This is so true.

But the ones on the rock are those who, when they hear, receive the word with joy; and these have no root, who believe for a while and in time of temptation fall away. Luke 8:13

Since the word fall away in the Greek, has “desert“, as one of its meanings, I use the analogy of being in the army. Since this passage is about deserting while under persecution it‘s meaning is closely related to someone deserting the army while under fire from the enemy to be able to live a little longer.

Because they desert the army, does that mean they were never in the army? Of course not. No one who is honest could possibly come to such a conclusion.

The person who falls away, deserts Christ, to save their life from being martyred is the same, since these people were being persecuted BECAUSE they were Christians, they “fell away” from Chris; they deserted Christ.

I believe the reason a person would claim, these who believed for a while were never saved, is because they just don’t understand the narrative or what “fall away“ means.

If I gave you a flashlight that shines forever does forever mean you can't lose it?
Of course not, but that seems to be the only way people in the church can understand 'forever'.
As I've shown, Hebrews explains that 'forever' means your salvation does not have to be renewed over and over again not that you can't lose it no matter what.

Although Anton Chigurh is an absolute creep, I admired him because he was steadfast and unmovable in his task. Christians need to be like that with the truth, but we're not. We need to be innocent like Jethro Bodine, but shrewd and unmovable like our buddy Anton in my avatar.

The only improvement I would make on this post is to replace "word of God" and "knowledge" with "grace".

The initial talents were given by the Master, not earned by the servants. Knowledge we can achieve by ourselves through studying the word of God, but in the end it is God's grace and our cooperation with God's grace that will enable us to "bear much fruit" (John 5:15) and this in turn will earn us even more grace. If people fail to make use of the graces that God gives them, then God will give them no more graces (John 5:6).

John 15:5-6 — "I am the vine: you the branches. He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same beareth much fruit: for without me you can do nothing. If any one abide not in me, he shall be cast forth as a branch and shall wither: and they shall gather him up and cast him into the fire: and he burneth."

So .....if one has the Spirit , That is Proof that we are Abiding in Him? I’ll buy that.So the question now becomes — who has this Spirit? The Bible says Anybody that can say “Jesus is Lord” has The Holy Spirit Indwelling them.
If you have that Spirit in you , it is only because the Holy Spirit “ opened your heart” to hearing and receiving Paul’s Gospel Of Grace .You were Blessed and Received a GIFT from God, and we all know that “ God's Gifts are IRREVOCABLE”. Right ? Once an Unregenerate , Lost man put his Trust in 1Cor15:1-4, he is put into the “ Body Of Christ” where he is Saved.....Secure..... and UNTOUCHABLE ......Those out there that are New to the Faith? RUN— don't walk From Anybody that tells you otherwise. Make it your Life’s Goal to actually Believe what Blind, Brain-Dead Hypocrites sing most Sunday’s —- it’s really true— “Nothing But The Blood Of Jesus” for your Salvation. Understand that Truth....LIVE OUT that Truth . All of the things Modern-Day Judaizers Tell you that you MUST do beyond that is Adding to the Gospel. Let me put your advice into a recipe that is a bit easier to follow:
  1. Open your Bible and go to Romans 10:9.
  2. Mark that verse with a yellow marker.
  3. Now rip all the other pages out of your Bible, they are superfluous.
  4. Add a footnote that says: "Whoever brings back any of the pages I just ripped out is a Judaizing, blind, brain-dead hypocrite, fallen from grace".
  5. Now relax, you're salvation is done!
Tip: If you share this recipe with 100 other people your cake.. I mean salvation will taste even better!

I wonder what he Holy Spirit will think of this recipe?

Not the way you say they are irrevocable.
They are irrevocable the way Paul says they are irrevocable in Romans 11.

This is why you have to be an Anton Chigurh when you undertake the task of showing people what the plain words of the Bible actually say, not what popular theologians have told us they mean. You'll be shamed and abused, but you have to have a forehead of flint and just keep saying what the Bible actually says and not be intimidated by people who ignore context and make the Bible not really mean what it says.

7 "...the people of Israel are not willing to listen to you because they are not willing to listen to me, for all the Israelites are hardened and obstinate. 8But I will make you as unyielding and hardened as they are. 9I will make your forehead like the hardest stone, harder than flint. It's confusing to you because you are only capable of understanding eternal salvation as not being able to lose it no matter what and can't comprehend how it could possibly mean salvation does not have to be renewed over and over again.

Are you going to ignore the rest of the Bible where it talks about the other proofs that you must have to show you have the Holy Spirit in you in salvation?

The Gospel of Jesus Christ is what Paul was sent to preach.

If it doesn’t contain the word repent, it’s not the Gospel.

Repent means “turn to God”.

If we are called to turn to God then as you can see we are called to turn away from Satan, as our lord.

The way we obey the Gospel command “repent” is to confess Jesus as Lord.


that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
Romans 10:9-10

Paul’s Gospel ( 1cor15:1-4 ........THIS is the ONE and ONLY Gospel whereby a Man is Saved.Some people take any pleasant sounding verse and say that it is the “ gospel”......the ACTUAL Gospel,is very Specific ) .....The Gospel That Paul preached was given to him by Jesus, personally.....it had been kept Secret .....one of the many Mysteries that God revealed only after Jesus went back to Heaven
Jesus was under Law and preached the Law......The Gospel Before The Cross was one of what
“We” must do....Repent , get Baptized , etc...... The Good News AFTER the Cross, now that we are not under Law anymore is NOT about what WE do for God ......just the Opposite!
The “ Good News” is no longer what we do for God—— It is what God has done for US! What did He do? He took OUR sins and put them on the Cross and them took the Perfection of Jesus and put it on our Heavenly Account .....Jesus got my Sins and I got His Righteousness.....
Simply because I took God at His Word......this is what Amazing Grace looks like.....it is ALL based on God’s Love and Mercy for Anybody that will do as Abraham did.....Abraham Believed God and “ it was Counted onto him as Righteousness”...... Rest in the Gospel Plus Nothing to get Saved—- Believe That “ Jesus died for your Sins and rose from the Grave” and you are “ good to go”......Your Faith in Jesus Saved you, just like the Sinful Woman Who knelt at the feet of Jesus and wiped the tears off of His feet with her hair...... “ You Faith has Saved you, go in peace.....”

It is not even that, it is knowing Christ is in me........doing his thing, not mine

Galatians 2:20-21 "I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. I'm gonna boast, cause I feel LOVED! 1 Corinthians 1:30-31 It is because of him that you are in Christ Jesus, who has become for us wisdom from God - that is, our righteousness, holiness and redemption. Therefore, as it is written: "Let him who boasts boast in the Lord."

Hebrews 12:2 Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.

1 Corinthians 1:21-23 For since in the wisdom of God the world through its wisdom did not know him, God was pleased through the foolishness of what was preached to save those who believe. Jews demand miraculous signs and Greeks look for wisdom, but we preach Christ crucified: a stumbling block to Jews and foolishness to Gentiles.

I'm a nobody to the world, I'm not on Facebook....I have one follower on Twitter (my kid) and if I died today.......not that many people would even bat an eye. I'm foolishness to the world, but I had belief like a little child (open to the impossible being possible) and God has given eyes to see what is what!

Notice it does NOT say “Repent From Sins”

When the Apostle says “ Repent, Turn To God”, he is describing what “repent” means......It’s kinda like saying, “ Run fast , like a Gazelle....”
Repenting from Sins is something done automatically AFTER one is Saved— a part of God’s “Transforming us into the image of His Son”......I used to sin with abandon .....no guilt, no remorse , no trying NOT to do it again . That all has changed since I got “ Born Again” by Believing the Gospel . Now when I sin, the shame and guilt that I experience makes Sinning about as Pleasurable as sticking my hand in a Fire......I dont WANT to Sin anymore.....that is how God Works in our lives—— He CHANGES our WANTS ....
Regret and shame may play a part in our Turning to God , ( I know that it did in mine) but we must be careful to realize that even Judas felt “ regret and shame”, so we know that that is Not the way obtain Salvation......Turning to God is what sets everything in Motion..... Peter Sinned by denying Jesus three Times , he felt regret and remorse and TURNED TO GOD to get restored.....Judas felt regret and remorse and did NOT Turn to God......instead He turned to a Hangman’s Noose....
“ Nobody comes to God, lest the Spirit draw him.......” .... If you are ever Blessed enough to get Convicted Of Sin by the Holy Spirit Of God ( the Starting Point Of Salvation and Christianity) make sure you “ Turn to God “ .....He will see that you get lead to the Gospel That Saves....

Some people probably have only heard the gospel and don't have the rest of the Bible to reference. If they receive that Word and it starts to penetrate their hearts, they may end up having the saving kind of belief.

If they do end up with it, then they would probably just be considered "babes in Christ".

Read Hebrews 3 and 4.......Obedience to the Gospel is to REST in it.....follow that Command from God and you will never doubt your Salvation again.....getting THAT Burden off of your shoulders will Spur Love......Love Spurs the only type of Obedience that will impress God.....
