Biblical Literalism

I do not believe we should take the bible literally. The bible contains truth, but is not meant to be a scientific or historical document. I don't mean to be insulting, but I truly don't understand how anyone can be a young earther, or think Noah's Ark was a literal real story, or how dinosaurs and people lived at the same time.

Of course scientists don't believe that creatures that look like something that should be 100,000,000 years old should be found today either. Every once in a while they find them, especially in the ocean.

I have always heard that the bible is the inspired word of God not the literal word of God. When I see a movie that was inspired by real events or based on a true story I understand that the things in the movie aren't actually what happened, but are there to dramatize.

It's meant to be taken literally. If I didn't believe Christ died for my sins and was resurrected for my deliverance (literally), it would be a waste of time. Do you really think we would be interested if it was just a fairytale.

To me the young earthers are to Christianity what Wahhabism is to Islam. I am not saying all young earthers are hate filled, but most have no problem denying equal rights to gays, or athiests. People like Fred Phelps only make Christians and Christianity seem hateful. Young earthers make Christians seem gullible and stupid.

Well, I can't speak for everyone that is giving out creationist information...but think about this...If there really is a God...is it a problem to make the heavens and the earth and everything in it...in the blink of an eye. He could have done it slow if He wanted also. He is eternal. Time means nothing to Him. 1000 years is as a day and 1 day is as 1000 years.

Christianity needs another reform, and just as moderate Muslims should stand up to Wahhabists, so should rational Christians stand up to the fringe of our own religion. No creation in science class. No trying to defend denying other people equal rights.

If you talked to a society that had no ability to reproduce... and said a woman could have a child... that would seem just as bizarre to them.
God has no restrictions on what He can do. You've been listening to evolutionary theory too long. It becomes engrained in our thinking. They deny the existence of God...so of course they have to come up with some plan that says how it all happened over billions of years. Check out Piltdown man, nebraska man. Many of them will make things up just to get more funding for their pockets.
In the end, regardless of how you look at it...it's going to take a leap of faith to believe in God.
I wish the best for you. If you can come to the realization that you need God's forgiveness for sin...then you are on you way to making friends with the Savior and Creator.

Sorry friend, but God can do anything He wants to do. The ridiculous explanations that come from the human mind are what's the problem! No wonder scientists disgaree with each other all the time. They can't possibly comprehend the miracle of the universe and the existence of life itself. They make up story after story, embellish their stories every year because they're so many hole in them they don't hold water. The story of evolution is by far one of the funniest stories ever written because Darwin himself couldn't even describe his main characters. That's why of course, no one today still knows who the common ancestors were. ;)

what is always interesting to me is that the worldly " liberal mind" wants everything to be so PC yet their religous "science" ideas are totally against everything PC they believe, while truth is more PC then they are with their religion of pretend science LOL

what i mean is this they are all for equal rights, do not be racist or sexist.( ok as christians we agree this far) but their evolution theory was made famous by a totally racist man who thought that black people were down on the evolution scale and were not as good as white people evolution wise. Even the title of his book was totally racist! yet they overlook that as no big deal(this was the same belief held by hitler by the way) who they want to not be like but they believe the same ideals in differnt words!

Yet christians are ridiculous to them because we believe GOD made it all and made all men EQUAL, that all races are Gods creation and that we are to LOVE ALL PEOPLE and not be a respector of persons.

Again they want to be PC in their own terms about not being sexist, so they want women to be able to be just like men and serve in the same capacity of men, AND they want to believe in evolution. Now the problem is that if evolution were real, then women were evolved to be those who bare children and raise them up to survive who make sure they are prepared to grow up and survive. If women keep killing their babies and not raising up the ones they do have that is DE_EVOLUTION! it makes those who were the fittest to survive, unfit, it cuts off future generations by which the new evolution of genes would come! So their two views are totally against each other.

Now on the other hand, christians believe women should be women in the capacity they were created for and this builds up a strong structure in people and families and societies to make us stronger and more fit yet they think we are crazy. and when we want women to be women and not men then they think we are stupid when this is what evolution if it was real would require!

Same thing with homosexuality, now they woant you to be pc and not be against this but if evolution was true then homosexuality is against evolution because to evolve you need reproduction to bring forth the new genes, wich are so rare that by not allowing as much reproduction as possible you lesson the possiblity of the evolution happening yet they are ok with thir differnces in this matter

but we who want homosexuals saved and see it not as natural and the way God made it are crazy even though if everyone was gay and evo.lution was true there would be nothing beyond the first gay person because they would have made no offspring!

One does not need to believe in magic Jesus to believe there was truth in his words. Good post. Christians are too rational to be accepted by the world. ;) we know the difference between men and women and humans and animals unlike the secular world. ;)

To use the term "magic" in regards to Jesus is to show that you really don't understand what the Bible says about him. Well, let's not go that far. I know of no other biblical literalist that thinks the way she does. However, I agree with the rest. The very fact that she is using a computer, on the Internet, to post about how "Secular universities are ruled by Satan," etc., shows how contradictory and irrational her beliefs are. Not to mention, she probably drives a car, lives in a house, etc.

(What I mean by that, Heidi, is that you are using all the technology and tools developed by higher education. This means you are actually supporting the very thing you are saying is evil.)

The bottom line is that when scientists agree with God they are always right.That means they accurately understand His design and use His natural laws to to understand how things work. But when they disagree with God they are always wrong. That's because only Satan entices people to oppose God and he's the father of lies. And since the goal of many scientists is not to believe the bible but to try to disprove it, then scientists are most often wrong. Otherwise, they'd never look for alternate scenarios than what the bible says. So all we ever need is God. :wink3

I know of no other biblical literalist that thinks the way she does.

God thinks the way I do. He says:

Isaiah 2:22, "Stop trusting in man who has but a breath in his nostrils. of what account is he?"

Psalm 49:13-14, "This is the fate of those who trust themselves, and of their followers who approve of their sayings, like sheep they are destined for the grave, and death will feed on them."

Psalm 146:3, "Do not put your trust in princes, in mortal men who cannot save. When their spirit departs, they return to the ground; on that very day their plans come to nothing."

Mt. 23:10, "And do not be called teacher for you have one teacher and that is Christ." :wink3

My last post on this subject just contained a few smilies that showed utter confusion. I am dumfounded and even angry at the mention that the Bible should not be taken literaly, and that Jesus died and did not rize from the dead and that he is not God. It scares me to think how the world has corrupted Christianity and that man can equal our faith in God to Buddahism and other religions. We are all warned not to be decieved and if anyone is reading this PLEASE, do not listen to the nonsense kenmaynard is writing, it will remove you further from God and closer into Satans deception. Kenmaynard, I pray you will think long and hard and pray to God for guidence over this matter. I am sure their is nothing I can say to change your heart regarding your beliefs, and I am in no means trying to judge you, I truly believe that what you are saying is in correct and harmful to the Christian church. I became a Christian because I believe in what Christ said and what the Bible says literally. I cannot see how we can believe in our salvation any other way and when we try to change the meaning of the bible, we only make Christianity into a worldly religion, made by man. Christ said the world will hate us as it hated him first. Christianity is not a politically correct religion, or a socially correct religion. It is the only way to God the father.

Your logic is very faulty. Are some people who now teach, or have taught evolution, racist? Yes, but that has nothing to do with anything. George Washington owned slaves, and so did many early American Christians. Does that mean that Christians today believe in slavery?

As for homosexuals not reproducing. Many homosexuals have children.

:amen Those who don't take the bible literally think it's nothing more than a fairy tale. They also have no clue what the history of the Jews is, how we were created, who God is, what He does for mankind and that Jesus really lived and died for our sins. So they are not true believers.

Well, that simply isn't an accurate portrait, but even if it were, it still misses the point -- the bible sanctions slavery, like it or not. So if some one appeals to some passage here or there that they believe the spirit of which speaks against slavery (because there are no explicit ones against it), that only proves the bible isn't unanimous on the problem.

Whichever way you look at it, the bible's teachings cannot not be seen as the motivation for abolitionism. Noble misinterpretation of some parts of the bible while ignoring others that condone slavery is still just a reflection of the humanitarianism of the individuals involved, not the bible itself.
