Hello!

That sentiment is not representative of evolutionists and atheists, Dawkins is extreme. Evil is not a word to use. Stupid is kinda rude, but maybe describes some people well like Ken Ham. He should have added another possibility: honestly mistaken.

Disagree. Telling someone, "I know what you believe, and you don't know what you believe" or "and it's not what you think you believe" is highly arrogant. That's it. What if I told you, "Andy, I know you don't believe in God, even though you think you do." I would not say something like that to someone ever.

I often hear this from Christians but what does it mean?
If you don't know what being born again means then it sounds like you are not a Christian. I say that with some trepidation for fear of being accused of being arrogant.

I mean, what do you mean by how religion has nothing to do with being born again?

Just a comment along.
Go to Wikipedia and look up:
Loop of Henley in our kidneys. You should see a snake mounted on a pole. Our body was made to get rid of junk.

God does not like sin and cast Satan out of heaven.

I’m a clinical scientist so that’s not news but that’s for the comment for those not educated in physiology. I do have a thought, if Adam was made with he same kidney function from day 1, what junk was he trying to get rid of?

Something to consider: The term “born again” was used by Jesus exactly once and to one man alone, That’s it. But it’s become in some churches JARGON and it’s possible a man might be a deeply devoted true follower of Jesus and not know the anglo-american jargon. Christians in those circles have developed special terms only they understand.

Now TE is not a believer anymore but has nevertheless extensive bible knowledge. He really thinks about these things including thinking about words. He essentially asked you what you mean when you use the jargon “born again” which might challenge you. Your answer is a bit like, uh oh, if you don’t know the jargon, you are likely not one of us.

Just explain what he asked. Btw, on a side note. At 16 I asked a friend what “saved” means and while she was explaining it, I knew it had already happened to me long ago. She probably thought I was unsaved because I didn’t know the jargon.

Revelation 13:8 kjv
8. And all that dwell upon the earth shall worship him, whose names are not written in the book of life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world.

Takes a little more reading around the verse.

The Godhead knew that down the road there was going to be a need to deal with sin from creation. Same answer to why an immune system in general. Why the sacrificial lamb before The Lamb of God was manifest. Hidden from the foundation of the world. Seed had a hidden mystery.

25? Years ago an A&P high school teacher I met, told me how in cell replication it looks for errors and sets the errors aside. Some books of the Bible have been set aside,

Seed = Word of God
Ground mens hearts

IMHO kidneys deal with cell trash. Jesus deals with sin.
Looking to the one on the tree / cross deals with our
Trash / Sin. The people bitten by snakes lived if they looked on the brazen serpent in the wilderness. It was never ultimately about the brazen serpent but about lookin to Jesus.

Fill me in on some good A&P facts,

You didn’t answer my question. The kidneys actually don’t do major elimination of waste. They only release water and trace bits by absorbing back all that is good. Your analogy leaves something to be desired physiologically. The guy eliminates waste by the same process of absorbing the good and leaving the rest. Kidneys and gut filter out the good and the waste moves along.

This is where I am pushed to be a bit critical of my fellow Christians but I think you’ll identify what kind I mean. This likely cannot be said of those who have a Christianity where they assume they are always on the receiving end. There are those who think and teach that all God wants is to spend time with them, bless them, make their lives better. They are not co-laborers with God as they don’t labor at all. Theirs is a “free grace” relieving them of all labor.
Not sure who teaches you this stuff, but God assuredly wants us to fellowship with Him and He certainly wants to bless us as our lives are better with God and His Son Christ Jesus and we are laborers of the harvest.

1Corinthians 1:9 God is faithful, by whom ye were called unto the fellowship of his Son Jesus Christ our Lord.

1John 1:3 That which we have seen and heard declare we unto you, that ye also may have fellowship with us: and truly our fellowship is with the Father, and with his Son Jesus Christ.

Mat 9:37 Then saith he unto his disciples, The harvest truly is plenteous, but the labourers are few;
Mat 9:38 Pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he will send forth labourers into his harvest.

Rom 8:14 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.
Rom 8:15 For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father.
Rom 8:16 The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God:
Rom 8:17 And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together.

Going to move this over to the Theology thread as this forum is for new member introductions and we have moved past that.

I often hear this from Christians but what does it mean?
This is what is meant by being born again. I hope it helps.

SALVATION – delivered from sin, promise of our welfare brought about by faith in Christ Jesus.

Salvation means to be whole mind, body and soul as we surrender our will to God and allow his will to work in our lives by applying Gods word to every aspect of our lives. This allows us to know the mind of Christ and all the promises of God for our own well being so we can face anything that tries to come against us while here on this earth so we can triumph and be victorious through the grace and mercy of our Lord and Savior Christ Jesus. Grace pardons us and mercy loves us unconditionally. Let’s start with the conversation of Jesus and Nicodemus to get a better understanding of what it is to be born again and how to shed this old sin nature through repentance and then we will move on to learn how grace and mercy works in our lives.
(John 3:1-7)

Jesus was teaching Nicodemus that it was a Spiritual rebirth or renewal of our spirit that through Gods spoken word we can reconcile our past sins through repentance to be made sinless again before God. We are all born with a sin nature because of sin being introduced into the world through Satan’s deceit when he told Eve it was alright to eat from the tree of knowledge of good and evil even though God forbid them to eat of it. Our flesh will always sin because the flesh is never in obedience to God.
(John 9:31, Romans 8:6-8)

Sin separates us from God because God is a spirit and can only recognize his own children by what spirit is living in their hearts. We have to renew, rebirth - born again, Gods Spirit within us in order to be called a child of God and see the kingdom of heaven. We now put off the old man (flesh) and put on the new man (Spirit). We are renewed by the word of God and through the Holy Spirit teaching us of all things.

John 14:26 But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.
(Colossians 3:1-17)

We now have an intercessor (Jesus) who sits at the right hand of the Father and hears our confession that we are sinners and need his salvation as we believe in our heart that he was truly sent from God as the living word that we can indeed become righteous again not of our own righteousness, but that righteousness that is God whom through his Spirit is promised to dwell in us. All we have to do is believe and confess that we are sinners and allow Gods righteousness to cleanse us and renew our spirit man. Jesus wants us to come as we are and allow him to make the changes that need made in our hearts. People want to clean the fish before they catch them, but Jesus says come as you are I will clean you from the inside out.
(Romans 10:9; Romans 10:9-10; John 1:14; John 14:6)

It is not by our works or good deeds that save us for if that was all it would take then Gods word would be made void in our lives and Jesus would have died in vain, but because we are all sinners, it is by Gods grace and mercy that forgives our sins and washes us clean by the atoning blood of the Lamb (Jesus) so we can be made renewed again and free from our old sin nature.
(Ephesians 2:8-9; Titus 3:5-7)

I think some teachers feel they are to live a personal life of benefits.
Not everyone’s calling is the same.
Romans 8:36 kjv
36. As it is written, For thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter.

To help baby Christians grow to maturity, to help those not called into I’ll ministry, to deliver those under oppression we were given
Spiritual gifts.

To manage our lives he has given us the quickening spirit Jesus became. Christ in us. There is a difference in Christ in us and the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit was so we could be witnesses.

And I do not even think I have got the flesh totally under control. Paul said he was a wretched man. His mind is where he served God. Heart of flesh, that is what we get. Law in or heart ( not stony heart but compassion).

At the last trump there are still
Changes to come.

Ok I said it. I am really fishing for the difference between the Holy Spirit and the quickening Spirit Christ became. I will listen if you say they are the same. Revelation 3:20 is Christ coming inside us.

Lay it on me. LOL

Please show me the scripture where this is what He wants. The verb “wants”applied to the noun “God”needs to be there. And what is required or if nothing at all is required would be nice.
1Corinthians 1:9 God is faithful, by whom ye were called unto the fellowship of his Son Jesus Christ our Lord.
No mention of Him wanting to fellowship with us.
1John 1:3 That which we have seen and heard declare we unto you, that ye also may have fellowship with us: and truly our fellowship is with the Father, and with his Son Jesus Christ.
“Fellowship with us” refers to the believers fellowship with the author. In The second part, John is saying that he has fellowship with God as do the recipients of the letter. Now, he does not writes that God wants to fellowship with them, but of course, it can be assumed. Nevertheless it is easier to assume the John wants it. Stating it is is not making that a goal of God as though that’s all he wants.

Whether we are laborers depend upon what we do because “labor” mean WORK. If we do not work(s) as He is working or directing, we are not laboring with him. Logical.

Now as to blessings, yes of course, but that not the primary goal as indicated in the scripture you quote below regarding suffering. A suffering life is pretty far from blessed as we expect it to be. For those unfamiliar with scripture here is what God wants in a nutshell

He has shown you, o man, what is good and what the Lord requires of you, that you justly (by others) and love mercy (towards others) and that you walk humbly with your God (him, the only real one you can walk with.) Micah 6:8 (from memory so no bold colors as it’s not copy/paste. It’s instead lived out.
Mat 9:37 Then saith he unto his disciples, The harvest truly is plenteous, but the labourers are few;
Mat 9:38 Pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he will send forth labourers into his harvest.

Rom 8:14 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.
Ah, a condition, must be led by the Holy Spirit. Isn’t that a “work?”
“Spirit bears witness with our spirit” means one who has the Holy Spirit has that inner witness that one is a child of God. There is no “not sure if you are saved” and no reciting aloud a detached scripture to convince yourself you are. Those who aren’t sure, aren’t saved, according to this scripture. Doesn’t guarantee those who convinced themselves they are, therefore are, but it does clarify our answer to the unsure. You aren’t as you haven’t what John describes.

If the reader listens carefully to the songs and likely sermon in church tomorrow, they will detect that they are being taught that essentially God’s world seems to revolve around you and your happiness. Your pride and self love will be marvelously fed. Maybe your church is different, but this seems to be the common message.

God wants us to walk with Him treating others as Jesus did which, is the only way he will walk with you in any degree on closeness. What fellowship hath light with darkness. (I use KJV so it’s clear I’m quoting the Bible.)

Now I realize that the word fellowship is not present in this quote.
Revelation 3:20 kjv
20. Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.

If Revelation 3:20 is considered in only a certain time period, show me the scripture that says that.

Sounds like fellowship to me.
We bring the sacrifice of praise that Jesus deserves.
We drink his blood and eat his flesh / body.

Having a meal is spiritual food ( not by bread alone, but every word that precedes out of the mouth if God.

Pretty good choice!

Of course I didn’t say God doesn’t want our fellowship but for two fellows to do so they must be in the same ship. He’s not changing, we must.

That was written to the churches as I recall but it’s not limited to a time.

A “sacrifice of saying words of praise” isn’t much of a sacrifice, frankly speaking. What is the speaker sacrificing? Now a sacrifice of obeying God, that’s something He values for obvious reasons.

Hebrews 13:15 kjv
15. By him therefore let us offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually, that is, the fruit of our lips giving thanks to his name.
16. But to do good and to communicate forget not: for with such sacrifices God is well pleased.

Psalms 116:17 kjv
17. I will offer to thee the sacrifice of thanksgiving, and will call upon the name of the LORD.

Some folks want credit for wnat they do, and it is a sacrifice for them to give credit to someone else.

Notice the “to DO good” is there. And the praise MUST be continuous. With doing good and continually thanking Him, He is well-pleased. See what I mean? Praising CONTINUALLY is a sacrifice. Praise now and again saying words isn’t.
Psalms 116:17 kjv

Merely Saying words is not a sacrifice. Read about David’s life and you’ll see there was sacrifice for Him.

Why shouldn’t people take credit for what they did? Why should they lie and say someone did what they did?

I agree that everyone's callings are not the same, but yet each of us are called to be servants of God as we serve others within the Spiritual gifts we receive from the Holy Spirit, 1 Corinthians 12. God does not need our ability as He has already given that to us, but wants our availability to serve others. There is no one greater than another in the kingdom of God as God is no respecter of person and all are equal in his eyes. We know the kingdom of God dwells in our hearts and we are all equal in the eyes of the Lord if we be in Christ. We all have various talents that God has given us and the works we do are all for the glory of the Lord as we are called to be laborers of the harvest.

When you read Deuteronomy 28:1-14 these are the blessings of God poured out on those who walk in obedience to His commands.

Christ in us is the hope of eternal glory as we are partakers of His life, death and resurrection, 2 Corinthians 13:5; Colossians 3:1-17

The Holy Spirit indwells us at the time of our salvation confessing Jesus as our Lord and Savior. The Holy Spirit comforts us and teaches us in all Spiritual truth, John 3:5-7; Romans 10:9-10, John 14:26.

Romans 8:1-17 teaches us about life in the Spirit, but yet there will always be a battle against the flesh and the Spirit and the flesh will win the battle at times, but never the war.

I already gave the scriptures, but here are a few more.

John 4:23 But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him.
John 4:24 God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.

As believers in Christ Jesus we are in a relationship with the Lord. This is called being Spiritually born again from above, or being justified by God. We are not only to have a relationship with the Lord, but also having fellowship with Him as we worship Him in Spirit and truth. We are reconciled to God through Christ Jesus that we are sons and daughters to God. John 1:1-18 as when we have fellowship with Christ we have fellowship with the Father.
