For religious purposes not weight loss purposes.

I'm definitely aware of it in Islam for Ramadan but I feel like for Christians it is more personal rather than a set ritual?

Curious to see how people practice this if they do.

No. No longer a requirement for Christians Prim. But if one chooses to fast for the right reasons it is pleasing to God. Ac 13:2 And as they ministered to the Lord, and fasted, the Holy Spirit said, Separate me Barnabas and Saul for the work whereunto I have called them. Ac 14:23 And when they had appointed for them elders in every church, and had prayed with fasting, they commended them to the Lord, on whom they had believed.

for me anyway, fasting is much more than abstaining from eating for a day. as in the manner of Isaiah 53:3-10; but of course the rest of the chapter God makes known the results of true fasting. Again, for me, to fast is to "go without"; you may say, Go without what? namely our selfish desires, that we may esteem others needs: it may be fasting without your hand held device; or without other typical distractions that make up your daily things for self, apart from necessities: go without such things that represent conformity to this world, and the course of this world.
As for the Islam fast, for me it is not a fast, but merely changing the time in which to eat, and nothing more: for a true fast from eating would be from the time we wake up in the morning until the next day when we awaken; but to merely change the time in which we eat from day to night is of none effect concerning any sacrifice.
As for ceremonies, and rituals, and formalism; they cannot take away sin! but only repentance.

The Jews, or so I read, had a habit of fasting twice a week; the equivalent of our Tuesdays and Thursdays, if I recall correctly.

I say it because I actually quite admire those who can maintain a fasted lifestyle. I have done several fasts. I started out doing a five day when I was in college, then several week-long fasts and some three-day fasts. Then I did a two-week fast later in my Christian walk, and about 4 years ago I did a forty day fast that quite honestly I don't know how I succeeded at completing. The grace of God was on it. But I have since tried to repeat it several times to no avail. I've done four ten day fasts in a row without being able to get passed that point, but I'll likely be able to do it again some day if the grace of God is with me again.

But I love eating, and I'm truly hoping that I can get to a more fasted lifestyle at some point by the end of this year, because I'm just getting too heavy. But you have to REALLY focus your life on it to have any success at fasting, IMO, and I believe prayer is an important precursor to any successful attempt.

In the last years I have fasted at He requested of me before engaging in spiritual warfare. "Fast to undo bonds" as it were.
