Believe in God, you will be saved

What if I never heard the gospel message?
Can I still love God and be saved?
faith comes by hearing hearing comes by the word of God /to be saved a seed has to be planted first either by reading or hearing
14 How then shall they call on Him in whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in Him of whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without a preacher? 15 And how shall they preach unless they are sent? As it is written:

“How beautiful are the feet of those who [b]preach the gospel of peace,
Who bring glad tidings of good things!”
16 But they have not all obeyed the gospel. For Isaiah says, “Lord, who has believed our report?” 17 So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

18 But I say, have they not heard? Yes indeed:

“Their sound has gone out to all the earth,
And their words to the ends of the world.”

I agree with you that this is the way most persons become saved.
They hear about God and His plan for fallen humanity.
Or they read either the bible or some other book that allows them to come to believe in God as a reality.

Then they find out what God wants and they are determined to do this and they are thus saved.

I don't believe in a formula, however.

I've seen too much that does not follow any pattern and yet the person loves God and follows Him.

What I've come to believe is that a person must:
1. Acknowledge that God exists.
2. Understand that they are fallen.
3. Give their life to God.
4. If they've heard of Jesus, they must come to some understanding as to who He is.

Hebrews 6.1 kjv
1. Therefore leaving the principles of the doctrine of Christ, let us go on unto perfection; not laying again the foundation of repentance from dead works, and of faith toward God,
2. Of the doctrine of baptisms, and of laying on of hands, and of resurrection of the dead, and of eternal judgment.
3. And this will we do, if God permit.
4. For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted of the heavenly gift, and were made partakers of the Holy Ghost,
5. And have tasted the good word of God, and the powers of the world to come,
6. If they shall fall away, to renew them again unto repentance; seeing they crucify to themselves the Son of God afresh, and put him to an open shame.

There is a path that leads to Jesus.

Once we reach Jesus we do not backtrack to repentance and start again ( if we sin). We confess our sin and move forward in faith.

This is a difficult passage for me. I read, re read, read a third time ….,

Some people have not found Jesus yet. To them they are still on the path toward Jesus, and this does not yet fully apply to them. We want all to come to salvation through Christ Jesus.

not sure what a formula is the main thing is it must be from a true heart the spirt drawing them in. i have seen misarranges at the altar. they simply do not stick with it i do NOT like repeat this prayer after me your saved the night i was saved all i said was God save me its simple as A B C acknowledge Believe confess then i heard it say the 3 B born again baptized blessed

2 baptism water baptism spirit baptized into the body of Christ. which is the most important one
The second won't usually happen without the first one.
The only NT case of it happening in reverse order, was at Cornelius's home.
And that was a special circumstance to impress upon the visiting Jews that God had also accepted the Gentiles.

We repent of our sins throughout
our life.

We went through repentance at a point in time.

Read Hebrews 6.

I posted this is a tough passage to work through.

If you turn from, say, murder, you won't need to do it again.
If you lie to God about turning from any particular sin, you are just a liar.

This is my understanding.
We are working on the Title of this thread.
At the last trump we will be changed. The resurrection has not already happened.

1 Corinthians 15:52 kjv
52. In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.
53. For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality.

Acts 2:38 kjv
38. Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.

Acts 16:31 kjv
31. And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.

Acts 4.10 kjv
10. Be it known unto you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom ye crucified, whom God raised from the dead, even by him doth this man stand here before you whole.
11. This is the stone which was set at nought of you builders, which is become the head of the corner.
12. Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.

Repentance prepares the way
Jesus is The means of salvation
Jesus baptizes in the Holy Spirit
(According to John the Baptist) the method may vary.

Agreed.

Also, I'd like to make a statement about the word REPENT, which you are discussing with eddif .

We REPENT only ONE time in our christian life.
To repent means to turn away from.
It just means that we were headed into the grip of satan and we decided to repent...turn away...
and head towards God.

When we sin, we do not need to repent AGAIN.
We fell down, we ask forgiveness, get up and keep going.

Every time we sin we do not become lost again and need to become born again.
I believe this is what eddif was saying.

You done good.

You know eddif, I really think that Hebrews 6 is very much misunderstood.

I say this because it IS possible to leave God and then decide at some later time in life to go back to Him.
Jesus is always looking for the lost sheep and will carry that sheep back to the fold.
So it is possible to desert God, become lost again, and then become saved again.
This is also shown in the Parable of the Prodigal Son when Jesus states that the son is FOUND AGAIN.
Again meaning, of course, a second time.

I believe this passage refers to the Jews who had tried to believe that Jesus was the Messiah and had turned to Him but were now doubting who He really was.

Great Commission might have 3? Aspects of salvation

John’s water baptism of Repentance
( sins against the Father)

Jesus baptism of salvation
(Immersed in belief?)

Baptism of Holy Spirit
( power to be a witness)

With the various translations it is pretty hard to even discuss this.
Also
Every group tends to have formula.

both the same johns was external Christ eternal when we get saved we are baptized into the Body of Christ

1 Corinthians 12:13

13 For by one Spirit we were all baptized into one body—whether Jews or Greeks, whether slaves or free—and have all been made to drink [a]into one Spirit.

What do you think Romans 1:19-21
Is telling us?
It’s NOT telling us we can be saved eternally just because we know there is a God by what we can experience around us. What it does say is…..we can know through His creation that there is a God and with that knowledge it is now up to us to seek him out and find him. A person that truly believes that there is a God of this world will want to learn and know everything they can about who he is and what he wants. That is what he meant by…they are without excuse. We, by viewing the world around us, can know there is a God and we will be lost and without excuse if we do not seek him out.
Heb 11:6 But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him
This passage describes two aspects of pleasing faith.
First, you must believe in God.

Second, you must diligently seek him.
What if you dont “diligently seek him”? You wont have a faith that is pleasing to God.

Believe in Him and by that faith Receive Him.

Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God—

Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with that person, and they with me.

That is a good post.

I just might extend it a little.

If we see a genetic book in seed (DNA) from creation, a search for a book for spiritual reality would be in order. One would be the OT and NT Bible.

Hebrews 10:16 kjv
16. This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, saith the Lord, I will put my laws into their hearts, and in their minds will I write them;

We see the law in seed genetic form from creation.
After the fall we see a form written in stone.
Finally we se the new covenant placed inside us. People open the door to see.

NO that is not correct when we sin we confess ask forgiveness turn from-repent

When we sin we confess our sin and He is faithful to forgive us and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 1 John 1:9

To become saved, we must obey the Gospel; the Gospel command to repent.

Repent means to “turn to God” in submission to Him as Lord.

If we are called to “turn to God” then we are called to turn away from Satan as our lord.

The “way” we obey the Gospel command to repent is to confess Jesus Christ as Lord.

that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. Romans 10:10

  • with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

Below, Paul recounts his conversation with Jesus:

Words of Christ in red —

I will deliver you from the Jewish people, as well as from the Gentiles, to whom I now send you, to open their eyes, in order to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan to God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins and an inheritance among those who are sanctified by faith in Me.’
Therefore, King Agrippa, I was not disobedient to the heavenly vision, but declared first to those in Damascus and in Jerusalem, and throughout all the region of Judea, and then to the Gentiles, that they should repent, turn to God, and do works befitting repentance.
Acts 26:17-20

Repent, in context of the Gospel, means “turn to God”, in which we turn away from Satan as our lord, by confessing Jesus as Lord.

Confessing Jesus as Lord is our initial act of obedience that causes us to be transferred out of the kingdom (domain) of darkness into the kingdom of God.

He has delivered us from the power of darkness and conveyed us into the kingdom of the Son of His love, Colossians 1:13
