Who is the son of perdition?
Jesus said John 6:70, " Jesus answered them, Have I not chosen you twelve, and one of you a devil." In the original manuscript the article a before devil is not there, also the word devil is diabolos. In the original manuscript this is the real person Satan, not a diamonion, which means demon.
Jesus said in John 17:12, " While I was with them in the world, I kept them in thy name, those that thou gavest me I have kept and none of them is lost but the son of perdition; that the scripture might be fulfilled.
2 Thessalonians 2:3, "Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition."
In John 6:71 we are told who the son of perdition is: "He spake of Judas Iscariot the son of Simon; for he it was that should betray him, being one of the twelve."
In Acts 1:25 we find a fact stated about Judas Iscariot: "That he might take part of this ministry and apostleship from which Judas by transgression fell, that he might go to his own place." The greek word own place is "idios" which means what is one's own place as opposed to belonging to another.
If Judas went to his own place, then Paul must be referring to another, who is to come in the last days.
Now, brethren, concerning the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our gathering together to Him, we ask you, 2 not to be soon shaken in mind or troubled, either by spirit or by word or by letter, as if from us, as though the day of Christ had come. 3 Let no one deceive you by any means; for that Day will not come unless the falling away comes first, and the man of sin is revealed, the son of perdition, 4 who opposes and exalts himself above all that is called God or that is worshiped, so that he sits as God in the temple of God, showing himself that he is God.
5 Do you not remember that when I was still with you I told you these things? 6 And now you know what is restraining, that he may be revealed in his own time. 7 For the mystery of lawlessness is already at work; only He who now restrains will do so until He is taken out of the way. 8 And then the lawless one will be revealed, whom the Lord will consume with the breath of His mouth and destroy with the brightness of His coming. 2 Thessalonians 2:1-8

For the last 30 years i have been wondering why people are so obsessed wiht some antichrist .. Looking for it every where.. buying books ..
hello JLB, dirtfarmer here
2 Thessalonians 2:3 is the revealing of the man of sin = the son of perdition = Judas Iscariot. John 17:12 " None of them is lost but the son of perdition."
2 Thessalonians 2:7, " He who now restrains" = the body of Christ( the Church), whose life is the Spirit. Will do so until he is taken out= the rapture of the Church and the Spirit that indwells the Church.
The brightness of his coming is the battle of Armageddon.
Beware of FALSE PROPHETS! Tessa. Study these Scriptures. (Matt. 7:14-16; 1 Kings 13:11-24; Matt. 7:15; Gal. 1:8; 1 Tim. 4:1; Matt. 24:11; Matt. 24:24; Luke 6:26; John 10:12; Matt. 24:4,5,11,24,25; . many shall come saying Jesus is the Christ, but will deceive many, for they never knew Christ and Christ never knew them. (Matt. 7:21-23) (1 Cor. 13:2) (Acts 4:1-7)...Trust The Lord. I do not worry about when the Lord will come, thou I watch for Him, but he will not come till the one new man is complete (Eph. 2:14-16 His Body)Thank you TLSITD for your very acceptable reply.

The strong delusion (believing that the antichrist is God) will not affect Christians. God is going to send a strong delusion on those who have rejected the gospel, so that they will believe the lie that the antichrist is God. These are the same people upon whom the day of the Lord's return will come like a thief, people who are in darkness (spiritually dead), who will be saying that there is "Peace and safety", oblivious to or in denial of the truth of the time in which they are living, which Christians of course will not be. Even apostate Christians (rebellious Christians in whom the Holy Spirit still lives) will know what time they are in when the events of the Tribulation begin to take place, and they will know that the antichrist is not God and what the eternal consequences of taking his mark and worshiping his image are.
Of course, there are many, many professing Christians among true Christians who are not actually born-again who will be affected by the delusion just like the rest of the unsaved will be, and this will predictably have a persuasive effect on true Christians, when they see loved ones and fellow church members and pastors taking the mark and probably encouraging them to do the same---like Eve (who was deceived) offering the forbidden fruit to her husband (who was not deceived).
"If anyone worships the beast and receives a mark on his forehead or on his hand, he also will drink the wine of God's wrath, poured full strength into the cup of His anger, and he will be tormented with fire and sulfur in the presence of the holy angels and in the presence of the Lamb. And the smoke of their torment goes up forever and ever...
Here is a call for the endurance of the saints, those who keep the commandments of God and their faith in Jesus.
(Revelation 14:9-12 ESV)
The reason true Christians will take the mark of the beast will not be because they actually believe that the antichrist is God, but because they don't want to suffer or be killed for not taking it, and they want to keep their families, homes, etc.
The coming of the lawless one is by the activity of Satan with all power and false signs and wonders, and with all wicked deception for those who are perishing, because they refused to love the truth and so be saved. Therefore God sends them (unsaved people) a strong delusion, so that they may believe what is false, in order that all may be condemned who did not believe the truth (the gospel) but had pleasure in unrighteousness. (2 Thessalonians 2:9-12 ESV)
...and all who dwell on earth will worship it (the beast), everyone whose name has not been written before the foundation of the world in the book of life of the Lamb that was slain. (Revelation 13:8 ESV) These are the non-elect; goats.
