where in Scripture is there a single person described as 'The antichrist"
The little books of John are the only place we are given a description of antichrist .

1 John 2:18 Little children, it is the last time: and as ye have heard that antichrist shall come, even now are there many antichrists; whereby we know that it is the last time. 19 They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would no doubt have continued with us: but they went out, that they might be made manifest that they were not all of us.

2 Thessalonians 2:3 Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition; 4 Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, showing himself that he is God. 5 Remember ye not, that, when I was yet with you, I told you these things? 6 And now ye know what withholdeth that he might be revealed in his time. 7 For the mystery of iniquity doth already work: only he who now letteth will let, until he be taken out of the way. 8 And then shall that Wicked be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming: 9 Even him, whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders, 10 And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved. 11 And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie: 12 That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness.

Rev 17:9 And here is the mind which hath wisdom. The seven heads are seven mountains, on which the woman sitteth. 10 And there are seven kings: five are fallen, and one is, and the other is not yet come; and when he cometh, he must continue a short space. 11 And the beast that was, and is not, even he is the eighth, and is of the seven, and goeth into perdition. 12 And the ten horns which thou sawest are ten kings, which have received no kingdom as yet; but receive power as kings one hour with the beast. 13 These have one mind, and shall give their power and strength unto the beast.

14 These shall make war with the Lamb, and the Lamb shall overcome them: for he is Lord of lords, and King of kings: and they that are with him are called, and chosen, and faithful. 15 And he saith unto me, The waters which thou sawest, where the whore sitteth, are peoples, and multitudes, and nations, and tongues. 16 And the ten horns which thou sawest upon the beast, these shall hate the whore, and shall make her desolate and naked, and shall eat her flesh, and burn her with fire. 17 For God hath put in their hearts to fulfil his will, and to agree, and give their kingdom unto the beast, until the words of God shall be fulfilled. 18 And the woman which thou sawest is that great city, which reigneth over the kings of the earth.

When one has wisdom given by Gods Holy Spirit then one will know truth as the answer is within the scriptures and not mans thoughts.

Antichrist is the spirit of lies that decieves the world. The Father of all Lies.

There is the Spirit of Truth and the Spirit of Lies.

People follow one or the other. Believe in lies and live in the lie or believe in the truth and live in the truth.

The Kingdom of God is open for all who are sick of lies and want truth.

16 He causes all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and slave, to receive a mark on their right hand or on their foreheads, 17 and that no one may buy or sell except one who has the mark or the name of the beast, or the number of his name.

18 Here is wisdom. Let him who has understanding calculate the number of the beast, for it is the number of a man: His number is 666. Revelation 13:16-18

Wha name would you prefer to give him?

Paul called him:

  • The lawless one
  • The man of sin
  • The son of perdition

John called him:

  • The Antichrist
  • The beast

Daniel called him:

  • The prince who is to come.
  • The northern king.

Then the king shall do according to his own will: he shall exalt and magnify himself above every god, shall speak blasphemies against the God of gods, and shall prosper till the wrath has been accomplished; for what has been determined shall be done.
Daniel 11:36

Tell us what name you prefer to give him?

Antichrist is described in John 1-2-3 .

Yes ma'am.

and every spirit that does not confess that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is not of God. And this is the spirit of the Antichrist, which you have heard was coming, and is now already in the world. 1 John 4:3

and again

Little children, it is the last hour; and as you have heard that the Antichrist is coming, even now many antichrists have come, by which we know that it is the last hour. 1 John 2:18

Who is the son of perdition?
Jesus said John 6:70, " Jesus answered them, Have I not chosen you twelve, and one of you a devil." In the original manuscript the article a before devil is not there, also the word devil is diabolos. In the original manuscript this is the real person Satan, not a diamonion, which means demon.
Jesus said in John 17:12, " While I was with them in the world, I kept them in thy name, those that thou gavest me I have kept and none of them is lost but the son of perdition; that the scripture might be fulfilled.
2 Thessalonians 2:3, "Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition."

In John 6:71 we are told who the son of perdition is: "He spake of Judas Iscariot the son of Simon; for he it was that should betray him, being one of the twelve."
In Acts 1:25 we find a fact stated about Judas Iscariot: "That he might take part of this ministry and apostleship from which Judas by transgression fell, that he might go to his own place." The greek word own place is "idios" which means what is one's own place as opposed to belonging to another.

For the last 30 years i have been wondering why people are so obsessed wiht some antichrist .. Looking for it every where.. buying books ..

1 John 4:3
And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world.

The spirit of antichrist that should come and is already in the world that was said 2000 years ago. The antichrist is a spirit that decieves the whole world.

Antichrist means against Christ, it is a spirit in the world that is against Christ and does anything it can to derail by false beliefs, religions, and any distraction possible. The spirit of the world.

If Judas went to his own place, then Paul must be referring to another, who is to come in the last days.

Now, brethren, concerning the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our gathering together to Him, we ask you, 2 not to be soon shaken in mind or troubled, either by spirit or by word or by letter, as if from us, as though the day of Christ had come. 3 Let no one deceive you by any means; for that Day will not come unless the falling away comes first, and the man of sin is revealed, the son of perdition, 4 who opposes and exalts himself above all that is called God or that is worshiped, so that he sits as God in the temple of God, showing himself that he is God.

5 Do you not remember that when I was still with you I told you these things? 6 And now you know what is restraining, that he may be revealed in his own time. 7 For the mystery of lawlessness is already at work; only He who now restrains will do so until He is taken out of the way. 8 And then the lawless one will be revealed, whom the Lord will consume with the breath of His mouth and destroy with the brightness of His coming. 2 Thessalonians 2:1-8

hello JLB, dirtfarmer here

2 Thessalonians 2:3 is the revealing of the man of sin = the son of perdition = Judas Iscariot. John 17:12 " None of them is lost but the son of perdition."
2 Thessalonians 2:7, " He who now restrains" = the body of Christ( the Church), whose life is the Spirit. Will do so until he is taken out= the rapture of the Church and the Spirit that indwells the Church.
The brightness of his coming is the battle of Armageddon.

The son of perdition which Paul was speaking of is in the midst of a body of believers and they have exalted this man to kingship and have made him the most powerful man in the world.

Just as judas was in the midst of a body of believers.
And just as judas had a reaionship with the pharisees(Antichrists)so does this man.He lifts them,up even.He seems to be led by those who call themselves Christians. You could say they have a voice in his ear.I know this from my observations of the man.

Maybe after he sends his military into Israel many will figure him out.

Thank you TLSITD for your very acceptable reply.
Beware of FALSE PROPHETS! Tessa. Study these Scriptures. (Matt. 7:14-16; 1 Kings 13:11-24; Matt. 7:15; Gal. 1:8; 1 Tim. 4:1; Matt. 24:11; Matt. 24:24; Luke 6:26; John 10:12; Matt. 24:4,5,11,24,25; . many shall come saying Jesus is the Christ, but will deceive many, for they never knew Christ and Christ never knew them. (Matt. 7:21-23) (1 Cor. 13:2) (Acts 4:1-7)...Trust The Lord. I do not worry about when the Lord will come, thou I watch for Him, but he will not come till the one new man is complete (Eph. 2:14-16 His Body)

Thank you for your advice Douglas
I was trying to ascertain how the OP was getting the message.
I found the answer acceptable, not necessarily the message, because it told me it was the interpretation of the OP's study of scripture. But I study it all afterwards praying for guidance from the Holy Spirit.
Thank you for your caring post which I appreciate greatly.
God Bless

The restrainer is not the Holy Spirit but the archangel Michael and all the other holy angels with him, who will be taken out of the way (up into heaven) for the duration of the approximately 3 1/2 year long Tribulation while God allows Satan and his demons to persecute Christians and to carry out their evil desires and plans within the limits of God's allowance and according to His eternal plan. Obviously, God Himself will be no less powerful or in control of everything that does or doesn't happen during this time than He has ever been; He doesn't need the holy angels to restrain the demons, He just chooses to use them. The angels (the armies of heaven, Revelation 19:14 ESV) will return with Christ and the spirits of the saints who have died on the last day. (1 Thessalonians 4:14 ESV)

"At that time shall arise Michael, the great prince who has charge of your people. And there shall be a trouble , such as never has been since there was a nation till that time. But at that time your people shall be delivered, everyone whose name shall be found written in the book." (Daniel12:1 ESV)

"When the Son of Man comes in His glory, and all the angels with Him, then He will sit on His glorious throne." (Matthew 25:31 ESV)

Then the LORD my God will come, and all the holy ones with Him. (Zechariah 14:5 ESV)

The holy angels will be pouring out God's judgments from heaven during the Tribulation, but they will not be restraining any of the demons on earth during this time, as they presently do. God has set limits on what the demons will be able to do during that time. Three holy angels will also be dispatched from heaven to deliver messages during the Tribulation (Revelation chapter 14).

The confusion about whether the 'beast' refers to a person or to a government is due to the fact that both the antichrist and his government are described in the same words. But the beast (aka the first beast, the 8th king, and the man of sin) is a man, as is the false prophet.

...And I saw the woman sitting on a scarlet beast that was full of blasphemous names, and it had seven heads and ten horns...the seven heads are seven mountains on which the woman is seated; they are also seven kings, five of whom have fallen, one is, the other has not yet come, and when he does come he must remain only a little while. As for the beast that was and is not, it is an eighth (king) but belongs to the seven (kings) and goes to destruction. And the ten horns that you saw are ten kings who have not yet received royal power, but they are to receive authority as kings for one hour, together with the beast (the eighth king, the antichrist). These are of one mind and hand over their power and authority to the beast (the antichrist)." (Revelation 17:3, 9-13 ESV)

And at the latter end of their kingdom, when the transgressors have reached their limit, a king of bold face, one who understands riddles, shall arise. His power shall be great---but not by his own power (by Satan's); and he shall cause fearful destruction and shall succeed in what he does and destroy mighty men and the people who are the saints. By his cunning he shall make deceit prosper under his hand, and in his own mind he shall become great (like the Most High). Without warning he shall even rise up against the Prince of princes, and he shall be broken---but by no human hand (by the breath of the Lord, the sword of the word of His mouth, when He returns). (Daniel 8:23-25 ESV)

So sometimes the scriptures are referring to the government of the antichrist, which is an extension of the antichrist who rules it, and other times they are referring to the person of the antichrist. In the case of the mortally wounded head of the beast, it is referring to the mortally wounded king of the one world government, who "once was" (lived), "now is not" (is dead), and "yet will come" (will return from the dead, so to speak). Of course, 'now is not' and 'yet will come' was true in John's time, but the antichrist is alive now, and will soon come into power, when the one world government is formed. (Who this person will resemble, that people will marvel to see him, because he "once was", I do not know. Perhaps Solomon.) The false prophet will command an image of this man to be made for the world to worship---like the image of Nebuchadnezzar that the peoples of the earth were commanded to worship on pain of death in Daniel's time.

The deadly wound that the antichrist suffers will probably be a fatal wound from some kind of assassination attempt (maybe similar to what killed JFK), from which he will 'miraculously' recover---perhaps on live t.v. for all the world to see during his inauguration or shortly thereafter.

One of the lying signs and wonders (demonic magic tricks) that the false prophet will perform is calling fire down from heaven. (Revelation 13:13 ESV)
Elijah called the fire of God down from heaven (1 Kings 18:36-39 ESV), so that kind of miracle will certainly be significant to the Jews, besides being amazing to everyone else.

Malachi says, "Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the great and awesome day of the LORD comes." (Malachi 4:5 ESV)

John the Baptist fulfilled this scripture, but the Jews did not recognize him as the Elijah who was to come, just as they did not recognize the Messiah who came after him. They're still waiting for Elijah--it's a part of their Passover seder ritual. John the Baptist never performed a miraculous sign, but this false prophet will perform the same sign that Elijah performed. The false prophet will be like Elijah to the Jews, as John the Baptist was not; and the antichrist will be the Messiah to them that Jesus was not---everything they want in a king: Probably handsome, charming (a flatterer), intelligent, very powerful, a king of 'peace', who will enrich them and make Jerusalem prosperous as it was in the days of Solomon--every man under his own vine and fig tree. I think it's very possible that he will rebuild the temple in Jerusalem, as the Jews are expecting their Messiah to do this. (But this is not/will not be the 'holy place' or the 'temple of God' that Matthew 24:15 and 2 Thessalonians 2:4 speak of, as I explained previously.)

Because God will not be delivering His people from death and persecution, it will lend that much more support to the claim that the antichrist really is God---because God is not preventing him from killing Christians, who claim to be worshiping the one true God. (Of course, He didn't prevent Jesus from being killed either, or many saints before us who were stoned, burned alive, sawed in two, fed to the lions, beheaded, etc.) But you can imagine the taunts of the enemy---like they mocked Jesus on the cross (Matthew 27:39-43).

The strong delusion (believing that the antichrist is God) will not affect Christians. God is going to send a strong delusion on those who have rejected the gospel, so that they will believe the lie that the antichrist is God. These are the same people upon whom the day of the Lord's return will come like a thief, people who are in darkness (spiritually dead), who will be saying that there is "Peace and safety", oblivious to or in denial of the truth of the time in which they are living, which Christians of course will not be. Even apostate Christians (rebellious Christians in whom the Holy Spirit still lives) will know what time they are in when the events of the Tribulation begin to take place, and they will know that the antichrist is not God and what the eternal consequences of taking his mark and worshiping his image are.

Of course, there are many, many professing Christians among true Christians who are not actually born-again who will be affected by the delusion just like the rest of the unsaved will be, and this will predictably have a persuasive effect on true Christians, when they see loved ones and fellow church members and pastors taking the mark and probably encouraging them to do the same---like Eve (who was deceived) offering the forbidden fruit to her husband (who was not deceived).

"If anyone worships the beast and receives a mark on his forehead or on his hand, he also will drink the wine of God's wrath, poured full strength into the cup of His anger, and he will be tormented with fire and sulfur in the presence of the holy angels and in the presence of the Lamb. And the smoke of their torment goes up forever and ever...
Here is a call for the endurance of the saints, those who keep the commandments of God and their faith in Jesus.

(Revelation 14:9-12 ESV)

The reason true Christians will take the mark of the beast will not be because they actually believe that the antichrist is God, but because they don't want to suffer or be killed for not taking it, and they want to keep their families, homes, etc.

The coming of the lawless one is by the activity of Satan with all power and false signs and wonders, and with all wicked deception for those who are perishing, because they refused to love the truth and so be saved. Therefore God sends them (unsaved people) a strong delusion, so that they may believe what is false, in order that all may be condemned who did not believe the truth (the gospel) but had pleasure in unrighteousness. (2 Thessalonians 2:9-12 ESV)

...and all who dwell on earth will worship it (the beast), everyone whose name has not been written before the foundation of the world in the book of life of the Lamb that was slain. (Revelation 13:8 ESV) These are the non-elect; goats.

People who have been taught the pre-trib rapture doctrine believe Jesus coming is imminent and therefore will embrace the next “christ” who comes.

Not realizing Jesus destroys this antichrist by the brightness of His coming on the Day He comes to gather His people at the resurrection and rapture.

The 3 major things that occur at His coming:

  1. The Resurrection of the dead in Christ.
  2. The Rapture.
  3. The destruction of the antichrist.

Once each person comes to understand these three major truths that occur at His coming, there will be no more confusion about this doctrine.
