usually amongst the wealthy and in another form . gold digging, when women sell themselves for that wealth. It's still practiced today, just more subtley and dishonestly.
The dowry is a corruption of the Biblical bride price.oh the dowry. ok, yeah I don't think that is common in America.
50 shekels was supposed to be given to the father if I recall.i have mixed feelings on that. as well what if daddy is an atheist? husband to be and daughter aren't? I do think parental input should be asked for but there is the other coin of that. The dowry is a corruption of the Biblical bride price.
I bid one dollar.
This explanation of the Torah is in the old Jewish writings.50 shekels was supposed to be given to the father if I recall.i have mixed feelings on that. as well what if daddy is an atheist? husband to be and daughter aren't? I do think parental input should be asked for but there is the other coin of that.
would love to hear whatsssupIt's still practiced today, just more subtley and dishonestly.
Really? The amount of money must be a huge one, say, A million dollars in our modern dayThis explanation of the Torah is in the old Jewish writings.
The father was not paid the bride price.
There was an agreement with her father as to what that price would be. .... 200 shekels, 400 shekels......
In the Law, if a husband divorce the wife, she went out with the bride price. If she divorced him, she went out with nothing except what was her's before they married.
If the husband died, and there was an eldest son, who was responsible for taking care of his mother, then he received the bride price to be used for her care. This is the only one that I have not found yet in Torah. This may even be part of what Corbin was about, don't know. But it kind of makes sense seeing Jesus brought it up Corbin and it makes sense that it was against the Law, part of honoring the parents, not just tradition.
It was later that men corrupted the Law that God intended to protect the wife and turned her into a piece of merchandise.
The divorce things are in the Law of Moses. This site will help you find it in the Law, http://www.jewfaq.org/613.htmis that in a commentary? or from rashi et all. it does sound like its the case. I remember the divorce thing.
It's ridiculous, that's what it is. I had to wait an extra two days to get married.Isn't this whole issue of bride price thing humorous? Is it still practiced today, especially among Christians? How biblical is it?
Sounds like buying a woman.
dowry
Abraham paid 400 shekels for Sarah's burial site.Really? The amount of money must be a huge one, say, A million dollars in our modern day
I wasn't really referring to the old Testament stuff. I was thinking more of the women who will only date men who can show signs (and even proof) of having a lot of money. She isn't very concerned about liking the guy for who he is as she is concerned about how much money he has in the bank to pay for her lifestyle, and how much she will be allowed to take when she divorces him. If he measures up in the financial department, she will use her charm, sex, the illusion of her love for him, and anything else she can pull off to "get" him. In the end, he will pay for her or she will walk away.would love to hear whatsssup
