No it is not false as all those nations (people) that were made rich through her will hate her when they realize they to will drink from the cup of God's wrath for being seduced by the mother of harlots. It's God, not man, that sends fire down to burn her up. Rev 17-18. They/we are told to come out from her and IMO those that followed after the whore repented and turned back to God before the return of Christ.

I don't always agree with Gill's Exposition of the Bible, but can agree with his commentary on Rev 17:16 that I just looked up, but have pretty much believed this for many years.

When you study that Daniel's vision of the four beast in Daniel 7:1-8 and all the other scriptures that reference this like Rev 13:1-10 you will see that the last Empire was the Roman Empire that received a deadly wound, but that wound was healed. The little horn that has was raised up is the revived Roman Empire being mystery Babylon.

In Rev 12:3 the other sign John saw was a great red dragon meaning Satan. Remember, this is a vision and a sign as Satan has not yet been thrown out of heaven. The description of the dragon being great and red depicts its nature and character as being fierce and murderous, John 8:44. This red dragon is depicted as having seven heads, ten horns, and seven crowns upon his heads. This is also confirmed in Rev 17 as mystery Babylon is described. The seven heads and ten horns refer to the original ten kingdoms of which three were subdued by the little horn of Daniel 7:8. The last kingdom which stands greater than all the others is that of a revived Roman Empire (little horn) that takes control over all the ten nations who then implements a deceiving peace treaty to a world that is in great distress. No He was not wrong, but we also have to remember that not all of Israel are God's chosen people. Israel lost her right to be called Gods chosen people, (God did save a faithful remnant), as they fell into idolatry worshiping other gods as they allowed themselves to fall from Gods grace as they followed the lust of their own hearts as they practiced Judaism, 1 Kings 9:1-9.

The last empire is not the Roman empire. The last empire that I know of was Great Brittain. If I'm not mistaken, Great Brittain is perhaps the largest empire the world has ever seen or it at one time or another encompassed 3/4 of the world. The Ottoman empire was very large as well and also the Mongol empire. All three of these were after the Roman empire so we know the Roman empire wasn't last.
