And somehow the Spirit isn't leading the people that I happen to quote... :confused

Maybe...maybe not. There are many revered MEN that teach us we will be raptured away, that we should do all sorts of things (don't want to step on denominational toes) but...you get the idea. I understand exactly what He told us and that was to....take heed follow no man. We are taught the milk of the Word by man and then....we allow Him to teach us.

[quote:32p69t77]

One part of that is certainly good to hear however...not all. It is written to us Todd. Are we not His children?
Yeah, we are His children. And I already told you that my view was not affected one way or another by his post...so does that now make me wrong just because a non-Christian agreed w/ me?[/quote:32p69t77]

That depends upon what you agree upon. :D If it has to do with the understanding of His Word then I would tread very carefully.

Bah...you posted while I was typing Vic.

I don't see where death and legion are attributed to Satan himself. :confused

Okay. They have nothing to do with Satan. Yes, I'm sure you're right and seeing the big picture here. As it isn't Satan...I wonder just who those evil, wicked, so strong they can't be contained in chains....unclean spirits are associated with? :confused

Come on Vic.

Forget that I said that. Satan is life and joy and eternal happiness. :-) He isn't really death, he isn't evil. He's a really nice guy. :yes

This is a simple question whirlwind. Do you or do you not have Scripture to support that Satan is called Death and Legion?

Here is a simple answer Free. I'm not blind nor deaf as one would have to be to not see what is written or taught in those verses. I believe you see it and are simply being to stubborn to admit it. Unless of course this applies to you..... :seehearspeak And, I don't believe it does. Believe whatever you wish.

You had previously stated: "Satan, death, dragon, leviathan, serpent, anti-christ, deceiver, legion, accuser, devil, beast, rock, morning star, and on and on and on."

Here is a verse that clearly calls Satan a dragon and serpent:

Rev 20:2, 2 And he seized the dragon, that ancient serpent, who is the devil and Satan, and bound him for a thousand years,

All I am asking for is support for your assertion that Satan is also called Death and Legion.

I don't know if you are simply having a bad day, want to be argumentative or...what. :confused The point is Satan has many names...his name is legion. You are missing a big part of the sheer magnitude and beauty of His Word if you just see the letter, if you just see each verse as being separate from the others.

  • 2 Timothy 3:16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:

It is not what "I want it to say" but what He tells us.

Satan, death, dragon, leviathan, serpent, anti-christ, deceiver, legion, accuser, devil, beast, rock, morning star, and on and on and on.
I'm not having a bad day and I'm not trying to be argumentative, but I am concerned when it comes to proper biblical interpretation.

You have ignored myself, Free, Vic, and others that have asked you to show us where Death is a handle for Satan. You're not saying what the Word says like you claim to be. You keep saying "it's what the Word says"...WHERE?!?!? Show me WHERE it says that Satan is Death?? What textual reason do you have for asserting the rider on the pale horse as Satan? If you're going to do this, then be consistent w/ how you interpret death...

Satan has the POWER of death (Heb. 2:14), but he's not called "death". Are you going to say that "sin" is a handle for Satan too?

When Paul says in 2 Cor. 4:12 that death is at work in us, is he saying that Satan is at work in them?

And Legion is not Satan, they are demons. Demons and Satan are not the same person. Yes, Satan is the "chief demon", but to say that Legion is Satan is another assertion that the text doesn't allow.

Dear Todd, Free and Vic...and others, :wave

If you wish to find a verse that writes out for us...Satan is an evil demon. Satan is death. Satan is Legion then you won't find it. But...none of you are six years old...are you? You have a brain, you are a believer and I would assume that the Spirit indwells you and leads you into understanding. Please ask Him to help you put this confusing Biblical mystery together for you. Who could death, hell, and legion be? :chin

Well, that pretty much sums it up then. There is no biblical support for your interpretation of Jer 9:21.

That could be or....it could be someone has NO spiritual discernment. Take your pick...I have. :-)

The main function of a window is for light.

Jesus is the light/window of the world.

Through death, Jesus destroyed him who had the power of death, that is the devil.

Death came into our Window.

He who knew no sin ( and death ) was made to be sin ( and death ) for us...

We are always bearing about in the body the dying ( death ) of the Lord Jesus, that his life ( light/window ) may be made manifested to others.

You can't just chalk something up to spiritual discernment just because YOU like it. What you're essentially saying is that YOUR spiritual discernment is the final authority and not what the Bible actually says. This has been my concern throughout the entire thread. If the Bible gives you no room to warrant such a claim, then it should be dismissed.

And now you're saying that Satan is also called "hell"?!?! How can Satan be cast into himself?? You see the logical fallacies that you're committing? And please don't say "that's what the Word says" because it doesn't and you've proved several times that the Word doesn't say it.

I hope you don't take this offensively, but I will dig in my heels if someone is mishandling the precious Word of God. If you did a word study on death, sin, Satan, hell, etc. and tried to make them all be the same person or thing, then Scripture would read very differently.

Yes, the window is to let the Light in. But when death comes up into our windows it obliterates the Light. It cuts off the children and young men if we allow it. :verysad Part of that, to me, would be to recognize what that death is.

Dig in and ask Him for understanding Todd. Ask Him to open your eyes and ears. He is now opening mine. They aren't yet fully open but I am seeing so many wonderful things. I am so looking forward to this next year and how ever much time He allows me to learn. This is available to you too.

1) Of course they are not literal horses,,,would you like a lesson on horses of the bible??????????

2) Yes death follows satan,,,if you follow satan he will lead you to your ultimate death (blotted out)
and since death follows satan,,death has become another name for satan.....Just like "tree of life",,or life giver is another name for Christ because he brings life....seriously,,,I know children that understand this....

But how about answering my one simple question....

Who is the "HE" on the horse??????????????????
I answered your question before it was even asked and my answer has not changed--the "rider" of the "horse" is the personification of death. You have already addressed my answer so why are you asking me to answer it again?

Now, how is it that you don't believe the horses are literal but you believe that there is a literal rider? How does a literal being ride a non-literal horse?

Who do you say the "HE" on the horse is? The Bible says Death, not Satan, so you can't answer Satan.

The Bible says Death, not Satan, so you can't answer Satan

anyhow

Lets throw a twist in it .....

Is Melchizedek Chrsit ?????????????????????????????????????????????

If you allow it ,,,,,,if you allow death (satan) he will obliterate light (Christ) in your life.....

If you allow him he will kill you and you will be blotted out.......

If you allow it,,,,,,,did you not catch that part????????????

There is not 1 person on this forum I know of who thinks satan will obliterate Jesus,,,what a weak attempt........

If Scripture wanted to identify the rider "death" with Satan, then it would have.

Todd you might wanna edit this comment......

Basically what your saying is that if is not in plain view then its not there.........

But by using this logic you cannot explain eyes to see or ears to hear.....

It really sounds like you have to read in your bible that the sky is blue or water is wet to believe it.....

I ask you the same question that was asked to Free......

Is Christ Melkizedek ?????????????

No. But let's stick to the topic

Getting back to the heart of things:

1. It is self-evident that one way to read the text at issue is as a statement of judgement against Israel. I suspect no one would dispute this.

2. It seems that the real question is whether there is a "second-meaning" over and above the specificity of the judgement about Israel;

3. What specific evidence is there for this? I suggest that an argument along the lines "it could be read such and such a way" is not a very good argument. Consider the cases in the Old Testament where God orders the annihilation of an entire people. One could read such instructions as having a "hidden" second meaning - that Christians shoud annihilate, say, the French. Any second meaning is possible, but one really needs to go further than mere possibilities to make the case for a second meaning. So what evidence is there to see this text from Jeremoiah as being anything beyond a judgement against Israel. The "we are Israel" argument does not work, since one could that same line of think to say that we Christians, in our role as Israel, should build the ark of the covenant. The "we are Israel" argument is way too broad.
Agreed.
