Covid-19 in Australia

Just so you know, I am not trying to wage an argument. Just showing what the counter arguments are that are used.
i know both ,as i had arresting power as an,nco on title 10 and had to enforce standards .I hated being told not to do and the very officer asking (ordering )us goes and does that thing we weren't,allowed .

it grates me to see those types.I wasn't perfect ,but i strived not to be that way

if the law mandated a seat belt, but didn't verify it actually worked ,would you wear one that wouldnt stay latched or had tears?

the Canadian cdc says clothes masked don't work ,fauci said we should wear two cloth masks .

who are you to say you are important to need water and so forth while putting others at risk to provide it ?

When a huge chunk of society wears masks, don't eat out, and stay home. It's pretty hard for a flu virus to spread.
I agree. But do you think it should be mandatory or just advice and a recomendation.

Wearing masks, social distancing, staying home, like you said would be hard for a virus to spread. They are good practices.

It just seems that those who dont agree with something being mandatory or some rules that dont make sense they seem to get looked at like they just dont care and are selfish and irrisponsible when its not nessesarily the case.

Would it be logical for me to wear a mandatory mask when im driving by myself in a vehicle?.

In a store it would be as there is other people around so it make sense to wear a mask.

I do think there needs to be a mandatory mask mandate in the states for when people are in groups outside their household. Not necessarily when they are alone in their personal vehicle. I think there should be enforced capacity and social distancing in public places. That mixed with the state having review periods where restriction are reevaluated and lifted when goals are met.

What I have observed is that the drama in the US cokes mostly from the precautions being politicized by Republicans and democrats. I hate having to wear a mask everywhere and use drive through for everything. I just want this over.

Libertarian thinking re masks ......it's hard to fathom imo
I have found there are 3 types of libertarians. Right wing that want to run their business and family their way, left wing that want socially to be more free, and then there is just the peeps that haven't gotten passed kindergarden mentality.

its not going away .

masks were worn for the far more deadly Spanish flu.I have got that twice in the army in,1994.

it came from soldiers deployed to third world nations.a few died from it .our abilities to handle the flu in 94 are much better .

the big issue with mask mandates and social distancing is the double standards .

my job requires a mask if outside your normal group ,but well most rooms in,city hall share a central a.c. system ,thus why bother ?

that's more of a poor thought out decision .

I think that's a big part of the problem. Hypocrisy and poorly thought out mandates and such.
  • Requiring masks outdoors where the virus doesn't spread easily.
  • Locking down a business' outdoor seating while allowing outdoor seating for another business in the adjacent lot.
  • Limiting seating in an outdoor church service to 12 people while allowing casinos to operate at 50% capacity indoors.
  • Today, my daughter and wife took me out for dinner for my birthday. We went to a place called Pizza Ranch which is a self-service buffet style restaurant. They no longer put salt and pepper shakers on the tables because they would have to disinfect them after each customer, but when getting food from the buffet all customers are using the same serving utensils without having them get disinfected between. Plates are also provided in a stack so you potentially touch others while lifting one off and this adds potential risk.
  • Some convenience stores don't allow customers to bring in their own travel cups but require using the cups they provide. The idea is to minimize the potential risk for Covid, but many times it is impossible to obtain one cup from the stack without using your other hand to hold the stack. So now you've touched multiple cup rims potentially infecting them with the virus if your hands were infected. Same is true with the cup lids. If I bring my own cup I don't touch anything except the dispenser, which is done either way, so the risk is lower.
I could go on for I see the hypocrisy and poor judgment everywhere. It makes it very difficult to head the recommendations when there's little consistency or they don't make sense.

Here in south louisiana the stores say masks are required but no one wears them. There are large family gatherings with no one wearing masks or social distancing. I don’t think my father in law even believes the coronavirus is real. I wish I lived somewhere else right now.

That might partly answer some of wip's disbelief that America has such widespread covid infection.

I never said I disbelieved that America has widespread infection. Where did you get that impression? I question the response. There is a huge difference.

In addition to those poorly thought out mandates is the hypocrisy that has shown its ugly head. In addition to the church limitations and outdoor dining lockdown examples I already shared, here are a couple more.

Just like here in MN, California ordered lock downs including cosmetology salons. This is because of how close cosmetologists have to work with their clients and our hair style is not essential to life.
  • Despite this, the majority leader of the United States House of Representatives, who lives in CA and was very actively criticizing the standing president for what she felt was his lack of response to the virus, arranged an appointment at a locked down hair stylist to have her hair done. Do as I say, not as I do. Is she above the law? Is she incapable of spreading the virus? That is hypocrisy at its finest.
  • The state of Illinois had also ordered lock downs that included cosmetology salons. Despite this, the mayor of Chicago arranged a hair appointment with a stylist whos business was included in the lock down. She defended her actions saying, “I’m the public face of this city. I’m on national media and I’m out in the public eye.” The mayor added that the public is more concerned with other issues. “I think what really people want to talk about is, we’re talking about people dying here. We’re talking about significant health disparities. I think that’s what people care most about,” Lightfoot said. People are dying because they are getting infected with the virus. That doesn't happen unless people pass the virus to others by not social distancing, which is why the salons were locked down. Do as I say, not as I do. Is she above the law? Her response to being called out on it was an insult to everyone in the city of Chicago because she basically said that she was more important than anyone else. That statement should have been political suicide. Hypocrisy at its finest. (Quoted portions from Wilson Wong, NBC News, April 11, 2020.)

If anyone is interested, I stumbled on this video today that points out some of the hypocrisy that makes it difficult to get behind and support what our supposed leaders are telling us. I find John Stossel to be pretty balanced in his reporting. What I mean is that I don't see him siding with left or right specifically. You'll even see that in this video.

So you have been under a stay at home order since March give or take? Is that for the entire country? Here it isn't an order but it is highly recommended so it is left up to us to do the right thing, I guess.
New Zealand is pressuring Australia to follow its lead in order to facilitate normalizing travel between the two. Humidity plays a role in transmission of the virus outdoors as does temperature, wind and direct sunlight.
