Christianity is not a religion

Christianity is not a religion. Has any of us heard about this before? Is that something strange? Critical examination of the word of God clarifies that. :readbible

It's a relationship ;)

Furthermore religion is man's quest to find God whereas Christianity is God's quest to find men!

Christianity and religion are used so slanderously and derogatorily these days. Sad.

I prefer to think of myself as a monarchist and I'm waiting for the return of my King.

I personally feel that there is to be no distinction between "religious" and "secular" matters. Everything is to be done for the glory of God, therefore could it not be said that the two are intertwined? Worshippers of idols are religious. They never fail to attend to their symbolic ceremonies and such before going about their day. The Word of the Lord is not to be followed in the manner of a religion; it should be followed as the Truth and way of Life.

Yes, christianity is a religion.
It's a religion to people that go through the steps in an effort to get into heaven, and in the since that it's a "major world religion", but to the people that love and follow Jesus, it's not treated as a religion, it's a relationship with Him.

I look at it this way:

Christianity is the name of my faith that enables me to practice my religion which is best described in James 1:26-27 "If anyone thinks himself to be religious, and yet does not bridle his tongue but deceives his own heart, this man’s religion is worthless. Pure and undefiled religion in the sight of our God and Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their distress, and to keep oneself unstained by the world."

Christians are afraid of the word "religion" because the meaning has been changed by our society, but it is a religion. We can say we aren't "religious" because we're afraid of what that word has come to mean, but a long time ago, there was nothing bad implied by saying you were religious. Personally, I stopped being afraid to use these words quite some time ago. I won't let society change the meanings for me.

Mike, I disagree a bit. While I agree with your interpretation in the Christianity/World scenario. Within the Body, I think religion is always tied into legalism/pharisee-ism and Christians wish to distance themselves from that. Religion has a reputation of being "something you do" to enter heaven and please the Lord. It has a "works" foundation and I think that's truly what many mean when they say, "I'm not religious!" ("I'm not a pharisee!") ;)

Yes, christianity is a religion.

:toofunny wow!!
Where did you go, antirighty, the great soccer star that plays a defensive left wing attacking. I have missed you like soccer itself. You must have gone on pilgrimage. Which one?

it takes a religious person to know a religious belief...dude, christianity isn't one. It is not a man-made religion.

it doesnt matter if religion is man made or not. If the shoe fits, wear it. Christianity fits snugly into a "religion" sized shoe.

There are plenty if you want to dig deep enough. Both are covered in skin, both have bone under the skin, both are part of a living (or once living, we could be talking about a dead persons finger and a dead elephant) thing.

How about this one. Both of them are the result of evolution.

You failed!!:chin The question is 'Is there 'a'...
both are covered in Skin: meaning that Jesus is right when He said 'false prophets shall rise' - and these false prophets are trying to paint Christianity with that paint of Darwin and Religion
--
Both have bone under the skin: and one bone is a lot mightier than the other - and that bone is Jesus of Nazareth - the Son of the most High God - JEHOVAH.
--
both are part of a living: yes - that validates the testimony of God's creation
--
a dead persons finger and a dead elephant: After death...judgement follows.

How about this one. Both of them are the result of evolution: Did you originate from an ape? Why don't people marry apes? :lol

As far as I know there are only three scriptures that mention the word Christian - Acts 11:26; 26:28; 1Peter 4:16 and it all means to be Christ like in all we do and say. Latin root word for religion is bondage, following tradition and the doctrine of a mans church, not Gods true church. Religion tells you what you can and cannot do and becomes socially acceptable by mans interpretations, traditions and doctrines. Religion is what nailed Christ to the cross because this Bible is not socially acceptable to society, if it were then Christ would have died in vain. God is not about mans religion, nor does he recognize religion. God is about a personal relationship with you and His son Jesus Christ.

John 1:1 in the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
John 1:2 the same was in the beginning with God.
John 1:3 all things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.
John 1:4 in him was life; and the life was the light of men.
John 1:5 and the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.

Let's not change definitions just because we feel uncomfortable with the connotations it may bring up in one's mind... A religion is: "a set of beliefs concerning the cause, nature, and purpose of the universe, especially when considered as the creation of a superhuman agency or agencies, usually involving devotional and ritual observances, and often containing a moral code governing the conduct of human affairs." (http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/religion)

Does Christianity answer questions such as "where did we come from" "where did the universe come from" "why are we here" "what happens when we die" etc..? Then it is a religion! BUT, the wonderful and mysterious thing about it is that it is the only religion that offers a personal relationship with the Creator of life!

I've heard that more times than I can count, but it's wrong. By every definition of religion that I've ever seen, Christianity is a religion.
