Revelation 14:14-16 And I looked, and behold, a white cloud, and upon the cloud One sat like unto the Son of Man, having on His head a golden crown, and in His hand a sharp sickle. And another angel came out of the Temple, crying with a loud voice to Him That sat on the cloud, "Thrust in Thy sickle and reap: for the time is come for Thee to reap; for the harvest of the earth is ripe." And He That sat on the cloud thrust in His sickle on the earth; and the earth was reaped.

14:17-20 And another angel came out of the Temple which is in heaven, he also having a sharp sickle. And another angel came out from the altar, which had power over fire; and cried with a loud cry to him that had the sharp sickle, saying, "Thrust in thy sharp sickle, and gather the clusters of the vine of the earth; for her grapes are fully ripe." And the angel thrust in his sickle into the earth, and gathered the vine of the earth, and cast it into the great winepress of the wrath of God. And the winepress was trodden without the city, and blood came out of the winepress, even unto the horse bridles, by the space of a thousand and six hundred furlongs.

Why two sickles?

The first sickle is to reap the wheat (God's people) and "bring it into His barn", and the second sickle to reap the grapes (the rebels against God) and "cast them into the great winepress of the wrath of God".

But it is written...

Matthew 13:30 Let both grow together until the harvest: and in the time of harvest I will say to the reapers, 'Gather ye together first the tares, and bind them in bundles to burn them: but gather the wheat into my barn.' ' "

The "sharp" sickle too sounds dire. Of couse, to harvest wheat it would need to be sharp but to harvest His children it doesn't sound like the proper adjective. With grapes it is just the opposite....you don't use a sickle to harvest delicate grapes so the term sickle is properly used when discussing the tares.

As the tares are the first to be gathered in the harvest then could the first sickle be cutting off something else....something, someone besides the wheat and tares?

If we think about Daniel and being "tried in fire" at the same time, does this not also sound "dire"?

  • Zec 13:7 Awake, O sword, against my shepherd, and against the man that is my fellow, saith the LORD of hosts: smite the shepherd, and the sheep shall be scattered: and I will turn mine hand upon the little ones.
Zec 13:8 And it shall come to pass, that in all the land, saith the LORD, two parts therein shall be cut off and die; but the third shall be left therein.
Zec 13:9 And I will bring the third part through the fire, and will refine them as silver is refined, and will try them as gold is tried: they shall call on my name, and I will hear them: I will say, It is my people: and they shall say, The LORD is my God.
<I don't like chapter divisions in the KJV - sometimes they can be confusing>

  • Zec 14:1 Behold, the day of the LORD cometh, and thy spoil shall be divided in the midst of thee.
Zec 14:2 For I will gather all nations against Jerusalem to battle; and the city shall be taken, and the houses rifled, and the women ravished; and half of the city shall go forth into captivity, and the residue of the people shall not be cut off from the city.

Judgment first to the house of God, yes? Our God is fiercely just. If it is difficult for the green (branch) how much more so for the dry? Who was our LORD speaking to?

But Jesus turning unto them said, "Daughters of Jerusalem, weep not for me, but weep for yourselves, and for your children. For, behold, the days are coming, in the which they shall say, 'Blessed are the barren, and the wombs that never bare, and the paps which never gave suck.'

Then shall they begin to say to the mountains, Fall on us; and to the hills, Cover us.
For if they do these things in a green tree, what shall be done in the dry?

PS. If I had to be cut, being cut with something sharp is better than being crushed and cut and possibly mutilated by the dull. I don't offer this by way of interpretation though - only a thought. :nod

I looked up the word "sharp" in Rev 14:14, maybe it will help:

I would agree with Paidon. The second sickle gathered the tares.

Rev 14:19 And the angel cast his sickle into the earth, and gathered the vintage of the earth,
and cast it into the winepress, the great winepress, of the wrath of God.

Rev 14:20 And the winepress was trodden without the city, and there came out blood from the winepress, even unto the bridles of the horses, as far as a thousand and six hundred furlongs.

But the wrath of God was on the Jews in the 1st century. Those verses were specifically about Jerusalem in and around 70AD.

Luk 21:23 Woe unto them that are with child and to them that give suck in those days! for there shall be great distress upon the land, and wrath unto this people.

Luk 3:7 He said therefore to the multitudes that went out to be baptized of him, Ye offspring of vipers, who warned you to flee from the wrath to come?

These are historical events and nothing for us to worry ourselves over. :)

Hi Sparrowhawke,

Yes...a "fire" does sound dire but we were given an example of being in a fire and not being harmed. Satan's tribulation is that fire, his deception, that will spiritually kill "two parts." Those that don't fall for the deception are His silver and gold. That same thought explains [Zechariah 14:1-2]. Jerusalem is symbolic of us....His family. We are the city and "the city shall be taken." Taken by deception and those lies place "half of the city," half of believers, into captivity to Satan but the rest of us, "the residue," will go through it too, "shall not be cut off." We will be refined and must withstand the deception.

The Luke verses repeat the Zechariah Scriptures. The city of Jerusalem (believers) will go through the fire, the deception. Those that are blessed are the silver and gold....they are those that didn't fall into idolatry/adultery but remained barren...weren't impregnated with his deception. This is the same as taking his mark in the forehead and right hand. In the forehead is to be impregnated with his doctrine while being marked in the right hand is to work feeding his deception or...paps giving suck.

:lol I agree. Sharp or swift and quick would be better if we had to be cut but....I think something more is being taught in Matthew 13.

Good morning Jeff, :wave

The second sickle does gather the tares...it's the first sickle I question. As it is written to "first gather the tares" and we see that it is the "second sickle" gathering them...what did the first sickle gather? It can't be the wheat as they are to be gathered after the tares. The tares are crushed "without the city," the city being believers.

Revelation 11:13 And the same hour was there a great earthquake, and the tenth part of the city fell, and in the earthquake were slain of men seven thousand: and the remnant were affrighted, and gave glory to the God of heaven.

I believe that is the first sickle at work...gathering Satan's fallen angels.

But the wrath of God was on the Jews in the 1st century. Those verses were specifically about Jerusalem in and around 70AD.

1 Corinthians 10:11 Now all these things happened unto them for ensamples: and they are written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the world are come.

Soon...but not in 70AD. :-) We are the city of Jerusalem, we are His temple and we are still here.

Joh 15:1 I am the true vine, and my Father is the husbandman.

14:17-20.......... gather the clusters of the vine of the earth;

One vine is from above (Jesus and all who are "in Christ")) and the other is from the earth ( Harlot church)

Joh 8:23 And he said unto them, Ye are from beneath; (Vine of the earth) I am from above: (True vine) ye are of this world; I am not of this world.

Both bring forth fruit. One unto eternal life, the other to damnation and wrath.

Who else is a "her" in the Bible? Answer: The Harlot.(she is a vine from the earth)
gather the clusters of the vine of the earth; for her grapes are fully ripe

Why two sickles?

Remember that the word "earth" in Revelation means the opposite to salvation (or heaven) It normally points to those who "live in the earth" as oppose to those who are "seated in the heavenlies" (True Christians) Once we know this, many verses makes more sense.

For instance, when the tail of the Dragon takes down a third of the stars. We can "decode" this using the Old Testament.

First stars : Abraham's seed is "like the stars" (We are Abraham's seed) Also Paul mentions stars, when speaking about Christians.

Now we must look for a "tail"
Isa 9:15 ............ and the prophet that teacheth lies, he is the tail.

Ok, so now we have the "stars" that will leaver heaven (seated in heavenly places) because they are taught a lie. That makes sense. Christians who believe the strong delusion that God will send through the mouth of a false prophet, will loose their seating in heaven and "fall to earth" . That lines up correctly also with the "great falling away", that is already happening through the many false teachings of many false prophets (ministers) that are on many pulpits today.

Isa 66:4 I also will choose their delusions, and will bring their fears upon them; because when I called, none did answer; when I spake, they did not hear: but they did that which was evil in mine eyes, and chose that wherein I delighted not.

2Th 2:11 And for this cause God sendeth them a working of error, that they should believe a lie:
2Th 2:12 that they all might be judged who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.

TWO SICKLES in the second reaping

.....one sickle comes 'out of the Temple' which is 'in heaven'
.....one sickle comes 'out of the altar', which has power over fire.

Connect with Rev 19:20

20 And the beast was taken, and with him the false prophet that wrought miracles before him, with which he deceived them that had received the mark of the beast, and them that worshipped his image. These both were cast alive into a lake of fire burning with brimstone. KJV

After posting my last post and in reading C's post about 'earth'... Rev 14:13 comes to my attention.

Rev 14:13 And I heard a voice from heaven saying unto me, Write, Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth: Yea, saith the Spirit, that they may rest from their labours; and their works do follow them. KJV

The 'wheat' do not dwell on 'earth', they 'dwell in heaven' and at the time of the REAPERS the 'wheat' are already 'resting from their labours', thereby they cannot be part of the 'reaping' that is mentioned in Rev 14:14-20. The REAPERS starting in v14....everything that is reaped is from the earth.

The angelic REAPERS v14-20 are taking care of the devil, the beast and the false prophet.
Death and Hades also come in there somewhere, but doesn't seem the REAPERS take care of this area.

So, fellow pilgrims and strangers in this world...more thoughts?

I agree with all you have written here but....aren't the grapes (of the vine of the earth) the tares? If yes, then they are gathered with the second sickle. What or who does the first sickle gather?

No...I didn't realize that. And yes...it will certainly help in understanding. :)

Revelation 12:4 And his tail drew the third part of the stars of heaven, and did cast them to the earth: and the dragon stood before the woman which was ready to be delivered, for to devour her child as soon as it was born.

I agree that his tail is "the prophet that teaches lies." But, saying that some "will lose their seating in heaven" because of his lies doesn't sound correct. Consider that the event where the "stars of heaven" were "cast to earth" was in the previous age...at Satan's rebellion. His deception then, as now, deceived many. I believe the "third part of the stars of heaven" is referring to that time and, as you said, we are seeing this happen now. The great falling away. We know it will happen (is happening) in this age and we know it will happen in the next age [Revelation 20:7-9], and we know Satan's rebellion was before his appearance in the garden so....?

Isa 66:4 I also will choose their delusions, and will bring their fears upon them; because when I called, none did answer; when I spake, they did not hear: but they did that which was evil in mine eyes, and chose that wherein I delighted not.

Yes, the delusion, the lie is being shouted from most pulpits and they have pleasure in it. :shame

As far as Death and Hades....that happens after the millennium and his last escapade. [Revelation 20:14]

Well, it makes perfect sense to me :) because if Christians can be lied to by false teachers, those teachings will definitely cause them to loose their authority (seated in the heavenlies) Remember the "throne" speaks of authority. False teaching has been teaching the people of God that they indeed have little or no authority.(This is already a fact, causing many to "walk on the earth" instead of being "seated in the heavenlies") So many are at this moment loosing their seating, which is available only through faith. Destroy the correct teaching of the Word and you will destroy their seating in heaven.

So the Bible tells us a third of Christianity will indeed loose their seating (authority) and be counted with those who are "dwelling in the earth"

Here are some good examples of "earth dwellers"

Rev 3:10 Because thou didst keep the word of my patience, I also will keep thee from the hour of trial, that hour which is to come upon the whole world, to try them that dwell upon the earth.
(Notice the tribulation is not trying those who are "seated in the heavenlies" )

Rev 6:10 and they cried with a great voice, saying, How long, O Master, the holy and true, dost thou not judge and avenge our blood on them that dwell on the earth?
(Seeing that Christians are also still alive at this time on the planet, we see that it is not talking about the physical earth, but those who dwell on the earth as oppose to "seated in the heavenlies" )

Rev 8:13 And I saw, and I heard an eagle, flying in mid heaven, saying with a great voice, Woe, woe, woe, for them that dwell on the earth, by reason of the other voices of the trumpet of the three angels, who are yet to sound.
(Again, this woe is not directed at the true people of God , who are seated in the heavenlies in the spirit at this moment . Good news indeed :) )

Here is another one:

Rev 11:10 And they that dwell on the earth rejoice over them, and make merry; and they shall send gifts one to another; because these two prophets tormented them that dwell on the earth.

Again, it cannot be all people alive on earth , because Christians will obviously not rejoice over the deaths of their fellow believers. So again, this is describing a spiritual state............dwelling on the earth as oppose to being seated in the heavenlies.

There are few more.

C

Forgive me for going off topic ( but you did say it is resolved for you :) ) But I want to share this, because it follows well with the "on earth" and "seated in the heavenlies"

Rev 12:5 And she was delivered of a son, a man child, who is to rule all the nations with a rod of iron: and her child was caught up unto God, and unto his throne.

This is amazing, and a wonderful event that awaits us still. Its the manifestation event of :Eph 2:5 even when we were dead through our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ (by grace have ye been saved),
Eph 2:6 and raised us up with him, and made us to sit with him in the heavenly places, in Christ Jesus:
(up to now, this scripture was mostly just "in faith", with few manifesting it here on earth )

This is the scripture that describes the fulfillment of :

Rev 3:21 He that overcometh, I will give to him to sit down with me in my throne, as I also overcame, and sat down with my Father in his throne.

Its obviously not talking about a big chair with God and Jesus and all the believers sitting on one large chair. Its a description of receiving authority to rule by and through the name (meaning: nature, character and authority ) of Jesus (which He again, received from the Father (the Father's throne )

Rev 2:26 And he that overcometh, and he that keepeth my works unto the end, to him will I give authority over the nations:

The 144000 are the first fruits

First fruits of what?

Of those who overcome.

I got it! :yes Our spirit is "seated in the heavenlies." His lies will dislodge believers from that spot. Thank you C. :-)
