Who Owns the Deed to the Moon?

So, does the early bird get the worm or the moon? First come, first served? China has plans to stake its claim to property of the moon by 2026 (just over 1 decade from now) when they envision the first "inhabitants" of our lunar satellite. Does anyone find it a little mind-blowing that we could look up in the sky and see China lit up by the sun? If they realize their goals, should they (or any country) claim ownership of it? How much of it should they be given ownership of? The whole thing?

We could be standing outside at night with our children or grandchildren and literally point up in the sky and say, "That's China.". :eeeekkk

I want the first Moon colony to be a casino. If it gets people to go out into the middle of the desert, then why wouldn't people travel up in space to go to one? But no, the Commies don't need to start putting their stuff on the Moon.
 
No national or international body as of yet recognises extraterrestrial claims to the moon.

It might change if somone builds a house/base there.

I think it's a good thing whoever gose up there is going to be furthering the reach of humanity I don't care if they claim to do it for american superiority or Chinease superiority.

No matter how much money you invest into third world countries they only ever seem to get worse because they are ruled by an ever rolling series of warlords international aid is always misapproriated into conflicts by this corruption the more money that's put into the region the greater the misappropriation.

Even if you achive somthing the infastructure will be destoryed by conflict or enthnic cleansing.

So instead we use the hundreds of billions of dollars trying to colonise the moon?

No, I"m sorry. Earth first. The moon can wait.

Having said that, I do have quite an interest in space. I am not against space travel and exploration.
 
pebbles that the same logic we christians are against with abortion and also euthanisa. let em starve or kill them.

i could equally say the same with socialised medicine in the western nations. the poor are always there so why bother.

and many people are poor for a myriad of reason and often throwing money at it doesnt work. there are ways to fix this or reduce it but truly and only upon christ's return will it end.

Exactly. Helping those in need is a clear theme in the Bible. True, until Christ's return, poverty and the like will never go away completely. But the Bible warns us against inaction and complacency. I don't think the attitude that "we can't get rid of it, so let's just not bother trying" is a Biblical one.

Ownership of the moon will be determined as property ownership has always been determined, by who has the most guns. "Ownership" of North America by the Indians didn't seem to matter.

In the last analysis like everything else, "The cattle on a thousand hills" belong to the Lord.

My opinion is, any idea of staking claims to owning the Moon is... lunacy! :lol

I still propose the first moon base be a casino. WHO DOESN'T want to fly to the moon to play at a casino? People go to the middle of a desert to to do it.

It's not that we "can't get rid of it" but rather the techniques begin used are hazardously ineffective to just throw money at third world countries even with the best of intentions invariably ends up making the conflict and bloodshed a hundred times worse. As the money is used to buy weapons whitch end up destroying the infastructure that was already build by funds that wern't misappropriated.

Mmm although your right in that adversity of a problem shouldn't follow abandonment. I suppose although I would point out that R&D for space travel yeilds it's own rewards. historically, Space blankets, New insulating materials, water purification methods, Microwaves, all invented for the purpose for traveling to the moon safely also make post disaster regions safer.
 
true that is why i am not totatlly against but the reality is for the nasa program is that it wasnt for "science and the bettering mankind" but to beat the russians(ussr) and not to let them have dominance.

most space programs lovers seem to forget that was and is the function of nasa. the military side of the cape is triple the size of nasa civy side.

while its true that nasa isnt now a primary military thing that was the intent of it. as the cold war was raging and russia beat us twice already. with sputnik and yuri gargarin being the first man in orbit.

I don't disagree with your post here. We need to do something about places like Africa. Perhaps we can indeed go about it differently, but something should be done.

I am not against space exploration, however I think that some of the money could be better spent elsewhere, such as aid.
