Why some people sneeze in bright sunlight

Awwww, baby Ian.

I'm not surprised this happens to Tim, see look:

Sneezing as the result of being exposed to a bright light—known as the photic sneeze reflex—is a genetic quirk that is still unexplained by science, even though a strange link to drinking Pepsi and this sneezing phenomenon has been found. Coca-Cola enthusiasts believe it may be due to a chemical imbalance in the brain due to the high level of toxicity of taste that is found in Pepsi.

Hmmmm, interesting!

:pepsi :verysick

Hello, my name is Theofilus, and I'm a photic sneezer.

Have you ever noticed how people always close their eyes when they sneez? Maybe this happens when your pupils can't close fast enough, because of how bright the light is, and so your brain makes you sneez so you'll close your eyes while they adjust.

The 3rd Pepsi drinker with this problem! Somebody alert the AP! I have cracked the mystery.

But I drink Icelandic Pepsi. If you ever come here and try it, you'll know it's not the same drink at all as American Pespsi. Only the label is the same.

Sorry, Pepsi loyalist, your words are inconclusive and do not affect my newly confirmed hypothesis.

Very interesting.

I drink Coke and I don't have this problem.

I'm guessing Mike has this problem too, because diet Coke is just as bad as Pepsi. :D

If I feel a sneeze coming on and want to help it along I try to look into a bright light. I hate it when I feel like I'm going to sneeze and then it never comes.

I drink Pepsi all the time and I don't sneeze in bright sunlight.

Then again, I don't go out in bright sunlight all that much...gives me migraines....my family thinks I'm some kind of vampire.

So, I sit in the dark, drinking Pepsi and I don't sneeze! :pepsi

You think diet Coke is in any way equitable to Pepsi!?! You've been in the sun too long!

The two cannot even be compared. The quality of Pepsis is so much greater than Diet Coke (or any Coke for that matter), that I don't understand how people can even consider them related.

I think you've been drinking too much Pepsi, my friend. It has messed with your mind. Diet Coke is just as bad as Pepsi. It's a shame that a Coke had to sink so low, but at least we've still got the original Coke, Coke Zero and Vanilla Coke. :yes

Maybe I would feel the same way if I'd spent my entire life upside down.

So of course a thread about sneezing would come down to a conversation about Coke and Pepsi. Why not? Hands down, Diet Coke is the single greatest beverage in the history of the the universe! Someone tried to give me a diet Pepsi once and pass it off as Diet Coke. I'm tellin' ya, my life passed before my eyes! I don't know if I started to sneeze, as I was mainly concerned with getting my esophagus back down into my throat. Sneezing is probably God's mild way of telling you not to drink Pepsi. I'd stop, 'cause it could get much worse than that if He needs to amp it up.
