New Jerusalem

The Throne: Christ`s Rulership.

`And there shall be no more curse, but the throne of God and of the lamb shall be in it,....`(Rev. 22: 3)

The word, `throne,` represents the rule and authority of God. We know that God`s eternal throne is in the highest heavens whereas this `throne,` in the New Jerusalem is just above the earth in the universal heavens. It is God and the Lamb`s rule and authority through Israel out to the nations of the world.

Christ`s servants (Israel) will not only be able to serve Him but will be able to see Him and have His character outworked in the minds, (foreheads). They will walk in the `light` of His truth and reign with Him forever and ever.

` And his servants shall serve him. They shall see his face, and his name shall be on their foreheads.
And there shall be no night there: They need no lamp nor light of the sun, for the Lord God gives them light.
And they shall reign forever and ever.` (Rev. 22: 3 – 5)

To Him who overcomes is not a city. They are spoken of as two different things.
Are we who are of faith in God and Christ Jesus not the city of God, the new Jerusalem! We being the city of God as the Temple of God is within us refers to God's people united in faith and God's purpose being a community that reflects God's character and purposes in the world. There is a difference between the city of God and the city of Man as the city of God is Spiritual being those who love God and seek Him while the city of Man is earthly in those who love themselves and wordly things.

The city with walls, foundations and dimensions given in regard to length, width and height is just that a city. The City of God that comes down from heaven from Jesus's God just as He clearly stated and no wicked will ever enter that city.

The temple on earth was stated as a copy of the temple in heaven. There is a temple.

Those who overcome are the body of Christ they have entrance into that city.

It's clear to me.
the name of the city of my God, the new Jerusalem, which is coming down out of heaven from my God

The 12 foundations of that city are named after the 12 apostles of the Lord.

The Government of the City - Kings.

The Gates - the Inheritance - access to the city.

`Also she had a great and high wall with 12 gates, and 12 angels at the gates, and names written on them,
which are the names of the 12 tribes of Israel: three gates on the east, three gates on the north, three gates on the south, and three gates on the west. (Rev. 21: 12 & 13)

Gates are the entrance to a city and give access to what is within. These represent where the wise men and councilors of the city would sit to rule and give judgment of cases. The 12 tribes are represented there with their covering angels. This is the promised inheritance to Israel - a heavenly city.

`they all died in faith, not having received the promises.... Therefore God is not ashamed to be called their God,
for He has prepared a city for them.`(Heb. 11: 9, 10 & 16)

The Walls - the Kings. Protection and Security.

Walls are for protection and here they represent Christ`s government ruling in the city.

`Now the wall of the city had 12 foundations, and on them were the 12 apostles of the Lamb.`(Rev. 21: 14)

The 12 apostles were promised rulership over the 12 tribes of Israel. Their rulership is under Christ, so it is just and righteous. Thrones symbolise rulership - kings.

` you who have followed me will also sit on 12 thrones, judging the 12 tribes of Israel.` (Matt. 19: 28)

The City - The Covenant: faith in God.

`And he who talked with me had a gold reed to measure the city,....` (Rev. 21: 15)

The `gold reed,` speaks of faith in what God has promised. These people believed that God would take them to this city in the heavenlies. The shape is that of the Holy of Holies and is the place where God dwells by His Spirit and speaks to His people.

` And the city is laid out as a square and its length is as great as its breadth. And he measured the city with the reed;
12 thousand furlongs. Its length, breadth, and height are equal.` (Rev. 21: 16)

Furlongsa fixed measurement - fig. a covenant. (Gk. `stao,`)
Mat 5:14 Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.

Rev 21:21 And the twelve gates were twelve pearls; every several gate was of one pearl: and the street of the city was pure gold, as it were transparent glass.
Rev 21:22 And I saw no temple therein: for the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are the temple of it.
Rev 21:23 And the city had no need of the sun, neither of the moon, to shine in it: for the glory of God did lighten it, and the Lamb is the light thereof.
Rev 21:24 And the nations of them which are saved shall walk in the light of it: and the kings of the earth do bring their glory and honour into it.
Rev 21:25 And the gates of it shall not be shut at all by day: for there shall be no night there.
Rev 21:26 And they shall bring the glory and honour of the nations into it.
Rev 21:27 And there shall in no wise enter into it any thing that defileth, neither whatsoever worketh abomination, or maketh a lie: but they which are written in the Lamb's book of life.

There is so much symbolism within the literal description as the symbolism can represent all who are of faith that have their names written in the Lamb's book of Life as we are the kings/royal priesthood being the residence for all eternity. We are the new Jerusalem as everything will be made new again and there will be nothing that will enter that will ever defile the new creation as old things are passed away.

Rev 21:22 And I saw no temple therein: for the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are the temple of it.

In the City of GOD, which comes down from heaven just as Jesus stated. Walls, streets, foundations and dimensions given. Thats a City built by God and no unclean person will ever enter it. Gods place will then be on earth.

Does anyone realize how BIG the New Jerusalam is? Its ground footprint would cover nearly 2 million square miles—about half the size of the entire continental U.S.
I also note the height as 1500 miles goes into space. God is creating a new heaven and earth. It stated there will be no more sea as well. That suggests lots of space needed for a large family.

Rev 21:22 And I saw no temple therein: for the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are the temple of it.
Lots of specifications given on this New Jerusalem. Why if it's not a city? What's the purpose to go into such detail?
Jesus stated this city is coming down from heaven from His God but in regard to us He raises us up on the last day.

Yes, there is a lot of literal specifications in the detail, but many things in the Bible can be literal and also Spiritual in the descriptions as being likened to the literal in all its splendor.

The Old Testament saints and the 12 disciples. (Heb. 11 and Matt. 19: 28)
But, according to Galatians 3:26-29 there are no longer Jew or Gentile as we are all of faith in God and His Son Christ Jesus that makes us one in the Spirit of God.

Revelation Chapter 21-22 is very symbolic in the character and quality of the holy city “New Jerusalem” as no one could even fathom what it will look like. The description is that of the nature of this glorious kingdom of God where His true church, being the Bride of Christ, will dwell with Her Bridegroom for eternity basking in the glory of the Lord.
What is described in the literal description is that of the spiritual as with God all things are spiritual in nature. The literal description shows us the splendor of the magnificent of what has been prepared for those who are Christ own.
What God was promising in that of the literal land of Canaan given to the Israelite's was symbolic of the promise of a new heaven and new earth as this present will pass away and be made Spiritually new again in the characteristics of God’s nature, not for Israel, but for the church being the Bride of Christ as we are then united to Him for all eternity. All things of God and the prophecies will be fulfilled in the new kingdom, “New Jerusalem”. The height and the length is given in the literal, but yet symbolically could never be measured. It’s all beyond our comprehension as these were only visions given to John about the glory and splendor of the new Jerusalem.

Not everything is figurative either. I don't know how to give meaning in any other way then it's the New Jerusalem, the City of God coming down from heaven from Jesus's God just as He states. Nor understand why someone would feel the need to look elsewhere for an alternate meaning.

What is God stating other than specifications for the City of God?
Again, Jesus raises us up not the Father. Jesus stated this City comes down from His God.

And I saw the holy city, the new Jerusalem coming down out of heaven from God

Apparently, the Father Himself now comes down with that city. A new heaven. The City is 1500 miles in height.
Now God’s presence is with people, and he will live with them, and they will be his people. God himself will be with them and will be their God.

Seems literal/clear to me.
The city had a great high wall with twelve gates with twelve angels at the gates, and on each gate was written the name of one of the twelve tribes of Israel

The walls of the city were built on twelve foundation stones, and on the stones were written the names of the twelve apostles of the Lamb.

What is the Angel measuring if not this City?
The angel who talked with me had a measuring rod made of gold to measure the city, its gates, and its wall

What is the purpose of these dimensions given and why stated if it's not the City of God?
The city was built in a square, and its length was equal to its width. The angel measured the city with the rod. The city was 1,500 miles long, 1,500 miles wide, and 1,500 miles high

The angel also measured the wall. It was 216 feet high, by human measurements, which the angel was using.

Materials used as well as the dimensions is also given. Why would one not believe this testimony as given?

The wall was made of jasper, and the city was made of pure gold, as pure as glass. 19The foundation stones of the city walls were decorated with every kind of jewel. The first foundation was jasper, the second was sapphire, the third was chalcedony, the fourth was emerald, 20the fifth was onyx, the sixth was carnelian, the seventh was chrysolite, the eighth was beryl, the ninth was topaz, the tenth was chrysoprase, the eleventh was jacinth, and the twelfth was amethyst. 21 twelve gates were twelve pearls, each gate having been made from a single pearl. And the street of the city was made of pure gold as clear as glass.

Those allowed entrance into the City

Nothing unclean and no one who does shameful things or tells lies will ever go into it. Only those whose names are written in the Lamb’s book of life will enter the city.

The light source of our sun is not needed. (to shine on it)
The city does not need the sun or the moon to shine on it, because the glory of God is its light, and the Lamb is the city’s lamp.

In the City of GOD, which comes down from heaven just as Jesus stated. Walls, streets, foundations and dimensions given. Thats a City built by God and no unclean person will ever enter it. Gods place will then be on earth.
The city comes down out of heaven FROM God. God, by His Holy Spirit is everywhere, and His seat of power and authority is in the highest. (Isa. 66: 1)

But, according to Galatians 3:26-29 there are no longer Jew or Gentile as we are all of faith in God and His Son Christ Jesus that makes us one in the Spirit of God.
That is only in the Body of Christ. The Old Testament Saints are not in the Body, they are the just/righteous men (& women) waiting for their inheritance in the general assembly. (Heb. 12: 23)
