Covid-19 in Australia

Lockdowns plus other measures have worked in Australia.

Yes, neither of them experienced serious symptoms. My brother was feeling achy one day. He took NyQuil before going to bed and woke up feeling fine. Knowing his girlfriend was positive about a week earlier, he went in and got tested and was positive. His girlfriend never had any symptoms at all. I'm not sure why she was tested at the time so how they learned she had it, I do not know. Her daughter had it as well. She experienced symptoms like my brother along with a low-grade fever and loss of taste and smell. This is typical of this virus. Most people have little to no symptoms at all.

The long lasting effects of Covid-19 are far more damaging than influenza

Masks have been a requirement here since early in the pandemic. Even before our governor ordered them, most local retailers around my area required masks and some wouldn't even allow children under 16. If you refused to wear a mask they'd ask you to leave. I didn't fully understand that requirement though.

Now there's some talk of possibly suggesting double masking. I don't think I could do that. Surprising even to me is that when I wear my mask there are times when I find myself gasping for air. It's subtle but enough to get my attention. I first noticed it while singing hymns in church but now I notice it more. If I double masked, I suspect it would be much worse and given a choice between risking catching Covid or not breathing I guess it's a no-brainer.

Sorry to hear of your health issues. Praying for healing.

I dont believe people should be forced to wear a item on there head, something on there own body, against there own choice if they want to go out in public otherwise they face a penalty.

On a side note, does a woman who wears a burka need to also wear a mask?

That's a shell fish attitude imo kiwi.
I wear a mask in case I infect other people. It's about not taking any chances with this virus. I'm almost certain I don't have the virus. But I also want to show solidarity to others. That we can defeat the virus together. One person refusing to wear a mask is not playing the team game. Such an attitude deserves a penalty imo.
 
If i dont do what other people say i should do and/or believe what they believe i get called shell fish.

There is nothing wrong with wearing a mask, i was only saying i dont believe in forcing things on people against there will or face a penalty, be it something on there body or a belief or religion.

You give your belief on why and then they choose.

so all,this time that n95 and others weren't working but the cdc said so?

When a huge chunk of society wears masks, don't eat out, and stay home. It's pretty hard for a flu virus to spread.

I got the flue around may last year. It was brutal. My state was also pretty lax its restrictions and my plant remained open. Many of my surrounding counties are dealing with the double whammy of flu and covid. Counties that take it serious have had low rates of both.

The counter argument is that there are a lot of things we are required to do or face a penalty. Seatbelts, helmets in some cases, stealing, assaulting others, and so on.

There were those that felt it was too much when businesses required masks to enter their establishment. But then, most businesses around here won't serve you if you enter without a shirt or shoes.

I,dont,however ,if a judge does 90 in 50 ,or wont wear a seatbelt ,parks the wrong way,or drives while drunk ,nothing happens ,same with politiciahs ,can't ask and also be willing to abide your self .

see the apologies given by those who mandate it versus those citizens who did they same thing who were jailed and or fined

This is correct. But, it is also possible to do those things and still not spread it. Social distancing, if practices religiously, is probably our best defense. What would that look like? Staying home unless it is absolutely necessary and wait until you can get everything done in one trip rather than taking those short quick trips. When you do go make sure to keep your distance from others always. Don't visit your neighbors unless you remain outside and keep your distance. Wash your hands regularly and don't touch your face just in case you touched something that had the living virus on it.

I see the CDC has changed their mask recommendation. Here's what it says now...

CDC recommends that people wear masks in public settings, at events and gatherings, and anywhere they will be around other people.

Here's what it said before.

Just so you know, I am not trying to wage an argument. Just showing what the counter arguments are that are used.
 
I personally think that I am mature enough and fully capable of protecting others by keeping my distance. I wear the mask because it is required but I do not think it makes any difference in my case because I would be able to socially distance to protect others and myself without government intervention. Apparently, there are a lot of people that need some authoritative figure to tell them what to do because they aren't capable of doing it themselves.
