Bible Study JESUS OUR EXAMPLE and the APOSTLES OBEYED GOD'S LAW and the SABBATH!

To me it is a holy day. Anything that gives God glory.
The commandment was connected with creation. I love nature, it shows what God can do. How marvellous He is and what love He has for us to allow us to live on this beautiful world. The beauty of it, the animals too. How wonderful they are and how they help us.
Anything good including helping others. If we are working or not during the week, here is an opportunity to help others on the sanbath because they are God's children. Studying God's word. Jesus taught in the temple and he healed people. Be a witness for Christ.
Of course you can do all these things any day but the Sabbath is special it has God's blessing in it. That is why I will be concentrating on God all day. Listen to hymns, sing them, pray. You can do all that any day but the Sabbath you can forget your worries, forget wordly things, and fill the day with spiritual things.

That’s beautiful.

You have a kind and loving heart.

I see your sincerity.

God bless you.

I just see everyday as Holy and an opportunity to love and help people, enjoy nature and focus on God and study.

Paul says it this way.

One person esteems one day above another; another esteems every day alike.Let each be fully convinced in his own mind. He who observes the day, observes it to the Lord; and he who does not observe the day, to the Lord he does not observe it. He who eats, eats to the Lord, for he gives God thanks; and he who does not eat, to the Lord he does not eat, and gives God thanks.
Romans 14:5-6

The author of this thread says that not keeping the Sabbath is a sin and those who violate it will Not be welcome in God’s Kingdom, yet he gives no New Testament scripture that instructs us specifically as to how we are to observe the Sabbath in the New Covenant.

I guess I’m still trying to learn how to spell.

Bless you.

17 “Do not think that I came to destroy the Law or the Prophets. I did not come to destroy but to fulfill. 18 For assuredly, I say to you, till heaven and earth pass away, one jot or one tittle will by no means pass from the law till all is fulfilled. Matthew 5:17-18 I did not come to destroy but to fulfill one jot or one tittle will by no means pass from the law till all is fulfilled. Jesus said He came to fulfill.
Do you believe He fulfilled the law?JLB

You kind of left out v19 from your post. Maybe you missed it? So your post should read...

Matthew 5
17,
Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil.
18, For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.
19, Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.

A few points.....

Has heaven and earth passed away?

Has all things been fulfilled and Jesus returned or is his work continuing in the Heavenly Sanctuary?

What does v19 you left out say about those who brake God's Commandments and teach others to do the same?

Some important questions to think about my friend.

What purpose then does the law serve? It was added because of transgressions, till the Seed should come to whom the promise was made; and it was appointed through angels by the hand of a mediator. Galatians 3:19 It was added because of transgressions, till the Seed should come The Seed has come. This is a reference to His first coming or appearing.

Now JBL this scripture is not saying God's LAW is ABOLISHED it is saying that God's LAW is the KNOWLEDGE OF SIN as referenced from what Paul taught in Romans in 3:20; 31; 7:12.

v24 of Galations is the KEY in that God's LAW is our schoolmaster to lead us to CHIRIST it shows that we are sinners in need of a Savior. It leads us to the CROSS so we can see him who died for us and behold Gods' LOVE for sinners. When we through FAITH BELIEVE God's promise we are no longer UNDER the LAW condemned as a SINNER because through FAITH alonr we have God's forgiveness when we BELIEVE his WORD.

This does not do AWAY with God's LAW it ESTABLISHES God's LAW in the LIFE of the BELIEVER through LOVE and LOVE is the fulfilling of God's LAW in those who BELIEVE (Romans 13:8-10; Romans 8:1-4; Romans 3:31)

The law and the prophets were until John. Since that time the kingdom of God has been preached, and everyone is pressing into it. Luke 16:16

Here you quote Luke 16:16 but also leave out v17-18....

Luke 16
16,
The law and the prophets were until John: since that time the kingdom of God is preached, and every man presseth into it.
17,
And it is easier for heaven and earth to pass, than one tittle of the law to fail.
18, Whosoever putteth away his wife, and marrieth another, committeth adultery: and whosoever marrieth her that is put away from her husband committeth adultery.

The scriptures are saying just as they are saying the law and the prophets were until John. It is because of the preaching of the LAW and the Prophets that everyone is pressing INTO the KINGDOM of HEAVEN
If you do away with the LAW and the prophets how can you know the KINGDOM of HEAVEN?

If there is NO LAW there is NO KNOWLEDDGE of SIN if there is NO KNOWLEDGE of SIN you do not KNOW you need a Savior. If you have no SAVIOUR you have no SALVATION. If you have NO SALVATION you will be LOST.

This is why Jesus says......

Matthew 5
17,
Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil.
20,
For I say unto you, That except your righteousness shall exceed the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, ye shall in no case enter into the kingdom of heaven.

Has heaven and earth passed away?
Has all things been fulfilled and Jesus returned or is his work continuing in the Heavenly Sanctuary?
What does v19 you left out say about those who brake God's Commandments and teach others to do the same?

For He Himself is our peace, who has made both one, and has broken down the middle wall of separation, 15 having abolished in His flesh the enmity, that is, the law of commandments contained in ordinances, so as to create in Himself one new man from the two, thus making peace, Ephesians 2:15-16 having abolished in His flesh the enmity, that is, the law of commandments contained in ordinances JLB

Eph 2:14-16 For He Himself is our peace, who has made both one, and has broken down the middle wall of separation, having abolished in His flesh the enmity, that is, the law of commandments CONTAINED IN ORDINANCES, so as to create in Himself one new man from the two, thus making peace, and that He might reconcile them both to God in one body through the cross, thereby putting to death the enmity.

You choose to use this verse to mean God's LAW (10 commandments) are ABOLISHED right?

The Greek word for ordinances (I highlighted in the verse above) in this verse is the same word used in Colossians 2:14 that refers to what was nailed to the cross. Paul reveals in Colossians 2:16 that these ordinances had “meat and drink offerings,” “holy feast days,” “monthly new moon festivals” and “yearly sacrificial Sabbaths” that Ezekiel 45:17 ever so plainly reveals that this is what was practiced to make reconciliation for sin. In other words, the sacrificial law, which was part of the Mosaic Law. The Ten Commandments were written in the Ten Commandments while the Mosaic Law was written in the Mosaic Law.

Here is what the Strong's and Thayer dictionaries state on the Greek word dogma for ordinances used in this verse. "ORDINANCE" G1378 δόγμα dogma dog'-mah From the base of G1380; which means; CIVIL,CEREMONIAL or ECCLESIASTICAL LAW: - decree; Thayer Ordinance; dogma dog'-mah From the base of G1380 rules and requirements of the law of Moses.

As you can see, there is not so much as a hint of the Ten Commandments being mentioned. Strong's effectively labelled it the ceremonial law while the Thayer dictionary was even clearer stating it was the rules and requirements of the law of Moses. The ordinances are also called the Law of Moses. I have a more detailed study on this I will put it up as a thread latter on looking at dogma and Colossains 2:14-17. It would be nice to have some of your input being learned and all.

And here is another example for even more clarity. Before the cross in the Old Covenant there were both the Ten Commandments and the Ordinances as also seen from Luke 1:6 that alone proves they are not the same thing.

Luke 1
6,
And they were both righteous before God, walking in all the COMMANDMENTS and ORDINANCES of the Lord blameless.

It seems you teach against God's Law and the prophets something Jesus and the apostles never did......

I haven’t seen any scriptures of examples from Paul that direct us to how we are to observe the Sabbath today.
Please read Hebrews 4 where Paul is instructing us that if we do not BELIEVE and FOLLOW God's Word then you will NOT enter into God's Sabbath rest.

Just because a verse contains the word Sabbath, doesn’t mean their is any instruction as to how to observe the Sabbath.

Well that statement has no truth in it whatsoever my good friend.

So Jesus did not teach that it is lawful to do GOOD on the Sabbath?

Jesus did not teach that God's Sabbath was made for man kind and not man for the Sabbath rebuking the tradtions of the Jew in regards to their interpretation around Sabbath keeping?

Jesus did not teach that he was the maker and creator of the Sabbath and the God of creation?

Now if none of the above is true then maybe you read a different bible to the one I have.

Once again you cannot separate the OLD Testament scriprtures from the NEW Testament scrioptures. The NEW builds on what is already KNOWN in the OLD. The NEW testament scriptures do not do away with the OLD testament scriptures because it is written;

All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness

and again...

Man does not live by bread alone but by EVERY WORD that proceeds out of the mouth of God.

The bible of Jesus and the apostles was the Old Testament. The OLD and the NEW Testament scripture are together the two great witnesses that make up the Word of God and we should BELIEVE and FOLLOW it.

As mentioned earlier if you disagree please address this post with scripture and the posts and scriptures you have ignored earlier.

Post # 59;
Post # 61; Post # 64;

Simply repeating the same thing I have already replied to without replying to what I have written adressing what you have already said, only means you do not know how to adress the posts and scriptures I have sent you or you do not wish to discuss the matter so we cannot continue the conversation.

Look forward to your replay. If you cannot reply to my posts and scriptures then it is ok maybe you can pray about it and we can agree to disagree and remain friendsl :)

So let no one judge you in food or in drink, or regarding a festival or a new moon or sabbaths, which are a shadow of things to come, but the substance is of Christ. Colossians 2:16-17which are a shadow of things to come, but the substance is of Christ.

"DITTO" same as the above. Already addressed earlier in posts # 107; Post # 108; Post # 109; Post # 110 and Post # 112 and still waiting for a reply.

My friend there is a lot of scripture here that disagrees with your interpretation of two scriptures here I suggest you read it. I am still waiting for a response. Simply repeating the same things wilthout responding to my posts only says you do not know how to answer them.

Only God's Word is true and we should BELIEVE and FOLLOW it.

Didn't Jesus work on the Sabbath? Which was forbidden? Even when he was healing people the Pharisee's were upset to see this.
The ten commandments are still in effect. The Sabbath day is too.

Hi Honey, nice to meet you and a very BIG welcome!
Jesus was always doing his fathers work (Not secular or business work which would be breaking the 4th Commandment). Jesus taught that it was lawful to do good on the Sabbath to heal and help others. The Jews through their traditions made Sabbath keeping a burden to the people in their interpretation on how to keep it. Jesus came to teach that the Sabbath was made for man not man for the Sabbath.

May God bless you as you continue in His Word.

Very true. Jesus was a revolutionary in many ways. The Pharisee's had corrupted the word of God and made themselves god like in the process. And Jesus set them straight.
Today I think if Jesus came as a man again the Jews would still call him a fake. And modern pastors would say he's insane, or has a God complex and that he should be medicated and ignored.

Great points there Honey! In fact this is the lot of those who BELIEVE and FOLLOW God's Word. Through all time God's people have been persecuted for their faith and it why it is written....

Mathew 10
25,
It is enough for the disciple that he be as his master, and the servant as his lord. If they have called the master of the house Beelzebub,6 how much more shall they call them of his household?

It is not a popular message because human nature does not wish to have sin pointed out. However it is this very truth that leads us to the Cross that we may behold what manner of LOVE God has for those who BELIEVE.

Some important questions to think about my friend.

Are you back to thinking I’m somehow saying that the 10 Commandments are no longer applicable?

As I have said many times now.

I believe we are to keep the commandments.

I do not believe we are to keep them according to the law of Moses which was abolished in a His flesh.

The only thing I have asked you to provide is scripture from the New Testament that instructs us how to observe the Sabbath under the New Covenant, which you have refused to do.

JLB

Please read Hebrews 4 where Paul is instructing us that if we do not BELIEVE and FOLLOW God's Word then you will NOT enter into God's Sabbath rest.

Therefore, since a promise remains of entering His rest, let us fear lest any of you seem to have come short of it. 2 For indeed the gospel was preached to us as well as to them; but the word which they heard did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in those who heard it.3 For we who have believed do enter that rest, as He has said:

“So I swore in My wrath,
‘They shall not enter My rest,’”

although the works were finished from the foundation of the world. 4 For He has spoken in a certain place of the seventh day in this way: “And God rested on the seventh day from all His works”; 5 and again in this place: “They shall not enter My rest.”

6 Since therefore it remains that some must enter it, and those to whom it was first preached did not enter because of disobedience, 7 again He designates a certain day, saying in David, “Today,” after such a long time, as it has been said:

“Today, if you will hear His voice,
Do not harden your hearts.”

8 For if Joshua had given them rest, then He would not afterward have spoken of another day. 9 There remains therefore a rest for the people of God. 10 For he who has entered His rest has himself also ceased from his works as God did from His.

11 Let us therefore be diligent to enter that rest, lest anyone fall according to the same example of disobedience. 12 For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. 13 And there is no creature hidden from His sight, but all things are naked and open to the eyes of Him to whom we must giveaccount.

14 Seeing then that we have a great High Priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. 15 For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin. 16 Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.
Hebrews 4:1-16

Not one single verse that instructs us how to keep the Sabbath under the New Covenant.

Where are you getting your instructions from, as to how to keep the Sabbath?

How do you know you are keeping the Sabbath according to the instructions of the New Covenant.

Please point them out so we all can follow the biblical example of keeping the Sabbath as you are.

Hi JBL, I see you have not answered my questions or replied to the post I just sent to you again. It is ok amybe you can pray about it. Hebrews 4 as I mentioned in the last post, instructs us that we cannot enter in to God's Sabbath rest if we do not BELIEVE and FOLLOW the Word of God.Maybe you missed.

Let's talk Hebrews 4 and look at the scriptures..............

HEBREWS 4

1 Let us therefore fear, lest, a promise being left us of entering into his rest, any of you should seem to come short of it.
2 For unto us was the gospel preached, as well as unto them: but the word preached did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in them that heard it.
3 For we which have believed do enter into rest, as he said, As I have sworn in my wrath, if they shall enter into my rest: although the works were finished from the foundation of the world.
4 For he spake in a certain place of the seventh day on this wise, And God did rest the seventh day from all his works.
5 And in this place again, If they shall enter into my rest.
6 Seeing therefore it remaineth that some must enter therein, and they to whom it was first preached entered not in because of unbelief:
7 Again, he limited a certain day, saying in David, To day, after so long a time; as it is said, Today if ye will hear his voice, harden not your hearts.
8 For if Jesus had given them rest, then would he not afterward have spoken of another day.
9 There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God.
10 For he that is entered into his rest, he also hath ceased from his own works, as God did from his.
11 Let us labour therefore to enter into that rest, lest any man fall after the same example of unbelief.
12 For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

Key Scripture points...............

* Fear that the promise being left us any of us should fall short of entering God’s rest (v1)
* The Gospel was preached to the people in the Wilderness as well as us. The Word did not profit those in the wilderness because of their unbelief (v2)
* For we which have believed do enter into His Rest. The people in the wilderness that did not believe God did not enter into His Rest even though works were finished from the foundation of the world (v3)
* Speaking of the 7th Day Sabbath and the last day of the creation week (Gen 2:1-3) (v4)
* God’s rest (Gen 2:1-3), those that believe enter into God’s 7th Day Sabbath rest those that do not believe do not enter into God’s 7th Day Sabbath rest (v5-6)
* Harden not your heart in unbelief (v7-8)
* There is a rest for the people of God (v9)
* Those that enter into God’s rest (Gen 2:1-3) cease from works as God did v10
* We should labour to enter into God’s rest (Gen 2:1-3) faith in God’s Word (rest through believing God) v11
* The Word of God is powerful. v12

Please go back and look at the Greek meaning of the word "rest" used in Heb 4:9 its meaning is resting through keeping of a Sabbath or Sabbath observance. (I have provided Greek links below)

Hebrews 4:9 (NAS)
“There remaineth therefore a [Sabbath] rest G4520 to the people of God.”

The Greek word literally means “Sabbath keeping” or “Sabbath observance.” (links below)

Strong's Concordance 4520
sabbatismos:
a sabbath rest
Original Word: σαββατισμός, οῦ, ὁ
Part of Speech: Noun, Masculine
Transliteration: sabbatismos
Phonetic Spelling: (sab-bat-is-mos')
Short Definition: a Sabbath rest
Definition: a keeping of the Sabbath, a Sabbath rest.

Strong's Greek 4520

σαββατισμὸς — 1 Occ.
Hebrews 4:9N-NMS
GRK: ἄρα ἀπολείπεται σαββατισμὸς τῷ λαῷ
NAS: there remains a Sabbath rest for the people
KJV: therefore a rest to the people
INT: Then remains a sabbath rest to the people

Thayer's Greek Lexicon
STRONGS NT 4520: σαββατισμός

σαββατισμός, σαββατισμου, ὁ (σαββατίζω to keep the sabbath); 1. a keeping sabbath. 2. the blessed rest from toils and troubles looked for in the age to come by the true worshippers of God and true Christians (R. V. sabbath rest): Hebrews 4:9. (Plutarch, de superstit. c. 3; ecclesiastical writings.)

So let’s pull Hebrews 4:1-12 all together?

The context is God’s rest from the week of creation on the 7th Day of the creation week (Heb 4:1-5). Those that did not enter into God’s rest (7th Day Sabbath) did not enter in because of their unbelief and disobedience (sins) to God’s Word. The Gospel was preached unto them but they did not believe it (Heb 4:2). God did not give them His true rest (Heb 4:5-8). This is the same warning for those that disobey Him and do not follow His Word. Only those that believe and obey God’s Word enter into his 7th Day Sabbath rest (Heb 4:6, 9, 10-12). So you can see Jesus is not a Sabbath. The Sabbath is the 7th Day of the Week. Jesus is Lord of this Day because he is the creator of this day (Heb 4:4; Mark 2:28).

There is no scripture in all of God’s Word that says that Jesus is a Sabbath only that he is the Lord of the Sabbath and he made it for all of mankind and commands us to keep it as a holy day as a memorial of creation (Mark 2:27-28; Gen 2:1-3; Ex 20:8-11)

Yep there it is in black and white straight from the Word of God. Hebrews 4 as I mentioned in the last post, instructs us that we cannot enter in to God's Sabbath rest if we do not BELIEVE and FOLLOW the Word of God.

Not one single verse in Hebrews 4 or in the New Testament that instructs us how to keep the Sabbath under the New Covenant.

Where are you getting your instructions from, as to how to keep the Sabbath?

How do you know you are keeping the Sabbath according to the instructions of the New Covenant.

Please point them out so we all can follow the biblical example of keeping the Sabbath as you are.

Really JBL? Are you serious my friend?

So Jesus did not teach that it is lawful to do GOOD on the Sabbath? (Matt 12:1-8; 10-12; 24:20; Mark 3:1-5; Luke 6:1-10; 13:14-16; 14:1-5; John 7:22-23; 9:14; Mark 1:21; Mark 6:2; Luke 4:16; 31; Luke 14:1; 23:56)

Jesus did not teach that God's Sabbath was made for man kind and not man for the Sabbath rebuking the tradtions of the Jew in regards to their interpretation around Sabbath keeping? (Mark 2:27-28; Matthew 12:8)

Jesus did not teach that he was the maker and creator of the Sabbath and the God of creation? (Hebrews 1:2; John 1:1-3; 14; Ephesians 3:9; Colossians 1:16-17; Mark 2:27)

It seems God's Word disagrees with you my friend. It is hard to have a discussion with you if you do not adress my post and keep repeating the same things that my posts have already responded to with scripture or the questions I ask you.

Lets agree to disagree and remain friends. There is nothing hidden that shall not be revealed come judgment day. Maybe you can pray about it and we can talk about it further latter :). Thanks for sharing...

May God bless you as you seek him through His Word.

Really JBL? Are you serious my friend?

Ok. So that’s all that required to know, to observe the Sabbath under the New Covenant is: Its ok to do good?

That’s it.

Hey everyone. News flash.

It’s lawful to do good on the Sabbath, just like every other day of the week.

Hebrews 4 teaches us there is a rest to come for the people of God.

There remains therefore a rest for the people of God. Hebrews 4:9

I guess last Saturday wasn’t it.

Actually no Hebrews 4 is talking about God's Sabbath....

Only God's Word is true and we should BELIEVE and FOLLOW it

.................

In times of ignorance God winks at but now ,<when a KNOWLEDGE of the truth has come> calls all men everywhere to REPENT (FOLLOW) (Acts 17:30-31).

There is not one scripture in all of God's Word that says that God's 4th Commandment is now ABOLISHED and we are now commanded to KEEP Sunday as a Holy day.

God's 4th commandment is one of the ten (Exodus 20:8-11) If we knowingly break it when God asks us not to we stand guilty before God of committing sin (James 2:8-12). If we do not seek him in repentance and forgiveness we are in danger of the Judgement (Hebrews 10:26-27)

Sunday worship is a tradition and teaching of man that has lead many to break the commandments of God. Jesus says that if we follow the traditions of man that break the commandments of God we are not following God (Matthew 15:3-9)

Who should we follow the teachings and traditions of men or the Word of God? Who should we believe the Words of men or the Word of God?

May God bless you as you seek him through His Word.

Ok. So that’s all that required to know, to observe the Sabbath under the New Covenant is: Its ok to do good?
That’s it. Hey everyone. News flash. It’s lawful to do good on the Sabbath, just like every other day of the week.

It seems it is true in your view......

Jesus did not teach that it is lawful to do GOOD on the Sabbath? (Matt 12:1-8; 10-12; 24:20; Mark 3:1-5; Luke 6:1-10; 13:14-16; 14:1-5; John 7:22-23; 9:14; Mark 1:21; Mark 6:2; Luke 4:16; 31; Luke 14:1; 23:56)

Jesus in your view did not teach that God's Sabbath was made for man kind and not man for the Sabbath rebuking the tradtions of the Jew in regards to their interpretation around Sabbath keeping? (Mark 2:27-28; Matthew 12:8)

Jesus in your view, did not teach that he was the maker and creator of the Sabbath and the God of creation? (Hebrews 1:2; John 1:1-3; 14; Ephesians 3:9; Colossians 1:16-17; Mark 2:27)

Jesus in your view is not our example who kept the Sabbath as well as all those who followed him (Matt 12:1-8; 10-12; 24:20; Mark 3:1-5; Luke 6:1-10; 13:14-16; 14:1-5; John 7:22-23; 9:14; Mark 1:21; Mark 6:2; Luke 4:16; 31; Luke 14:1; 23:56; John 2:6; Matt 16:24; Acts 13:14; 13:27; 13:44; 15:21; 16:13; 17:2; 18:4; Rev 1:10)

It is hard to see when your eyes are closed.

In your view Jesus was lying when he said those that break God's Commandments and teach others to do so will not enter God's Kingdom?

In your view Jesus was lying when he said not a jot or tittle will pass from God's LAW until heaven and earth pass away? Now we havent even started on the Aposltes then again if you do not BELIEVE Jesus how will you BELIEVE his discples?

It seems you believe Jesus and the Apostles are all lying and the Bible is not true?

You teach others to brake God's Commandments this is something Jesus and the Apostles NEVER did.

Those who do such things do not enter into God's KINGDOM. This is sad for you my friend. Jesus is calling you my friend but you do not hear him. When your lamp has gone out how can you find your way when the road is dark and narrow is the way? God's Sheep hear his Voice.
