Capitalist society

Possibly they could have been able to pay if off, im not a home owner so i dont know the details. All i know is they had to change to mainline and folk out a heap of coin.
if your country is like mine. you can look that up. my taxes and property is online and open to public information online. I use the county appraiser to check my ad valorem and also have used it to find out on old properties that have historical value to the local history.ie and old school that goes back to the 20s, or to locate a home for my paper route.

I knew an older couple and they had a couple of rentals. They said those rentals were their retirement.

i know of some that do that. doctors and lawyers and others buy rentals and use them as a tax break.

Capitalism is good, but when it is taken too far it turns to Corporatism, which makes it harder to operate under capitalism. The corporations move in and buy up the small businesses to gain a monopoly, then they can price things however they want under the guise of capitalism. This makes everyone have to raise the prices to keep up and be able to survive. It's a vicious circle.

My dad has always said that even a bad business is better than a good job. it rang true in the early days because the economics and freedom of time, it still rings true now because I can go for days without working and then make a weeks wages in a few hours, the bonus at this time is that when work is slow, I have more time to study the Lords Word and get rich in His Word.

Having a second or third source of income nowadays is pretty much essential.

I don't understand the point you're making with your comment "Capitalism is good, but when it is taken too far it turns to Corporatism." Are you assuming that corporatism is a natural outgrowth of capitalism?

not really. just my feelings about the world (the States specifically) and how it seems to be going. Corporatism seems to be the natural outgrowth of greed, lol.

Yes, I think you're right, we do seem to be moving more and more into crony capitalism, or corporatism.

yeah, if people weren't so greedy everyone would have a better life and be able to make it easier. If they still made millions per year, what practical difference would it make for them? Nada. but everyone else would have it easier. At some point i think it stops becoming about money and becomes about power.

as I say, I have to have a bigger house then you or im poor!

I didn't know in USA that you had you work more than one job to meet your needs. That's no good.
duh, I work for the city, 15 dollars per hour? you wont be able to buy a home on that.

yeah, it's all perspective. These corporate people...think the have to make billions now instead of only mere millions (lol) and what difference would it make. No one can spend that much money.

Well, that's the thing. most people's wives work also to help meet the bills or they couldn't make it, when in reality the wife shouldn't have to work, she works enough at home. Daddy pays the bills, momma keeps the house and kids etc..I was lucky to be self employed while i was married all that time. I didn't make her work outside the home, and when she did choose to, I let her keep her money for herself and even still gave her more money when I could.

Do you need 2 incomes to live a simple life over there ? I mean for housing and food etc not flat screen tv's and hummers etc.

a hummer there isn't for the average American.that is well over 40k.i was pricing cars from here.

the used frontiers are out of my price range.

It depends on what part of the country you live.
Where I live food, utilities, diesel and gas are very high. Rents are not too bad and buying a home is affordable again now that the economy is bad. Wages are low compared to many parts of the country.
Even when I was a little kid I remember the TV ads that all said, "Slightly higher west of the Rockies."
Last pickup we bought we bought in Missouri because the same vehicle here was about 8,000 higher.

Well it would depend on the income of course. I've known people that worked and lived in their van. Not druggies either. not a lot of course, the practical reality is I think that the only people that really get their lights shut off and stuff are people who mismanage their money, mostly druggies.
