Works for Salvation: Humility

Jesus said that without the works of humility, one cannot enter into the kingdom of Heaven.

Matthew 18
[1] At the same time came the disciples unto Jesus, saying, Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?
[2] And Jesus called a little child unto him, and set him in the midst of them,
[3] And said, Verily I say unto you, Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven.
[4] Whosoever therefore shall humble himself as this little child, the same is greatest in the kingdom of heaven.

I agree with the above.
We'd have to establish what it means to be as a child.
Do you have some input?

Also, why are you calling it a work?
The works Paul spoke of had to do with the works of the Law which are found in the OT.
I would prefer to call these good deeds, only because some might misunderstand.

I think that we can infer much by meditating on the scenario of Jesus allowing the children to come to Him.

Yes, I agree, but many teach that any and all works don't save, but that's not the meaning of the Scripture.

Jesus calls us to action to be saved.

👋 hi, So what is the argument?

Jesus calls us to action to be saved.
I'd say that works without faith are useless.
Just like James said that faith without works is useless.
One needs the other.

Quite frankly, I don't know how anybody could make it to heaven.
Thank God for the atonement.
I'm liking the Satisfaction Theory more and more.

Humbling oneself before the lord is necessary to please Him. It is a work yoked with Him needed to enter fellowship.

Because it is Christ that works in us to both reveal His will and empower us we must do it without murmuring.

The key is both working as one

Philippians 2:13-14 For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure. Do all things without murmurings and disputings:

Anything done in faith is not works.Take Jesus's example before he set out to do anything he would take a moment of silence and look up to the Father and pray his will would be done and then he would set off to what it was he was going to do he did this with his every action. He would always connect to the father. You can do the same just ask yourself are you connected or unconnected with Jesus in you actions today? It not as simple as I have stated obviously we are not Jesus but the goal is to try.

We have the same opportunity as Jesus the Son of man .

Faith is a work. It cannot be separated from a living hope

Anything that's not of a work of faith "Let there be" alone . . . . . provides no testimony of what was hoped for.

Really can you raise the dead? Can you raise yourself from the grave?Did you exist as the word before all things were created as in Johns gospel.Jesus is not like us.We hope to be like him when raised on the last day nothing impure can enter into heaven. Its why he dies for our sins Satan condemned humanity to hell out of jealousy Jesus offers a life saver offering to raise you from the grave but many are saying today no thanks I am fine I will keep my sins and make it into heaven. It was Jesus mission when he took on flesh and it was a secret mission even the demons had no idea why he was here they would ask if he had come to torment them. No one is heaven knew except for the father who's remedy it was. If satan knew why Jesus came he would of done all he could to stop the Crucifixion. Call it what ever you want faith must come before all else or everything you ever do or ever will do is completely in vain.It all means nothing with out faith you are hell bound.

How could faith be a work when Paul specifically said it's not?

IF IT IS BY FAITH, THEN IT CANNOT BE BY WORK.

I am learning this. I try and get to my center then humbly approach the Lord with my prayer/action/request etc.

Hey All,
Please take a closer look at verses 3-4.

[3] And said, Verily I say unto you, Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven.
[4] Whosoever therefore shall humble himself as this little child, the same is greatest in the kingdom of heaven.

Conversion (salvation) comes first. Then "and become as little children." So humility is not a work to receive salvation. It is a result of salvation. There are no works one can do to earn salvation. Salvation is the gift of God.

Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Salvation is by the grace of God, through the gift of faith, that God supplies, in His Son Jesus. Nobody can brag that they earned their salvation.

Ephesians 2:8-9 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:
Not of works, lest any man should boast.

Now what does it mean to become as little children? Think about the traits of little children.
1. They are curious.
2. They are growing.
3. They rely on mom and dad for everything.
4. They are learning.

Curiousity:
Acts 17:11 These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so.

Growth:
2 Peter 3:18 But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever. Amen.

Reliance:
1 Peter 5:6-7 Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time:
Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.

Learning:
Matthew 11:29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.

If we, as believers, humble ourselves by putting God first in our lives, then God will exalt us in heaven.
EXALT', egzolt'. Low L. exalto ex and altus, high.
To raise high to elevate.

Keep walking everybody.
May God bless,
Taz

👋 hi, So what is the argument?
Faith & works or faith alone?

Grace is required by both

Grace requires works to be fruitful!

Jn 15:1-5 apart from Christ and His grace no fruit but with Christ and His grace we can bear much fruit!

Thanks

Then we need union with God and His grace thru Christ the mediator of the covenant? Yes?

Prayer is works and penance
Prayer fasting alm constitutes penance and are works
Thanks

In the holy name of Jesus yes many have raised the dead
We are not opposing faith only the false doctrine of “faith alone”!
Thanks

Really?
1 Peter 5:5
Likewise, ye younger, submit yourselves unto the elder. Yea, all of you be subject one to another, and be clothed with humility: for God resisteth the proud, and giveth graceto the humble.

Luke 18:14
I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other: for every one that exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted.
