 12:31 Now is the judgment of this world: now shall the prince of this world be cast out.

14:30 Hereafter I will not talk much with you: for the prince of this world cometh, and hath nothing in Me.

So when Jesus made the above statement...the prince of this world, Satan, was in heaven but would soon be cast out for when "the feast of unleavened bread drew nigh, which is called the passover"....

  • Luke 22:3 Then entered Satan into Judas surnamed Iscariot, being of the number of the twelve.

That is when he was cast out but...when did Jesus behold him "fall as lightening?" These are two separate events. I believe Jesus was referring to the first age, the one in which Satan rebelled. He was a bright shining star but he fell! This happened before this present age began for he was in his fallen state when we are first introduced to him in the garden.
