If a rebuilt temple was a sign of the end-time, then Jesus would have squeezed that prophecy into the context. "Not one stone upon another" or "state of total-destruction and non-use" is the sign of the end-time and that sign persists to this day.

Confirming this, Paul never called the Jewish Temple "the temple of God" after he converted to Christ. He certainly wouldn't have called a temple built in the end-time by Christ rejecting Jews (or Antichrist) "the temple of God" (2 Th. 2:3-4)!

Some believe the Christ's reference to the "abomination of desolation" in Daniel 12:11 require the Temple be rebuilt:

15 When ye therefore shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, stand in the holy place, (whoso readeth, let him understand )
16 Then let them which be in Judaea flee into the (Matt. 24:15-16 KJV)

However, notice what Christ (or the Holy Spirit) inserted: "whoso readeth, let him understand (Matt. 24:15). Why would Jesus ask readers [in the end-time] be granted understanding? The New Covenant in Christ's Blood changed the application of these terms because in the end-time the "Temple of God" and "Daily Sacrifice" would not be found in Christ rejecting Judaism.

If the "Abomination of Desolation" and "Daily Sacrifice" involved Judaism, Daniel would have understood these words clearly. He was an expert in all things Judaism.

The New Testament church has the "holy priesthood, to offer up "spiritual sacrifices" (πνευματικὰς θυσίας) acceptable to God" (1 Pet. 2:5). Its prophetic about the end-time, not since Adam.

Daniel had no problems understanding the defilement of the Temple by foreigners, he was in exile in Babylon. Antiochus and his abominations didn't cause Daniel to be confused. Its only when these same words describe a Temple of God in the end-time, during the New Covenant that the terms used didn't match up with his knowledge.

The angel explained why, end-time events unseal the words. In the NT Paul transfers everything about the old Temple to the Church.

The wicked will be cast into Gehenna of fire, not become nothing.

Chapter 7-11 connects Antiochus as the forerunner of the Antichrist, not only as a type but because John's 666 riddle shows the Antichrist will be an Assyrian Jew named Adonikam, who goes against the "God of his fathers" which is a phrase that refers to Jews (Dan. 11:37). Like Judas, he betrays Christ but is called the "son of Destruction" because he is the literal seed of Satan:

NKJ Genesis 3:15 And I will put enmity Between you and the woman, And between your seed and her Seed; He shall bruise your head, And you shall bruise His heel." (Gen. 3:15 NKJ)

He will do miracles that deceive fallen away Christendom he is "the Christ". As the "man of sin" he CONDONES all sin, claiming God is ok with it and that is why the world will follow him. He will tickle their ears, tell them what they want to hear, and do miracles as "proof" its all approved by God.

I'm beginning to suspect Israel's present war with Hezbollah and Hamas will end in total victory for Israel, the terrorists completely defeated. Even the Lebanese want to be rid of them.

This would set up the end time scenario of an Israel at peace with her neighbors, just before Gog and Magog attack. Iran will be part of that attack.

Only an apostate Church would accept the Antichrist as Christ.

Christendom includes everyone professing Christ, TARES and WHEAT: Children of the Devil who think they are Christians, and actual Christians. When the TARES reject the historic doctrines of Christianity it is a religious apostasy, a "FALLING AWAY from the truth."

36 Then Jesus sent the multitude away and went into the house. And His disciples came to Him, saying, "Explain to us the parable of the tares of the field."
37 He answered and said to them: "He who sows the good seed is the Son of Man.

Christendom is part of the "church of God". Paul never let the presence of TARES in any congregation stop him from calling local churches the "church of God." There is overlap, but the genuine church is not deceived by the false Christ, they don't accept him. Its the TARES in Christendom that do.

The context in Thessalonians identifies what the "mystery of lawlessness" or demonic "influence that causes delusion", it is the spiritual wickedness that upset the Thessalonians they were left behind---the spurious prophetic words, epistles and demonic telepathic suggestion the Day of Christ had passed (Comp. 2 Tim. 2:18):

not to be soon shaken in mind or troubled, either by spirit or by word or by letter, as if from us, as though the day of Christ had come. (2 Thess. 2:2 NKJ)

In a church pastored by John an end-time like apostasy occurred that is so like what will happen in the End Time, John likens it to "the Last Hour":

18 Little children, it is the last hour; and as you have heard that the Antichrist is coming, even now many antichrists have come, by which we know that it is the last hour.
19 They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would have continued with us; but they went out that they might be made manifest, that none of them were of us.

No. The temple is a rejection of the sacrifice of Christ. To disguise himself as "the Christ" he cannot legitimize the temple sacrifices at all.

And he can't ignore history completely, come up with a new Jewish religion. He is a false Christ. A counterfeit dollar looks and feels like a real dollar, the difference between the two can't be too great or the deception won't work.

By working miracles he gets followers. He conquers the earth, without arrows in his bow, therefore by peaceful means. He tickles ears, tells people what they want to hear, and does miracles to "prove" God is OK with the sin. That is why he is the "man OF sin", he springs from it, is awash in it, condones it.

If only the Jews are prophesied to be deceived, you made a good case. But Jesus warned His disciples not to be deceived, that many would come in His name:

4 And Jesus answered and said to them: "Take heed that no one deceives you.
5 "For many will come in My name, saying,`I am the Christ,' and will deceive many. (Matt. 24:4-5 NKJ)

A "name" is more than a label. The deceiver comes in Christ's Name, claiming to be Him, therefore the claims Christ made the Jews found objectionable can't be "retracted". Then its not Christ's name.

ANTICHRIST

Its the signs and wonders the Antichrist does "showing himself that he is God" that convinces the apostates.

4 who opposes and exalts himself above all that is called God or that is worshiped, so that he sits as God in the temple of God, showing himself that he is God. (2 Thess. 2:4 NKJ)

9 The coming of the lawless one is according to the working of Satan, with all power, signs, and lying wonders,
10 and with all unrighteous deception among those who perish, because they did not receive the love of the truth, that they might be saved. (2 Thess. 2:9-10 NKJ)

The NIV and others translate "lying wonders" as "fake, counterfeit" wonders and perhaps many of them will be. But the Greek allows a more subtle meaning that fits the context better, these "wonders lie" meaning they support the lying claim of Deity. All of Satan's power does these miracles, so its more likely they are real miracles (at least from our perspective). Satan cannot duplicate obedience to the Word of God, or he is divided against himself:

32 "Whatever I command you, be careful to observe it; you shall not add to it nor take away from it.
NKJ Deuteronomy 13:1 "If there arises among you a prophet or a dreamer of dreams, and he gives you a sign or a wonder,
2 "and the sign or the wonder comes to pass, of which he spoke to you, saying,`Let us go after other gods'-- which you have not known--`and let us serve them,'
3 "you shall not listen to the words of that prophet or that dreamer of dreams, for the LORD your God is testing you to know whether you love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul.

God will lift the restraint on Satan's power, in effect "sending a deluding influence" that will deceive the earth the Antichrist is Christ:

6 And now you know what is restraining, that he may be revealed in his own time.
7 For the mystery of lawlessness is already at work; only He who now restrains will do so until He is taken out of the way.
8 And then the lawless one will be revealed, whom the Lord will consume with the breath of His mouth and destroy with the brightness of His coming.

Healings (which non-Christian religions report they do) and other miracles, are well within Satan's power.

Satan duplicated the miracle of changing a rod into a serpent, and it wasn't an illusion because they were eaten by Aaron's rod:

10 So Moses and Aaron went in to Pharaoh, and they did so, just as the LORD commanded. And Aaron cast down his rod before Pharaoh and before his servants, and it became a serpent.
11 But Pharaoh also called the wise men and the sorcerers; so the magicians of Egypt, they also did in like manner with their enchantments.

Yes. They are Christ's army, believing born again Jews from the twelve tribes. Through them and God's Two Witnesses the Holy Spirit will be poured out on the church. They will prophesy and accomplish what Christendom failed to do---turn the world on fire for Christ, especially Israel.

Its prophetic about the end-time, not since Adam.

Daniel had no problems understanding the defilement of the Temple by foreigners, he was in exile in Babylon. Antiochus and his abominations didn't cause Daniel to be confused. Its only when these same words describe a Temple of God in the end-time, during the New Covenant that the terms used didn't match up with his knowledge.

The angel explained why, end-time events unseal the words. In the NT Paul transfers everything about the old Temple to the Church.

No he expanded Christs' body to include gentiles. The church is one body of members from beginning to end regardless of race.

I was indoctrinated with the belief that God permits unending torment but when other scripture is examined, torment is experienced as the sins of the unrepentant are exposed by the light of Christ.
