I think one needs to be very careful in judging their brothers and sisters in Christ by 1,2, and 3 John teachings. If one fails to understand that John is teaching against false teachers and false doctrines, such as those of the gnostic type, which taught a lifestyle of licentiousness, they may assume that the person who is truly born of God, who has some continuing problem in their life is not born of God, or that one who has backslidden for some reason, is not born of God.
imo,
Just like Saul we can be over zealous in our love for God and end up harming God's little ones.
My sign would say, "Proceed with caution." in judging others salvation.

I do not speak here as a woman who has not consulted Godly men's writings. In relation to the backslidden both Charles Spurgeon, Calvinist, and Adam Clarke, Arminian, teach caution in judging them as being unsaved, not born of God. And both speak about the struggles of the battles some face during their sanctification process.

Point Taken .

I don't believe anyone has left this earth to receive eternal life, that have been justified by anything they have done other than 'being reconciled to God'. reconciled = to change mutually

You believe that there is one God. You do well. Even the demons believe—and tremble! 20 But do you want to know, O foolish man, that faith without works is dead?[f] 21 Was not Abraham our father justified by works when he offered Isaac his son on the altar? 22 Do you see that faith was working together with his works, and by works faith was made perfect? James 2:19-22

I believe that James gives us an example of how the work of obedience together with our faith makes faith complete.

When he says "demons believe", and they fear and tremble, he is demonstrating that believing or faith alone is not complete and can not save, unless it has obedience working together with faith.

When he says "demons believe", and they fear and tremble
The demons know who He is and they know that they have already been judged and they tremble.
Joh 16:11 and concerning judgment, because the ruler of this world hath been judged.

But they can't believe that Jesus died for them, or that they can be washed in the blood of the Lamb, and reconciled to God. They can't have faith for that. They have no source of redemption.
Jesus didn't die for the angels, for demons, or for satan. He died for people. He died as a man, in the flesh, for mankind. He took our place.
He didn't come as a spirit being and die as a spirit being, to take the spirit beings' place.

James says, that Rahab was justified by one belief and one act [fruit] of faith. She believe that the God of Israel was the one true god, she chose to become one of His people and so she helped them, proving that she really believed, had faith. If she hadn't helped them, that would prove that she really didn't have faith enough to choose to do what was necessary to save herself and her family from destruction. Saving faith.

That is part of the sanctification process, isn't it?

How so?

James is establishing a principle of the law of faith.

Faith, without works [obedience] is dead.

Whether faith for salvation, faith for healing, or faith for sanctification; faith without the specific act of obedience is dead.

Let me ask you a question.

Do you believe that people can repent, turn to God, and become born again, while still needing to turn away from specific weaknesses, that cause a desire for them to sin in a certain area.

In other words, when we are saved and then filled with the Holy Spirit, aren't their still areas we need to be healed from, delivered from, in order for our growth in Christ to continue...?

to open their eyes, in order to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan to God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins and an inheritance among those who are sanctified by faith in Me.' Acts 26:18

Which basically we understand to mean as -
...among those who are being sanctified, by faith in Me.

Which is how the King James says it in Romans -

That I should be the minister of Jesus Christ to the Gentiles, ministering the gospel of God, that the offering up of the Gentiles might be acceptable, being sanctified by the Holy Ghost.
Romans 15:16 KJV

Same word is used here.

In other words we are sanctified with His righteousness at the new birth, however there is still the work of sanctification that continues for our growing up into Him.

Demons believe in God, yet still serve Satan.
