Discussing the teachings of Catholicism vs Scripture

We can't say we obey and get saved

Obeying the Gospel, the truth, is exactly how we are saved.

Obeying the Gospel command to repent is our eternal commitment to serve Jesus Christ as our Lord; Our King who we commit to obey.

in flaming fire taking vengeance on those who do not know God, and on those who do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ. 2 Thessalonians 1:8

You keep fighting and resisting the word obedience because you don’t want to submit to anyone.

You can trust Jesus. He won’t let you down. He won’t misuse you. He won’t lie to you. He won’t fail you. He won’t mistreat you.

He loves you, now and forever.

He is the lover of your soul.

He laid His life down for you.

He is your Mighty King, He is your Lord.

trust and obey
for there's no other way.....

Yes, a nice song

No need to get personal about this
I believe in Jesus and I trust and obey

the point is, we get saved before we begin our journey of obeying
when I got saved, the Holy Spirit put it into my heart to do everything I could to serve God
But I got saved first
That's my point
when you say we need to obey, you put salvation into our own hands when I believe it will always remain in God's hands
His Holy Spirit put a seal on me and I know that that will never be broken

When you are truly saved, you know the Holy Spirit is with you and you know there is no other way but to trust and obey
My point is if you don't have this, then you were never saved to begin with.

I'm not the one that put a name to it, calling it OSAS, and then putting a bunch of rules that go along with it
That's what you all seem to be fighting, this doctrine someone made up and you don't agree with the rules they put with it

I can't and don't want to defend that, but I still know that I am saved forever, just like when King David said, "and I will dwell in the House of the Lord forever".

We are saved by obeying the Gospel.

But they have not all obeyed the gospel. For Isaiah says, “LORD, who has believed our report?” Romans 10:16

You can believe Jesus is the Lord just like the demons do, and still obey Satan, just like the demons do.

Your Lord is the one you obey.

That's legalism.
There are many ways a person can get saved, I am one of them.
A person can get saved without ever knowing what the Bible says, without ever hearing a salvation message, and without ever knowing what an altar call was.

I know because I was one of them.
I wanted help and I was convinced it was God who gave it to me.
Then I had to decide if I believed that Jesus was really God.
When I did, I said in quiet private, "Jesus, I do believe you are God."
When I said it, I felt those words come alive inside me.
So I kept saying it, and the more I said it, the more real it became.
Then I felt an overwhelming change come over me.
That has continued to this day, some 35 years and 4 months ago.

I've talked to other people through the years who got saved in similar fashioned, each one of us a little different.
My wife and I evangelize out in the streets for many years now, almost everyday.
Sometimes I don't feel like doing it, but the Holy Spirit pushes me out the door and then I always feel better afterwards.
Spreading God's word never comes back void.
My wife and I talk about salvation differently.
She's more by the book and I freelance a little bit.
But I do it because I want to obey and please God.
There's the main point.
No legalism, just a relationship between me and Jesus forever.

That's legalism.

How is obeying the Gospel legalism?

Explain.

Do you understand what I mean by obeying the Gospel?

While you’re thinking about your response, here are some scriptures that use the phrase obey the Gospel.

But they have not all obeyed the gospel. For Isaiah says, “LORD, who has believed our report?” Romans 10:16

Since you have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit in sincere love of the brethren, love one another fervently with a pure heart, having been born again, not of corruptible seed but incorruptible, through the word of God which lives and abides forever. 1 Peter 1:22-23

You include obeying the Gospel as part of salvation.
As James spoke, it's after the fact, it's not the fact itself.
I just explained it all to you, why don't you understand?

Are you just taking the side of non-OSAS-ers because their argument is weak, that they need help to continue this thread?
Well I agree.

Again, according to your quoted Scriptures, who has lost their salvation?
I don't see anyone listed in the Bible.

Yes, to believe in his son..
Those who put rules to this are non-OSAS'ers

John 3:36 He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.

To believe on the Son is one thing as even the demons believe and tremble at His name. The devils do not obey the commands of God, even though they believe in Jesus as they made Satan their god.

We who believe also obey God's commands knowing that we are risen with Christ and seek those things which are above, where Christ sits on the right hand of God, Colossians 3:1-4. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them, Ephesians 2:10, as faith without works is dead faith, James 2:14-26.

Mary mother of God.....

Mother Mary and Joseph!!!!!
No one around here likes to hear this.
The fact, she is/was the mother of God here on earth in the flesh.
Take it or leave it, but you can't change it.

Mary had her own prayer.
Luke 1:46-55:
She also has her own song.
In the Bible, yes.
Makes her quite famous, doesn't it.

Surprise!
She's also the most revered woman in the Bible by Muslims.
Popularity through different faiths.

The roman catholics decided to make Mary the queen of heaven
In my opinion, that's where all the doo-wah was caused.

If we read about Mary and talk about all the good she does in Scripture and as a good example for all believers, and forget about the roman catholic doo-wah, we may just like her a little bit instead of looking down on her as a trouble maker to protestants

Hail Mary!
Yes, if we have a mother to the Christian faith, it's Mary!

Here's the thing, none of us are saved yet until the time of Christ return.

Matthew 24:13 But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved.

Salvation means to be delivered from sin and the consequences that sin brings about in our life. This is brought about by faith in Christ that is the free gift of the grace of God. The only work on our part in the beginning of salvation is confessing Jesus as our Lord and Savior as we repent of our sins. From there we grow our faith in obedience to God's commands and statures as we walk in obedience by His Holy Spirit. God strengthens our faith if we allow Him, especially when we are faced with trials and tribulations that will try to consume us.

We learn from scripture that many will fall away from faith as they fear, not putting on the full armour of God, and give up on Christ when faced with trials and tribulations that come against them in this world, even though Christ has overcomed the world. We all face those times that we need to be enduring, but many fall away no longer believing or trusting in the Lord as they grieve and quench the Holy Spirit as they walk away from a Godly lifestyle never to return again, Matthew 10:28; John 16:31-33; Ephesians 4:17-32.

Rom 10:15 And how shall they preach, except they be sent? as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things!

Yes, if we have a mother to the Christian faith, it's Mary!

Mary is not famous, but only blessed above other women as she was chosen to bring forth the Christ child as she was pure and had no sin found in her. Mary is still in her grave like everyone before her and after her that have died waiting for the resurrection of the dead when Christ returns, John 3:13; 5:28, 29.

Who cares what Muslims think as they only believe Jesus was a Prophet and nothing more.

The Catholic Priesthood, catechism, the seven sacraments, praying to Mary, the stages of the cross, idol worshiping and the list goes on is not found in scripture, but only found in the doctrine of the Catholic Church.

Mary is not the mother of God.

God has no beginning nor end.

She gave birth to the flesh and blood infant called Jesus.

God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.

John 10:1 is talking about following Jesus, not how they came to know him.
Did you listen to my message or just read it?
Obviously, someone had to have told me about Jesus.
Why would I ponder whether he was God or not?
I remember Jack Van Impe in the olden days on Tv preaching the Gospel and telling people they needed to be saved.
That was early 1980's.
My point being the traditional message was never pointed out to me.
If it was, and maybe it was, I did not remember it when I gave my heart to Jesus.

The Requiem Mass also known as the Mass of the dead is a Mass in the Catholic Church offered for the repose of the soul or in other words, pray for the souls of the dead using a particular form of the Roman Missal, which is part of the Roman Rite as being the liturgical book.

In Roman Catholic doctrine they believe when one dies they go into purgatory that is a place or state of suffering inhabited by the souls of the sinners who are expiating their sins before going to heaven having others pray for their soul. This is not Biblical as when one dies then judgement follows death, Hebrews 9:27.

I already explained what the Roman Rite is all about in post 142

Believe is something that comes from our hearts
Obey is to comply to commands, a robot can do that
we believe and get saved
then we obey

We can't say we obey and get saved
then we believe

No, they do not mean the same though they go well together for general purposes

A lot of people who talk like this are actually talking about pharisees who appear good people but actually only like the image and not the reality behind it. They have no heart or concern for others.

So the criticism that knowing God is about love from the heart not boasting about how well you do things or obey. But the power of love is you desire to do that which is life and love. Unfortunately it is obvious to many how people believe ideas but do not know how to put love and spiritual reality in Him into practice.

We all make mistakes, but to forgive, to ask for forgiveness takes grace and love, which distinguishes those who know how to walk after the Lord and those who do not. God bless you
