christian scientist

Whenever I think of things like this, i tend to simplify it. Do you thing Jesus said go out into the world and spend all your time and resources digging up and killing forests to prove I existed? I think he said something about believing and telling people and faith.

One thing struck me in there about how things are imagined.

ifyour in this thread and are interested in science stuff this might interest you it goes into pointing out how physicists have limited answers:

Michael Talbot - The Holographic Universe (Thinking Allowed)

I did skim read it i read the telepathy thing but ignored it cults usually don't usually last long. Maybe they should be called christian scientologists. I thought these might have been related to the christian scientists that came here on about proving evolution wrong. Thats what their name was. I am a firm believer that with people that go off the rails a bit God will sort them out and it might fizz out like lots of other cults. Check out Breatharians, thats a funny cult. But those guys in your thing sound a bit weird as neibours

I guess the greatest crime I have ever seen any organized thing do is bulldoze a forest to get natural resources to attempt to conduct an experiment to prove God exists or Jesus lived.

Sorry i didnt have long to read it on a meal breakjust like now got to go back to work.... sorry dude

When I saw my first Christian Science store (church?) I was excited. I was like "wow there are Christians who love science, I'd love to check them out!" Well, I was pretty surprised at what I found when I googled them :lol

Thanks you Jesus for being my Protector :muchlove

Christian Science is not a cult. Although, we deeply respect and appreciate Mary Baker Eddy, and her revelation of Christian Science, we do not worship her. She strongly opposed the worshipping of her person and said to those who wish to, that they would find her in her writings.

Yes we are neighbors, since Christian Science is a worldwide religion, we are members of many communities throughout the world. Apparently we are not a cult, as Christian Science has existed for one hundred and thirty-five years already.

The word Science denotes something that can be proved. For example, the Science of Mathematics or the Science of Music. Hence its use in Christian Science - the practice of Christianity and its laws, that can be proved. We do not deny God, but embrace him and his son Jesus Christ. With regard to hell, we believe that the practice of sin creates its own hell, also that sin and sickness are not God sent, and not natural. Furthermore, that they can both be healed through the teachings of Christian Science. There are thousands of athenticated healings on file at the Mother Church in Boston.

Marge, welcome to the forum. I'm hoping you'll return to address some questions, because I've never actually dealt with anyone from Christian Science. It can't be pleasant to hear people call your organization a cult, but I would have to say that it's not biblical at best, and a cult at worst. I'm not sure what having members throughout the world or the fact that it was formed in the late 1800's would preclude it being a cult. I would say the same of Jehovah Witnesses and Mormons who followed a path away from the Truth.

Anytime a founder of a religion claims to have an extra revelation that contradicts scripture, there is reason to walk away. Whether it's Hubble with Scientology, Smith with Mormonism, Russell with Jehovah's Witnesses or others, these departures from biblical Truth start with someone who claims to have their own personal revelation. Here are a few beliefs that are not biblical, and I wonder how members would justify Eddy's doctrinal differences.

Her explanation of Scripture is critical and necessary to interpret scripture. Like a key to a door, one cannot decipher what scripture means without her authority. She claimed that the Bible had hundreds of thousands of errors that only she can satisfactorily address.

Christian Science has replaced the Trinity (Father, Son & Holy Spirit) with "life, truth and love" being the spiritual equivalent. Jesus is not Fully God, but the son of God.
