You're merely trying to play a game of semantics to make something out of nothing. I suggest that you do a search on "nation" in the OT.

Please understand what a Biblical "nation" means. It is not the nation of the United States or the nation of Russia, as in a country. The nation of Israel are His people.....all twelve tribes. There is a present nation of Israel that was founded in 1949.

There was NO Jewish nation at that time.

You have proven that you have absolutely no idea what you're talking about.

Finis,
Eric

There has NEVER BEEN A JEWISH NATION before 1949. The Biblical nation of Israel (not all Jews) represent God's people...now called Christian and their brother tribes the Jews. The house of Judah and the house of Israel make up all of Israel. Only the house of Judah are Jews.

So, this is just a game of semantics then. Regardless of how you want to look at it, my point still stands.

No Free...it is no game. I'm trying to show you who Israel is. It is NOT the present day nation of Israel. Standing on a point and not trying to understand isn't productive. Is it a salvation issue? I don't think so but it sure brings more understanding of Scripture.

The point is this: the verse in question, within the context of the chapter and book it is found in, is regarding God's impending judgment against his chosen people. Nothing more. You've ignored this point and instead chosen to pursue my use of the word nation which, although biblical, you are turning into a game of semantics. But that isn't even the real issue.

Point still stands???????????

DO you know how ignorant of a comment this is???????????????????????????????????

Death is death and Israel is Israel--the Jewish nation at that time which was coming under God's judgment, as verses 13-15 make very clear.

Israel is the Jewish Nation???????? Nonsense

Ah, that's what it was. Wasn't paying attention.

In any case, this evasion game only reinforces the majority sentiment here that the OP is nonsense.

'Jew' can be used interchangeably with 'Israelite'. I see no reason why it cannot be. In fact, it is all the time in scholarly literature.

Anyway, none of that addresses Free's original point. You guys refuse to address it for obvious reasons.

I dont understand how your scriptures proves that WW doesnt know what she is talking about....

You do understand the differance in Israel and Jew right??????

Off the bat I can tell you that there is not many that understand the split that took place........

Pshh, please.

I mistook the OP to be saying something else, which I have now recognized. The original point stands, first raised by Vic and then Free. The passage is about the historical nation of Israel and has nothing to do with 'Death' being one the devil's alternate handles or any other of the crap in the OP.

THe term "Jew" comes from the house of Judah not the nation of Israel.....YOu might wanna go back and look at 1 Kings.....

What would you like me to address??????

I have already stated how I see it......

That's an etymological fallacy. Where a word comes from has nothing to do with how its used, and 'Jew' became a general designation for any 'Israelite' after the exile, through intertestamental and New Testament times, right up to the present day.

Anyway, this is all a dodge of the point. The passage says nothing about 'Death' being one of Satan's handles, or anything else the OP fancies it says.

Yeah right dude,,,,,They havent said much of anything,,,Free just agrees with Vic because to topic is out of range...None of them have answered WW questions.....None of you seem to undestand the split that took place in 1 kings seperating the 10 north tribes from the Jews (aka Benjamin and Judah)

And you a non-christian giving advice on christian matters......which is a joke in itself.....

Yeah, he is. The nonsense of linking completely unrelated passages to make them say something they don't is ridiculous around here. I like the phrase "Scriptural hopscotch" - I think that sums it up nicely. The irony of it all is that the ones who do this blow the "hermeneutic trumpet" at everyone else that don't see it there way! Some of the hermeneutic techniques around here are laughable, yet they are the ones who have it "right". :screwloose

I love the arrogance on this board. "No one knows anything because no one agrees with my ridiculous interpretation of Scripture!" Wow. :clap

Yeah, okay. Believe what you want to believe. You're perfectly free to keep your head buried in the sand...makes my job a lot easier. What you think you know about the history of tribes is a tangent that doesn't relate in the least to the content of the OP.

And this is going to sound arrogant and very prickish, but it's going to be the truth: I know far more about Old Testament history than you do. So any time you would like to discuss it, make a thread and let me know, and I'll have no problem entering it and dismantling everything you say in it. (which is likely to be wrong)

What is ridicoulus????

satan being known as death???????????

or

The house of Judah coming out of Babylon and becoming known as the Jews??????

NOw if one does not agree,,,,, one of satan's titles is death there most likely biblically slow,,,if one doesnt agree that Jew is refering to the House of Judah and not the 10 northern tribes that became known as caucasians ,,,then there biblically and historically ignorant......present your case.......

First off, I don't like your tone and the disrespect you show toward the other posters. It either stops ot I put a stop to it. Too many members and Staff are complaining about it. :grumpy

Next, WW's questions have been answered. The problem is, the question(s) are stacked and any answer other than the one(s) acceptable to her are unacceptable. Her answers can't be properly answered if you and her continue to rummage through scripture playing "common threads" with verses that have nothing to do with each other from a theological or doctrinal POV.

This is not proper Biblical exegesis. What you two (and some others here) are doing here would be well suited for a philosophical discussion. Unfortunately this is not a Philosophy forum. I want to read fruitful discussions on theology and doctrines, not someone's "concept".

On the lighter side, thank you Free, Eric, Drew, Todd, etc. for keeping this real and pertinent to the passage at hand. :yes

Free....We are His chosen people. That is the issue. The "impending judgment" is against us. Death comes into OUR windows. This is a warning to us.

Eric, having the ability to read the words contained in the Bible is one thing that Christians and non-Christians have in common. Knowing the Words, understanding the Words, is another. You have one of these abilities.
