Gday

I was recently reading a fiction novel about the underground railroad in the 1800's.Have you heard of that?It was very secretive.People would smuggle the slaves into Canada where they would then be free.
yes, but that was primarily the north, not Canada.

Kathi, I've read a similar article, but I believe it was actually true. Not as in actually underground, but a covert operation to free the poor souls who had been enslaved. Maybe Farouk or someone from the US can clear that up for me / uss?

I've read about the underground railroad. I read up on the civil war in 10th grade, and I knew about the underground railroad before that. In a museum up in New York, they had a map on houses that were either confirmed as locations used in the underground railroad, or rumored to be.

Yes,it is true.Yes,they called it the "Underground railroad" because whoever was transporting them had to be very careful and hide the slaves.Their were many guards who would be looking for these wagons who were hiding the slaves. If they caught them they would send the slaves back to their owners and on many occasions whipped and/or killed.

Agua,
I'm a west Aussie but have lived in Thailand for the last 8 years
Aussie rules, but have a lot of time for league especially SOO
Ford man until the Lord takes me ( owned and rebuilt an XBGT (460 big block) coupe and XBGT 4 door full original resto)
Most beautiful state West oz but QLD and TASSIE both have their strong points

I will never ever have another Ford as long as I live.Had a Ford Taurus once.It was a nightmare.I would be going down the freeway and all of a sudden all the dashboard lights would go out.I then had about 2 seconds to get over to the side because it was done. That also happened on a bridge....that was fun. :hips I must have had that stupid thing in the shop once a week. They never did find out what was wrong with it.

Jason, yes Ford Motor Company
Holden is the Australian arm of GM. Very strong rivalries and loyalties but as Agua has stated, after nearly 100 years, the CEO's in the US have decided loyalty to Oz is no longer required.

Note: Your Pontiac GTOs a few years ago (early 2000s) were actually Holden Monaros which were built in Oz, converted to LHD and re-badged.
Also the pick up truck that is so popular in America is called a Ute in Oz (short for utility vehicle) It was an Aussie invention and wait for it, was thought up by a farmer's WIFE. She wrote to ford motor company asking if it was possible for them to come up with a vehicle suitable for taking stock to market during the week and take the family to church on Sundays. The first one If I recall rightly was based on a 1932 Ford Vicky (Victoria)

Farouk, ALL of the states were in existence at the beginning of the century. The exception is the ACT (Australian capital territory) where th evil-doers who destroy run the country are ensconced.

I think the status of Northern Territory is a bit different, right? I'd love to visit Australia one day, and NZ, too.

Blessings.

If it's Heard he went a loooong way to realize his dream and he trespassed into Aussie waters to do it....I shall inform the appropriate authorities and demand the safe return of an Aussie fish.:biggrin2

Blessings.
