There are 613 in the OT alone. Do you follow all 613? I'm certain you don't. But this thread is about the Royal 10; discussing the merits of the other commandments are for another topic, if you care to defend your statement above.

Yes, I follow EVERY command exactly as Paul described them and in HOW they are meant to be understood. Please read that scripture citing and see ANY COMMAND encompassed therein...and more importantly HOW they are ALL to be understood. Even the 613.

People led of the flesh ONLY understand the commandments in fleshly manners. The Spirit has better addressed ANY commandment to those led to see the simplicity therein, that even a child can understand.

There are 613 commandments, but they are not all applicable to any given person.

Some are for women
some are for men
some are for slaves
some are for lepers
some are for farmers
some are for the sons of Aaron
Some are civil Law (manslaughter etc)

The number that applies for any one person is variable and much less.

Romans 13:
9 For this, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not kill, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness, Thou shalt not covet; and if there be any other commandment, it is briefly comprehended in this saying, namely, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.

The WHOLE LAW, any COMMAND, is summed up in the ONE short paragraph above. Dissecting such matters with any other 'bottom line' that violates the above is a simple lack of proper comprehension.

Any commandment IS THIS: (read the RED BOLD)

Yes, I am well aware. I was only adding to what was said about there being 613 laws in context to an individual.

Ok, but you just changed what you said previously. You said:

Any and ALL commandments in the entire Bible MUST be followed by all Christian believers.

I guarantee you don't follow many of them. Here is the list:

Judaism 101: A List of the 613 Mitzvot (Commandments)

But as I also said, it is a discussion for another topic because this one is about the 10 Commandments. :yes

My position concerning the Ten Commandments since the beginning has been that they are valid because you transgress the two Great commandments which Christ quoted from Deuteronomy and Leviticus if you break the ten, you break those two by definition:

You shall love the LORD your God with all of your heart soul and might.

(To my God: I will not go after other Gods or make idols to bow down and worship. I will not dishonor your Holy name. I will Treat that which you decree to be Holy, with due reverence I will honor my father and mother because it seems good to you that I should do such. This is a covenant of love towards you)

You shall love one another as yourself.

(To my neighbor I will not murder you, steal from you, lay down with your wife, covet what is yours or lie against you. This is a covenant of love towards you.)

It is written to whom much is given, much is required.

We have been given life everlasting, and names better than of sons and of daughters. We are rich in Christ. How much more should be required of us? Our richness is a spiritual richness, and our sacrifices should be after the spirit.

We are commanded to put off the lusts of the flesh. Those who are unwilling to deny themselves do so because they are still living in the flesh; and not after the spirit.

I am not interested in the dissection of the commandments by fleshly understandings of those commands when the simplicity has already been dissected and fully adequate for ANY COMMAND by Paul.

Any command IS as Paul stated them, and not as any flesh man will deliver in their understandings.

You brought up the 613.

The 10 and the 613 are ALL commands in any case and ANY command is to be understood as Paul stated them.

Grace is what God provides.

Faith is our action in receiving this grace,

Works is the workmanship of God in us, the product of faith and grace.

Because of our redemption, we are righteous in Christ. The outer righteousness is a result of the transforming work of the Holy Spirit to bring to realization the new man and to put the old man in the grave.

The blood of Jesus speaks better than the Law. There is a fiercer law that is written in our hearts that is part of the transformation that is going on in us.

Smaller,

Just remember one thing: God, not man, gave those commandments to Moses. :yes

I'm out.

Paul taught us in the N.T. how every command is to be understood and followed by Christian believers. Romans 13:8-10 encompasses ANY command quite adequately.

Jesus has also told us that 'man,' not just Israelites or Moses or the children of Israel, but 'man' shall live by EVERY WORD of God. The notion that ANY Word of God is NOT for man, such as 'the law' of Moses, is false.

"MAN" shall live by EVERY WORD OF GOD.

one of those commands in the 613 contradict what the lord commands ie thou shalt kill the amalekete. didnt jesus say that we are to love thine enemy.

((**groan**))

There you go again. Why do you keep twisting things away from Jesus and love back to the ten commandments? So is keeping the sabbath necessary? Thats one of the ten commandments.

You might look at it this way. The Ten Commandments aren't "do this or else!" The Ten Commandments are guidence on how to live a happy christian or Jewish life. Except for the dreaded "God" part they are also wisdom for living a happy life period.

I don't see why people are so quick to disregard them and relegate them to the past. Jesus fulfilled the law. Notice the second definition.

ful·fill·ment noun
Definition of FULFILLMENT
1: the act or process of fulfilling
2: the act or process of delivering a product (as a publication) to a customer
Variants of FULFILLMENT
ful·fill·ment or ful·fil·ment \fu̇(l)-ˈfil-mənt also fə(l)-\
Examples of FULFILLMENT
<her commendably prompt fulfillment of any assignment given her>
<he saw the entire project through, from initial idea to final fulfillment>
First Known Use of FULFILLMENT
circa 1775
Related to FULFILLMENT
Synonyms: accomplishment, achievement, discharge, enactment, execution, commission (or fulfilment), implementation, performance, perpetration, prosecution, pursuance
Antonyms: nonfulfillment, nonperformance

And you might look at it this way. Faith in Jesus and obeying His commandments of LOVE are guidance on how to live a happy (?) and righteous life. We dont need anything else. Especially OT written law.

We DONT need OT law for guidance anymore. We have Christ now.

Walter, dont be seduced by the OT laws. They are nothing to do with us Christians. And please heed Pauls words and stop pushing it on the flock.

And you might look at it this way. I will demonstrate my love BY keeping his commandments.

Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: shew me thy faith without thy works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works.

This discussion has become a dead end.

And you might look at it this way. I will demonstrate my love BY keeping his commandments.

You go ahead.

I and other Christians will just keep our love for God and others and wont worry about WORKS.....because our fruit naturally comes as a by product of our love.

---Elijah here:
Surely you have stated something that 'we' Christians agree with!

1John.2
[1] My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous:
[2] And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world.
[3] And [hereby we do know that we know him, if] we keep his commandments.
[4] He that saith, I know him,
and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him.

[4] He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him.

Thanks Elijah. Thats my point exactly. If you meet someone and they say. "Yeah...I'm Christian" then they go out and murder. He is a liar. Because anyone following Christ's two commandments would never do that. You can spot the bad guys by their fruit.

Cheers bud. Nice post.

You are right on with that. You mention murder, and your thinking covers all of James 2 Royal Law, huh?

[8] If ye fulfil the royal law according to the scripture, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself, ye do well:
[9] But if ye have respect to persons, ye commit sin, and are convinced of the law as transgressors.
[10] For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and [yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all.]
[11] For he that said, Do not commit adultery, said also, Do not kill. Now if thou commit no adultery, yet if thou kill, thou art become a transgressor of the law.
[12] So speak ye, and so do, as they that shall be judged by the law of liberty.

Interesting Inspired Words of Royal Law & your murder commandment (taking us back to the ten) + being JUDGED by that Law. And surely the one breaking of a chain link finds it useless. And that is our standard of Judgement!

I think that Eccl. 12:13-14 has the CONCLUSION there, huh?

--Elijah

Eccl. 12

[13] Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and [keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.]
[14] For God shall bring every work [into judgment, with every secret thing, whether it be good, or whether it be evil].

Exactly. Well said Elijah.

The law of liberty. The law of Love. The law written on our hearts. Christs commandments. Thats all we need.

No need for written OT law. It's gone.

Cheers buddy. Your posts are certainly complex and cryptic but you get there in the end.

Peace :::::::::::::::::::::::: Doc.
