Why so many religions?

Just two united groups seen at the close of time, Matt. 6:24. One are true Loving Covenant keepers, Rev. 12:17 and the others are all united in satans camp. (Rev. 17:1-5!)

--Elijah

"Oh heck, that pesky Satan has messed up my plans. Oh, never mind, I'll do it anyway. Maybe people won't notice ."

This is very negative.
I'll show you the positive way of saying it.
"Well satan is trying everything to mess up my plans with all his 12's and virgins. But I'll show him the right way how it works".

Welcome back:wave:waving. I was actually thinking about you when I was 'writing' this thread. How are things with you?
Thank you Classik. I have been unwell but am not too bad now.

I don't think I will be very active here again, I just 'dropped in' to have a look; I got rather fed up with several Janus faced here before.

Do you think if I formed the God of a religion into the image of myself that I'd outlaw adultery, fornication, stealing, revelry, etc. etc.?

Why would you not? We outlaw what we find to be detrimental to ourselves and to our communities. No one wants to be stolen from so stealing would obviously be outlawed. Things like adultry would be as well as no one wants their significant other "consorting" with another person. Any man that has daughters surely would be quick to speak out against fornication.

We as people tend to make laws based on our values and concerns. We all want to be safe and we want our families to be able to live in safe communities so our rules will be reflective of these concerns.

I don't share that optimism. war time experience has shown me otherwise. laws DONT make honest nor holy. they are merely an acknowledge of what is already accepted in general but a society can just as easily changes it mind.

anti-gun laws wont stop illegal gun purchase, neither does the prohibition stop drug use.

Everyone is made with a God shaped vacuum in our hearts and only God can filled it ~ Blaise Pascal. Most religious people are seeking this divine being, whether is it Taoism, Hinduism, Buddhism, Islam. However, they choose which "divine being" suits them better, be it tradition, rationalism or personal preference. That is the reason why there is so many religions...

That is absolutely right. The psychological/medical explanation is that we all have instinctive 'received' fears and knowledge, just the same as most animals do. Even though we have become such powerful animals, our prime instinctive fear is still fear of the unknown - 'what is that moving around in the dark?' etc. As well as the rational fear of venturing out in the dark where there are lethal animals, over the centuries people have made up all sorts of tales to scare people - goblins, witches, trolls, etc. Fear of that sort of thing gets passed down through the generations via both tales and by chemical memory (proven by experiments with mice & rats). Fear turns a wisp of mist into a 'ghost' or perhaps an 'angel' or a 'fairy' - and the myths are reinforced.

It is undoubtedly the same with 'gods' . People seek explanations, have a dream, think they have had a revelation, tell others and 'pop', yet another 'god' is created. If your forefathers believed in gods, and obviously the vast majority of them did, it is inevitable that you will instinctively believe in gods. I wonder what will happen after a few more generations of non-believers?

Man cannot make a worm, yet he will make gods by the dozen. Michel de Montaigne

Thanks and welcome to CF.ner :wave. In your opinion do you think all these religions can 'coexist'? Or which would you recommend for someone?

I hope LetTheLittleChildrenCome answers your question but I can't resist responding to the word 'COEXIST'.

Someone here, sorry, I can't recall the name, uses this logo as an avatar:

It seems, to me, so glaringly obvious that we should all try to coexist in peace together but when I started to research that logo I found that many people were virulently against coexistence, against the very notion and so much against it that they were damaging cars that used that logo as a bumper sticker.

Would Jesus have wanted us to coexist or fight each other?

Why so many religions? Only the devil knows...there are actually only two. Bible believing Christianity and antichrist religions.

The Old and New Testament actions of God can be understood with a simple analogy. If you were to start a fire on a windy day......first you would pick out a small sheltered spot and gather a small amount of kindling.....(God picked out the Jews to start the fire of His loving revelation....but under strict circumstances at first).............then you would bring in much larger pieces of wood and allow your fire to be more exposed to the wind and even rain if it were large enough....(this is an anology of how God appears to be less strict with religion once it was established...yet it is all a united effort of the One God).

As regards "Why there are so many religions?"..........using my anology of building a fire....protecting the sparks and kindling are REQUIRED at first....(when God establishes His Just demands)....but then wind protection and large, semi-wet wood can be thrown on later without much care. Therefore, is the fire builder contradicting himself to act differently in these 2 stages. No, not at all.
God sheltered the flame of the Jews....and now Christianity...and Mono-theism....and even many others are being saved by God's Mercy.

Therefore, our God is a God of variety too...and great Mercy..."who will have mercy on whom He will have mercy".
