hmmm....this is a good question. I think any time you overlook or straight up ignore Scripture in favor of man made doctrine, you've fallen into serious error. Its like...if I get so taken with RC Sproul and his Calvinism that I lose sight of Christ, and Him Crucified, that...to me...is sort of "easy believism," because I'm so taken with man made doctrine to save me that I lose sight of The Savior.
I kind of suspect some parts of the Southern Baptsists, especially the bigger churches, lend themselves well to what most people are thinking of when they speak of "Easy believeism," because of their traditional emphasis on OSAS. I'm -not- trying to bring up another OSAS debate, but I do think that in the 21st century, OSAS can slip into hyper-grace more easily than in years past. I'm not trying to knock OSAS or the SBC, its just...21st century American culture+OSAS=problems, especially (it seems...) at megachurches. Just an observation.
The Pentecostals are awesome because of their emphasis on Holiness, etc., but 21st century Pentecostals also emphasize the emotional aspects of belief and conversion so much that....I find it a bit disconcerting, to be honest. I -love- the Pentecostals because of their fervor and the work they do in the world, but...sometimes, being in a Pentecostal church...I feel as if its more about psychological manipulation (soft lighting, carefully selected music, etc.) to "bring people to Christ" than it is about truly facilitating The Lord's work in peoples' lives. But, then again....what's the alternative?
