My favorite browser is internet explorer.It was frozen this morning.Would not work at all.Anyone else having problems with it?I am now on firefox but I don't like it as well.It is more difficult for me to navigate with.

There's your problem, right there. I used to always use Firefox, but then they changed it and made it almost identical with Google Chrome, which I don't like very much. The Linux version still has the same interface, so I still use Firefox at home, but at work, where I have to use Windows, I use Pale Moon, which is a Firefox derivative that has kept the old interface.

I hate firefox and I can not get my bookmarks of all the sites I go to.I had them all set up on IE
 
Personally, I like Chrome. The settings actually follow you to any computer you want to use, you just log into your google account through the browser.

Incidentally, Kathi, your bookmarks are actually stored in a folder on your computer. Just look for the following path: C:\Users\[your name here]\Favorites.
 
Not speaking for Kathi ...Knotical but screen shots are very helpful to me
 
I haven't used FF for a few years but I believe you should also be able to import the bookmarks from IE to Firefox. Wait, I take that back. I did install FF a few months ago to give it another try but found it was too sluggish, which is why I left it in the first place and began using Chrome a few years ago. I also tried using IE again but found it to be too sluggish as well. I really have been happier with Chrome.
 
Without doing screen shots, basically all you need to do to find your favorites is to click on the Start button in the bottom left corner of our screen, then click on Computer. This will open your file explorer. You should see the drives in your computer. Normally the main drive on your computer is the "C" drive. Double click on the C drive, then click on the folder titled "users", from here you should see whatever account name you use to log into your computer, double click on the folder with that name. In that folder you should see the "Favorites" folder. This is where your computer stores all of your bookmarks/favorites.

It's not IE or FF that's sluggish. It's probably the whole operating system in general. :lol

I can't use IE on this computer or any of mine. You have to use it only with Microsoft. But I understand IE is very poor with security.

And speaking of MS, that's so last generation. With Android, Macs, Google Chromes and Linuxes in this household I don't know what anyone here means by "sluggish". You can add "tune-ups", spyware, dry-by viruses, slow ups, defrags and other such yesteryear stuff to that list as well. Haven't had any such issues for years. Is having such stuff like grandma's old crank telephone? :lol Gotta keep up with the times.
 
You would not believe the nightmare I have had with my computer today.First of all IE was frozen.I could get my home page but it was frozen I could not navigate anywhere.My computer is very,very slow.I called my internet server which is Century Link and they did a couple of things and they told me it was not there problem.I called Avast which is my antivirus co. and of course they told me "well for $119.00 we can fix it for you.Well,I am sorry I did it because I went ahead and gave them the money and they said they would have my computer working.Well,the IE still is not working the home page is frozen.Should I ask for my money back or for them to really fix the problem?
Also I tried to go on my e-mail and it was not working because it said I need to enable cookies.Is cookies supposed to enabled or not?This has not been a good computer day at all.
Oh....I went on and did a scan on Emsisoft.It said I had a very serious file that was at risk so it got rid of it for me.

You should not constantly use Internet Explorer, I use it for certain things only, but not for a constant web browser.. People are always trying to crack Internet Explorer. You would be better off using Mozilla Firefox

I hate firefox with a passion.IE was so much user friendly for me.And with my ability I need user friendly.
 
Yahoo seems to be the real problem.If I could get IE to work I could get another homepage such as google but my startup IE is frozen.

You have gotten solid advise already but I'll chime in anyway. i and a few of the clubs I have been connected with know that Internet Explorer is another windoze oxymoron that is, perhaps best known as the Internet Destroyer. It and it's sister app, Look Out express, called by some, incorrectly, Outlook Express, are the two most dangerous apps in this world. They are almost as dangerous as the DOS hole MS refuses to close that is in every MS OS release since their MSDOS operating system.

Either Google Chrome or Firefox are your safest bet and then use Thunderbird for your email and it will greatly reduce your chances for the issue you are suffering from right now.

If you are using XP, RegscrubXP downloaded from Majorgeeks is clean of virus'and it will clean the hundreds of registry errors from you system for free. Run it and Adaware once every week and your system, with a good antivirus, not McAffee nor Norton, and your 'puter will always run like it should. If you are running Vista or 7, RegscrubVista from Majorgeeks will clean your registry. If you have 8, may God bless until the Regscrub is written for 8.
 
Kathi, I don't know how you use your browser, but if you tend to use multiple tabs at once that could also be contributing to performance issues. With most of the browsers available today (Firefox, IE, Chrome, etc...) every tab is essentially its own window, and thus takes up the same amount of resources as having that many windows open. Try to limit the number of tabs you have open at the same time if your computer is having trouble handling it.

Also, if you are looking for a good security suite for your computer, I recommend Bitdefender. I have been using it for years, and have not had any problems. The suite does come with some PC cleaning tools as well.

Yes taylor is right Bit Defender is great about one of the best you are going to find for protection, but even though certain bit Defender software has Anti Logger, I had a phony Fire Fox web page put up once so that they could monitor my key strokes. I ended up getting a laptop stolen that was coming through the mail, a few here should remember that like reba,, but when UPS told me where they dropped off my notebook I had her arrested. So I got my laptop back plus HP gave me a brand new laptop, because I had sent mine in for repair. But the thing is they were looking at my key strokes and were able to see what I was doing on my desktop , by putting up a phony webpage. So a program like Zemana stops all of that, Webroot is another top of the line protection software. And if you can't afford a program use Vipre the free version, and the firewall in the program is good too, or you can use Comodo a very good Firewall. But actually this year Vipre is number one the paid version ESET which was Nod 32 is number 2 and Bit Defender is number 3.
 
I called the Avast tech team this morning and told them that since I gave them $119.00 to fix my IE that is what I want to happen.When I got up this morning it still was frozen.It took the tech guy over 3 hours to work on it and it is now fixed.It is slow but working.The major problem was with Yahoo.

This is what comes up now when I want to get to my Google e-mail.It will not let me on.Any idea what I can do?
