You're right....I need to clarify that statement.

We are told an angel "(9:1-2)was given the key of the bottomless pit. And he opened the bottomless pit:....(3)And there came out of the smoke locusts. (11) And they had a king over them, which is the angel of the bottomless pit, whose name in the Hebrew tongue is Abaddon, but in the Greek tongue hath his name Apollyon.



(I am editing the above. 9:1-2 as it is in error. The angel sounded but it wasn't the angel that opened the pit, it was...."I saw a star fall from heaven unto the earth: and to him was given the key of the bottomless pit. And he opened the bottomless pit." )



Then you take into account....

13:11 And I beheld, another beast coming up out of the earth; and he had two horns like a lamb, and he spake as a dragon.

17:8 The beast that thou sawest was, and is not; and shall ascend out of the bottomless pit, and go into perdition: and they that dwell on the earth shall wonder, whose names were not written in the book of life from the foundation of the world, when they behold the beast that was, and is not, and yet is.

11:7 And when they shall have finished their testimony, the beast that ascendeth out of the bottomless pit shall make war against them, and shall overcome them, and kill them.
 
Rev. 9:11"and they have over them a king -- the messenger of the abyss -- a name [is] to him in Hebrew, Abaddon, and in the Greek he hath a name, Apollyon."

A better translation (YLT), especially since I gravitate to Satan not actually being an angel, but a creation of Adversary to God's goodness.

What would it be like to spend a lifetime 'LOCKED UP' in FEAR - Terror...? Starting with Adam...

WW...as far as Satan being "locked up" it is a spiritual thing in our mind. When my mind is 'locked up' it is the results of FEAR and I/we fall in to the pit. The fear of things 'in the earth' have to do with laws that govern the earth, including the stones in the 'pit'. There is another kind of fear that comes from 'under the earth'. This type of fear is loss of money, power and reputation.

So...where is Satan at RIGHT NOW...? Individually, that depends on where a person is with God in their spiritual experience. Collectively, as far as the world is concerned, I believe each 'nation' will answer to God, and to the extent they reject God they are 'in the pit' (dwell on the earth) or they are caught in the 'snare' and dwell 'under the earth'. Satan is 'locked up' in the pit (law), but in the 'snare' he is this 'angel of light' and appears to be free from law. Only when the gospel comes to an individual or a community is one 'free from the pit' or the 'snare', because they no longer live/dwell 'on the earth' or 'under the earth'.

Technically your right,,,he is not a ange,,l but a fallen cherub,,,which are a little different then angels...

from the position of this angel falling,,, it would appear to be satan,,,but of course how can he be coming out of the pit and opening the pit??????

Gosh, I don't know Nightmare. It could well be Satan that is the star that falls "unto the earth" and he is the one the key is given to? Is he in the pit or are just his fallen angels in the pit?

An angel locks him away but the one unlocking the pit wasn't called an angel....he is termed a star. I think what I'll do is go back through the thread now that I've gathered all the verses I can think of on this subject and see if it is any clearer.

But I believe satan is locked behind the thore of God where he

That is the question! The only reference I have found is when he is locked away for the millennium. Was he the star that was given the key to the pit? Was he in the pit? If yes, when was he placed there?


I've pulled lots of Scripture about this...I just need a fresher brain to go through it to see what clues God has given us so it will have to wait till morning for me. Any help would be appreciated. What do you believe? Is he in the pit now or in heaven?

Exactly. We are not in the millennium, therefore, Satan is not currently locked up.

As Scripture shows he is lord of this world and "roams about seeking whom he may devour", so it makes sense that he is in this world. He may be able to enter heaven (see Job) but I don't think he is confined there.

I was hoping you could add some insight to that one,,,I either believe it was when Christ was on the cross ,,,,,or when Christ told satan "get behind me" Im leaning towards the second of the two.....

He hasn't been. That's my point. It's during the millennium, which hasn't happened yet.
 
There's a war in heaven and satan was cast out and he was angry because he knows he has a short time, when did this occur? maybe after the death of Jesus on the cross, or his ressurection either way Satan isn't yet bound for a thousand years. He still roaming the earth seeking whom he may destroy (take down with him)

I agree Micaela. The world is presently under his control but...it is because our Lord allows it. We are to be proven and this is part of it.

Yes, the Lord does allow Satan to rule this world, that's why we are advised not get caught up in the ways of this world. The ways of this world are Satan's ways. But the time will come when Satan will be locked away and he will have no influence over us for a 1.000 years.
Oh and yes, I am expecting a baby girl :muchlove November 6th is the day! I have been blessed
