It's Official, The World Is Going to be Taken Over By Robots

A robot car hit a pedestrian in Tempe. There was a human back up driver in the car. She did nothing. Research indicates that people in cars with self driving features tend to rely on the technology, instead of alertly monitoring the road like they would if they were driving.

Guardian said:
The 14-second video inside the car showed the operator, identified by police as Rafaela Vasquez, 44, appearing to look at something inside the vehicle and not at the road at the time of the collision. She alternated between looking down and looking forward and appeared shocked at the last minute just as the car failed to stop.

The technology still has a way to go. The radar should have detected that the pedestrian was on an intercept course from the side, and taken evasive action. Its still programmed to monitor straight ahead, and only react when something is directly in its path. If a child is running toward the street after a ball, the car should detect this and stop. Not wait until the child is directly in front of the car before reacting.

The initial police report said that the posted speed limit was 35. The robot car may have been navigating by outdated maps listing a different speed limit. I notice this with my GPS sometimes. It will tell me to take a street that has a sign posted saying no entry during certain hours, because the sign was posted after the map was input into the GPS. I have to figure out an alternate route by myself.

Eventually, technology will improve. Its still a work in progress.
Ha, Bill Gates had the vision that every house would one day have a computer. IBM and other industry leaders thought he was crazy. Today we have more technology in our cars than they had to put a man on the moon. That's pretty amazing!
I heard a quote from Mary Barra, CEO of General Motors recently and she said something like this as her vision.
Zero accidents. Zero congestion and Zero emmissions
That's a pretty big vision!

Yes, technology is improving. If the trend continues, one day cars will be fully automated. Trucking and other commercial vehicles will be first though.

According to Stephen Hawking that is,.. which even though it sort of sounds crazy, I really don't think that he really is that far off.

There is some really scarey stuff out there concerning "War Robots" which could be used for mass killing machines. Mini killer robots and drones, "swarms", etc. As technology advances it will become more of a threat, just like what we have been seeing in some sci-fi movies for years. It will one day become a reality.

Sending war robots to defend the US can keep the troops safe. An example is sending cruise missiles to Syrian chemical weapons factories. Sometimes troops are needed, but not always. Imagine if they could have just sent robots into Afghanistan to deal with Osama et al.

Michael Crichton wrote a book about this kind of thing. Can't remember the title off-hand, but it was basically about a swarm of nanobots that became self-aware and started killing things. Not his greatest novel, but it was still pretty good.

I don't know why, but aside from the movie from the 90's I am not much of a Stargate fan. Probably for the same reason I was never a fan of the Star Trek TV series all the way up to the 2000's. Fake sets, and cheesy writing.

Yes, but hopefully after Joe and I get married and have a few kids first. I would at least want to make it to see seventy. Hopefully that isn't too much to ask, but if it is, I will happily go with Him. :cross Nobody really knows except the Father though.

70? Lol Say, you haven't thought this through have you?! Ok, we're in the end times, that's a given, right? That's one thing that everyone agrees on, lol! But we know, that Jesus is coming soon and what will happen. Some christians may or may not get raptured before the tribulation (but that's for another thread), the point is, then, Jesus sets up His millenial reign here on earth...and we're all going to be here for that.

You think Methuselah lived a long time? At this rate we're all going to be older than 1000 years by the time it wraps up!

So at 70, you'll still be a youngster, lol.

Nope, sorry, I don't agree with the fact that we are all living in end times. For since nobody knows the day or hour when Christ will return, how can we even be so sure of that the world is coming that an end when there have been natural disasters since nearly the beginning of time itself?

the end times have been with us since Jesus ascended to heaven ye men of Galilee
Acts 1:11 King James Version (KJV)
11 Which also said, Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? this same Jesus, which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven.

Well you're the only one then. It's a pretty easy google if you don't believe the scripture...
