would we also labor in heaven?

Is heaven a place of joy, where you have fun, go skiing, play music, swim, eat yummy dishes, ride in great cars, use great computers, play soccer etc????

I started a discusion on it a million years ago. I was surprised when one said: we are going to rule over the angels. Another person was like: you are going to work - bow down forever before God, do this and do that etc - all is work or something.

If we are not going to rest from all our struggles here on earth...then it is certain labor, or to be more polite, work continues.

I do not think we have bible verses that clearly states what we are gonna do there. I remember few verses, one of which is: reign with Christ.

Do you consider the Great Multitude of Rev 7:9 to be of the Church?

Rev 7:9 After this I beheld, and, lo, a great multitude, which no man could number, of all nations, and kindreds, and people, and tongues, stood before the throne, and before the Lamb, clothed with white robes, and palms in their hands;

Rev 7:14 And I said unto him, Sir, thou knowest. And he said to me, These are they which came out of great tribulation, and have washed their robes, and made them white in the blood of the Lamb.
Of course I don't see where they repented and got baptized.

Rev 7:15 Therefore are they before the throne of God, and serve him day and night in his temple: and he that sitteth on the throne shall dwell among them.

“Come to me, all of you who are ·tired [weary] and ·have heavy loads [overburdened; T heavy-laden] and I will give you rest. 29 ·Accept my teachings [L Take my yoke upon you] and learn from me, because I am gentle and humble in ·spirit [heart], and you will find rest for your ·lives [souls; Jer. 6:16]. 30 ·The burden that I ask you to accept [L …because my yoke] is easy; ·the load I give you to carry [L and my burden] is light.” Matthew 11:28-30 EXB

I think we have to go back to the garden to get more insight about this.

Adam's task in the garden was to "work it and take care of it" (Genesis 2:15 NIV). While there's no reason to think this was not exactly literal, it was a veiled analogy of Adam's real task to cultivate the soil of his heart and rule over it and bring forth it's righteous fruit and eat of it and live. But only the good fruit. He was to only eat of the tree of life that grew there, not eat of the forbidden tree that grew there--the tree that if he did eat of it, he would surely die.

When he fell by eating of the forbidden fruit that grew in the garden of his heart he had charge of (think spiritually, folks) his assigned duty to cultivate and nurture the fruits of righteousness became a burdensome and frustrated work that produced thorns and thistles instead. When we are restored to God in the kingdom, bearing the fruits of righteousness will be the light and easy assignment of man. How that plays out literally I haven't a clue.

I dunno. Protestant Christianity, especially the Reformed Branches, elevated work from something you have to do to something that was God-sent, a vocation. There's a whole book on this...Protestantism and The Spirit of Capitalism, by (19th century, German) sociologist Max Weber. Something about how Puritans and other Calvinists helped produce American-style capitalism, and how American values are sort of watered down versions of Calvinist virtues, in secular form.

Anyway...I guess what I'm saying is...The Bible seems to say that Jesus gives us rest, but also that there will be work (presumably a labor of love) for those in Heaven to do. At the same time...leave it to the Calvinists and those inspired by them to emphasize the work part of Heaven, lol.

I guess...if you think of it like CS Lewis wrote about Heaven, where everything on earth is but a dim reflection of what Heaven will be like, where everything is Real in a way we can't imagine...we'll be Real people--glorified bodies, all that--doing Real work...the sort of work that truly glorifies God and brings joy to the worker.

And...that is my 2 cents, lol. :)

That sounds wonderful.

No not much on it. Maybe he wants it to be a surprise for the most part.

As to laboring, I'd say so but as mentioned, no sore backs and probably work we will like so much, it won't be like work.

I would expect to be working in heaven. Why not? I look forward to working then. The yoke will be light. No office politics, no short checks, no deception in the ranks...no Saturdays!

What could be better than that?!

You can scratch that list out entirely (which is earthly). While there is (and will be) perfection of every sort in Heaven, the saints will not be idle, and work will not be drudgery. But there will be work in eternity, not necessarily in Heaven, but in the universe. After all, the twelve apostles will be judges over the twelve tribes of Israel, David will be prince over Israel, and Christ will rule this universe as the Kingdom of God (1 Cor 15:25-28).

Aside from eating yummy dishes, I don't see why any of those things would be banned. None of them are a sin.

I do wonder if a fossil fueled car would be allowed.

Not banned. Irrelevant. And since there are no fossils in Heaven, why talk about fossil fuels and cars? Now it becomes irreverent.

Evidently we disagree where heaven will be. But whatever the case, I'm talking about the new Jerusalem if that clears up any misunderstanding, you know here on earth where we now get most of our power from fossil fuel.

You can scratch that list out entirely (which is earthly).

I guess that sounded like you thought it would be banned.

I don't know what you mean by irrelevant. It was relevant to what we were talking about.

LOL, I missed that....irreverent?? are you kidding me?

Wherever Heaven may be and whether it has fossil fuel or not...a simple discussion on such is hardly irreverent. At least I don't see what could have brought that on.

Sounds to me like you want to implement nasty into the conversation and you are clutching at straws to make that happen. Was the fact we disagreed up there a bit on what would be allowed in Heaven what brought that on or was it the way I disagreed? Either way, I apologize if I hurt your feelings...I'm just me sometimes and I know that can tend to rub people the wrong way. And sometimes that works both ways.

Thing is, none of those things that Classic mentioned are sins and I honestly don't get why some seem so opposed to them being allowed in Heaven. Actually some of that stuff is, or can be good wholesome entertainment. If you think that's bad, I was kind of looking forward to doing some fishing there too. :)

I think some of you are going to find heaven isn't going to be nearly as drab as you might think.

I don't know if they will or will not be in heaven. its not said. cant be dogmatic on something that isn't said.

Fossil fuels in heaven? You guys really think that we'll need transportation to get around in heaven? lol. Spirit being travel doesn't need transpo. Even with the mention of chariots of fire and so forth in scripture, it seems to me that the difference between traveling by Spirit (Translation/transrelocation) and traveling by chariots of fire is just one of style and not necessity.
