This is it. I remember there were rules against multiple accounts. It took me about 4 days to recall my password, but I did it!

    Not-So-New Guy

Hi, everyone. I've been away from the forums for just about two years. And they've been two very difficult years, but that's behind me now. I always enjoyed the conversations and discussions around here, and I'm looking forward to more of them and meeting the newer people. God bless, my friends...

Growth What is the Evidence of being filled with the Holy Spirit?

I come from a Pentecostal background - the church I was saved in was an AOG church. I did speak in tongues, but only once, and it was about 2 years after I had accepted Christ. Hasn't happened since, and that was over 10 years ago. So was I just pretending at/thinking I was saved until that...

Do you support OSAS(once saved always saved)?

Yes, but Peter clearly tells us that they knew Jesus Christ and fell away. And as for "worse off than before" - if barely escaping is what they were before, then what's worse than that? Not escaping at all.

Do you support OSAS(once saved always saved)?

Peter tells us plainly that people will know Jesus Christ and turn away. 2 Peter 2:20-22 - “20 And when people escape from the wickedness of the world by knowing our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and then get tangled up and enslaved by sin again, they are worse off than before. 21 It would be...

Then why did you quote those verses to support it? You chose those passages. Not me. I am merely pointing out that it's our belief and obedience that guarantees salvation - until we deliberately and voluntarily walk away. There is no clause anywhere in Scripture that says "unless you used to...
  7. Matthew G

Do you support OSAS(once saved always saved)?

Yes, because they were going back on their faith. This is why they were warned that those who have been partakers of the Holy Ghost (which only comes through faith in Christ) if they should fall away (if it's not possible - then the writer lied) cannot be brought back to repentance. "4 For it...

Do you support OSAS(once saved always saved)?

You say eternal security depends entirely on who and what God is, that nothing we do can impact it. Yet in the verses you quoted, receiving the gift of salvation is left entirely up to us. “He who believes in the Son has eternal life; but he who does not obey the Son shall not see life, but...

Do you support OSAS(once saved always saved)?

Fair enough - but if being enlightened means to have spiritual truth - does that not lead to faith in Christ which leads to salvation? Jesus said, "I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me." - John 14:6 (emphasis mine) If repentance only comes after...

Do you support OSAS(once saved always saved)?

And just as another little ditty, I point out Hebrews 6:4-6. “4 For it is impossible to bring back to repentance those who were once enlightened—those who have experienced the good things of heaven and shared in the Holy Spirit, 5 who have tasted the goodness of the word of God and the power...

Do you support OSAS(once saved always saved)?

Exactly, and Jesus was God in the flesh, and He deliberately used the word "stay" - and if God can speak our entire universe into existence, I think He can handle a simple sentence. Again - it is impossible to "stay" with something you were never with to begin with. This came from the mouth...

Do you support OSAS(once saved always saved)?

And just to clarify - I don't mean to imply that salvation can be lost and gained and a daily/weekly/hourly basis. There's a big difference between struggling with sin, and deliberately living in it. When speaking of salvation being lost - it's the deliberate living in sin that's talked about.

Then please explain the words of Christ from John 15:6 that I quoted. Again - He said those who don't "stay" which means they were there at some point and then walk away. Again - if this isn't possible, as you suggest - why did Jesus waste His time with it?
  14. Matthew G

Do you support OSAS(once saved always saved)?

As I said, Jesus said those who don't stay with Him - which would indicate that they were there to begin with. So if this isn't possible, why would Jesus waste His time talking about it?
  15. Matthew G

Do you support OSAS(once saved always saved)?

I don't personally, because I find nothing in Scripture that suggests it. I do, however, find much that suggests salvation can be lost. We need to remember that salvation is something none of us deserve to begin with - but OSAS basically tells us we can take it for granted and get by. If...

    Greek New Testament Versions...

Hello, everyone. I may be getting ahead of myself a bit, but I just began to study Koine Greek, and I was wondering if anyone has experience with Greek versions (that may not be the right word) of the New Testament. It's going to be quite awhile before I can read/translate with any fluency...

    Sons and Daughters

I went through this for a short period. We always wanted 2 children - a boy and a girl - but had agreed on 3 if the first 2 were both the same sex. After 3 children of the same sex, we were going to take that as a hint and call it a day. Our first daughter was actually supposed to a son. I...

    Spank Your Child 10 Times

I'm a big believer in corporal punishment. We rarely do "Time-Out" at my house, and that's because my dad used to take time out of his busy day to bust my butt when I needed it. Now that I'm older and look back, I also recognize that there were more than a few times I should've gotten my butt...

[__ Prayer __] Prayers for patience and a positive outcome

Fantastic news. God is awesome - though I think perhaps this may have been an instance of Him tapping me on the shoulder and saying, "You know, ignoring that stuff isn't too smart." I spent several hours on the phone today, and thought it was weird that I saw a pattern developing. All the...

[__ Prayer __] Prayers for patience and a positive outcome

Hello, all. Well, we're in the process of trying to move, hopefully for the last time for quite awhile. Out of curiosity, I pulled my credit reports a couple hours ago to see what was on there. Guess what? Yep. Identity theft. Several times. To the tune of roughly $40,000. Boy, I sure...
