Bible Study Job - Book of Declaration and Transformation

Job 13:1
Lo, mine eye hath seen all this, mine ear hath heard and understood it.
2 What ye know, the same do I know also: I am not inferior unto you.
3 Surely I would speak to the Almighty, and I desire to reason with God.
4 But ye are forgers of lies, ye are all physicians of no value.
5 O that ye would altogether hold your peace! and it should be your wisdom.
6 Hear now my reasoning, and hearken to the pleadings of my lips.
7 Will ye speak wickedly for God? and talk deceitfully for him?
8 Will ye accept his person? will ye contend for God?
9 Is it good that he should search you out? or as one man mocketh another, do ye so mock him?
10 He will surely reprove you, if ye do secretly accept persons.
11 Shall not his excellency make you afraid? and his dread fall upon you?
12 Your remembrances are like unto ashes, your bodies to bodies of clay.
13 Hold your peace, let me alone, that I may speak, and let come on me what will.
14 Wherefore do I take my flesh in my teeth, and put my life in mine hand?
15 Though he slay me, yet will I trust in him: but I will maintain mine own ways before him.
16 He also shall be my salvation: for an hypocrite shall not come before him.
17 Hear diligently my speech, and my declaration with your ears.
18 Behold now, I have ordered my cause; I know that I shall be justified.
19 Who is he that will plead with me? for now, if I hold my tongue, I shall give up the ghost.
20 Only do not two things unto me: then will I not hide myself from thee.
21 Withdraw thine hand far from me: and let not thy dread make me afraid.
22 Then call thou, and I will answer: or let me speak, and answer thou me.
23 How many are mine iniquities and sins? make me to know my transgression and my sin.
24 Wherefore hidest thou thy face, and holdest me for thine enemy?
25 Wilt thou break a leaf driven to and fro? and wilt thou pursue the dry stubble?
26 For thou writest bitter things against me, and makest me to possess the iniquities of my youth.
27 Thou puttest my feet also in the stocks, and lookest narrowly unto all my paths; thou settest a print upon the heels of my feet.
28 And he, as a rotten thing, consumeth, as a garment that is moth eaten.

I Peter 2:24
Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed.

Chapter 13 seems to be about enemies (leaders of the law) our sins and the Father forsaking Jesus on the cross. Complete with bruised heels (v 27).

Man of sorrows on the tree.

eddif

Do not stop the comments on chapter 13

Coming up in chapter 14. The benefits of man because of the cross. And your sins are put in a bag and remembered no more.

eddif

Chapter 15 will do a time warp back to the charges against Jesus.
Chapter 16 will cover Jesus turned over to his enemies for death. Which is kind of strange that the cross came first, but Jesus was slain at the foundation of the earth.

Maybe this will give some help in pre reading ahead.

Job 13:23 How many are mine iniquities and sins? make me to know my transgression and my sin.
Job knows he is innocent. He is not a hypocrite before the Lord. So tell me what I have done wrong that you say the Lord is punishing me for.
Job 13:24 Wherefore hidest thou thy face, and holdest me for thine enemy?
Job 13:25 Wilt thou break a leaf driven to and fro? and wilt thou pursue the dry stubble?
Will you hide your face from me, judging me, or will you support me, help me to stand? Will you do to me while I am in this weakened state what the Lord will never do to me?
Isa 42:3 A bruised reed shall he not break, and the smoking flax shall he not quench: he shall bring forth judgment unto truth.

Job 13:26 For thou writest bitter things against me, and makest me to possess the iniquities of my youth.
Job 13:27 Thou puttest my feet also in the stocks, and lookest narrowly unto all my paths; thou settest a print upon the heels of my feet.
You want me to take possession of the foolishness of youth. You want me to carry long forgiven and forgotten sins around, to be burdened by them. A yoke I cannot bare, they will be as irons around my ankles causing me to continually stumble and drag my feet.
Job 13:15 Though he slay me, yet will I trust in him: but I will maintain mine own ways before him.

If job is talking of Jesus, then Jesus may be wondering how many sins he will have to bear.

The one to sweat blood is working through his calling. 13:24 faces / face turn from him. Isaiah 53:3
He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not.

A close study of Job really opens some deep questions and answers.

:salute
We see the prophetic word of the coming Redeemer, who's heel is bruised, while Job speaks of his own relationship to his Redeemer.
Job's friends speak sin and death, Job speaks grace.

I have posted before (?).

Acts 8:32
The place of the scripture which he read was this, He was led as a sheep to the slaughter; and like a lamb dumb before his shearer, so opened he not his mouth:
33 In his humiliation his judgment was taken away: and who shall declare his generation? for his life is taken from the earth.
34 The eunuch answered Philip and said, "Please tell me, of whom does the prophet say this? Of himself or of someone else?"
35 Then Philip opened his mouth, and began at the same scripture, and preached unto him Jesus.

When we read, we should always look for the prophetic.

Isaiah 1:18
Come now, and let us reason together, saith the LORD: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool.

God wishes to discuss with us our sin forgiveness. Revelation 3:20
But listen to Zophar

Zophar said in 11:7
7 Canst thou by searching find out God? canst thou find out the Almighty unto perfection?
8 It is as high as heaven; what canst thou do? deeper than hell; what canst thou know?
9 The measure thereof is longer than the earth, and broader than the sea.

God wants to discuss but Zophar wants us to see God as out of our reach. Zophar would be better off to be silent.

Open the door invite Holy Spirit in and learn.

Chapter 14 job still talking.
Man was not created for trouble, but through the fall of Adam and the shortening of life to 120 years and finally 70 years sins progression is slowed (not stopped). In the fullness of time Jesus comes forth to be born of a virgin and bears our sin in his body, on the cross, that we might have forgiveness of sin I Peter 2:24

Job 14:1
Man that is born of a woman is of few days, and full of trouble.
2 He cometh forth like a flower, and is cut down: he fleeth also as a shadow, and continueth not.
3 And dost thou open thine eyes upon such an one, and bringest me into judgment with thee?

(Jesus was aware of our sins and man shares with Jesus)

4 Who can bring a clean thing out of an unclean? not one.

(Man is not righteous by his works, but reckoned righteous)

5 Seeing his days are determined, the number of his months are with thee, thou hast appointed his bounds that he cannot pass;
6 Turn from him, that he may rest, till he shall accomplish, as an hireling, his day.

(Isaiah 53 we turn from him that he may accomplish our salvation without our works --- on the cross He says it is finished)

7 For there is hope of a tree, if it be cut down, that it will sprout again, and that the tender branch thereof will not cease.

(Arron's rod budded so shall we at the resurrection)

8 Though the root thereof wax old in the earth, and the stock thereof die in the gmround;

(The grave can not contain Jesus)

9 Yet through the scent of water it will bud, and bring forth boughs like a plant.

(Holy Spirit )

10 But man dieth, and wasteth away: yea, man giveth up the ghost, and where is he?

(Man that believes in the work of The Christ will be raised at the end of time - and have a new life before physical death)

11 As the waters fail from the sea, and the flood decayeth and drieth up:

(Revelation 10:6 And sware by him that liveth for ever and ever, who created heaven, and the things that therein are, and the earth, and the things that therein are, and the sea, and the things which are therein, that there should be time no longer:)

12 So man lieth down, and riseth not: till the heavens be no more, they shall not awake, nor be raised out of their sleep.

(Heaven and earth shall pass away, but the promise of our resurrection will not pas away)

13 O that thou wouldest hide me in the grave, that thou wouldest keep me secret, until thy wrath be past, that thou wouldest appoint me a set time, and remember me!

(Buried with him - Romans 6:4 Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.)

14 If a man die, shall he live again? all the days of my appointed time will I wait, till my change come.

(After death we wait for the resurrection)

15 Thou shalt call, and I will answer thee: thou wilt have a desire to the work of thine hands.

(Mind of Christ in life)

16 For now thou numberest my steps: dost thou not watch over my sin?

( remembers our sin no more)

17 My transgression is sealed up in a bag, and thou sewest up mine iniquity.

(I Peter 2:24. He himself bore our sins in his body)

Pause.
You would think the Book of Job was about Job, but Christ is hidden in the former things.

First part of Job14 is about salvation. Now for the wretched man part. Oh No not that part of us (or perhaps me). The next part is the faith part where we do not always see the manifested mind part of our salvation. The man part of out existence awaits the resurrection, and depends on faith.

Job 14:18
And surely the mountain falling cometh to nought, and the rock is removed out of his place.
19 The waters wear the stones: thou washest away the things which grow out of the dust of the earth; and thou destroyest the hope of man.
20 Thou prevailest for ever against him, and he passeth: thou changest his countenance, and sendest him away.
21 His sons come to honour, and he knoweth itnot; and they are brought low, but he perceiveth it not of them.
22 But his flesh upon him shall have pain, and his soul within him shall mourn.

We mourn to put on our future with Christ Jesus. When did we give thee to drink?

False accusations were made about Jesus, and here prophetically we see the accusations.

Job 15:1
Then answered Eliphaz the Temanite, and said,
2 Should a wise man utter vain knowledge, and fill his belly with the east wind?
3 Should he reason with unprofitable talk? or with speeches wherewith he can do no good?
4 Yea, thou castest off fear, and restrainest prayer before God.
5 For thy mouth uttereth thine iniquity, and thou choosest the tongue of the crafty.
6 Thine own mouth condemneth thee, and not I: yea, thine own lips testify against thee.
7 Art thou the first man that was born? or wast thou made before the hills?
(Sure was - slain from the foundation of the world, and first born of the dead)
8 Hast thou heard the secret of God? and dost thou restrain wisdom to thyself?
9 What knowest thou, that we know not? what understandest thou, which is not in us?
10 With us are both the grayheaded and very aged men, much elder than thy father.
(Sure wrong Jesus had God as his Father - ancient of days)
11 Are the consolations of God small with thee? is there any secret thing with thee?
12 Why doth thine heart carry thee away? and what do thy eyes wink at,
13 That thou turnest thy spirit against God, and lettest such words go out of thy mouth?
14 What is man, that he should be clean? and he which is born of a woman, that he should be righteous?
15 Behold, he putteth no trust in his saints; yea, the heavens are not clean in his sight.
(God declared creation good)
16 How much more abominable and filthy is man, which drinketh iniquity like water?
17 I will shew thee, hear me; and that which I have seen I will declare;
18 Which wise men have told from their fathers, and have not hid it:
19 Unto whom alone the earth was given, and no stranger passed among them.
20 The wicked man travaileth with pain all hisdays, and the number of years is hidden to the oppressor.
21 A dreadful sound is in his ears: in prosperity the destroyer shall come upon him.
22 He believeth not that he shall return out of darkness, and he is waited for of the sword.
23 He wandereth abroad for bread, saying, Whereis it? he knoweth that the day of darkness is ready at his hand.
24 Trouble and anguish shall make him afraid; they shall prevail against him, as a king ready to the battle.
25 For he stretcheth out his hand against God, and strengtheneth himself against the Almighty.
26 He runneth upon him, even on his neck, upon the thick bosses of his bucklers:
27 Because he covereth his face with his fatness, and maketh collops of fat on his flanks.
28 And he dwelleth in desolate cities, and in houses which no man inhabiteth, which are ready to become heaps.
29 He shall not be rich, neither shall his substance continue, neither shall he prolong the perfection thereof upon the earth.
30 He shall not depart out of darkness; the flame shall dry up his branches, and by the breath of his mouth shall he go away.
31 Let not him that is deceived trust in vanity: for vanity shall be his recompence.
32 It shall be accomplished before his time, and his branch shall not be green.
33 He shall shake off his unripe grape as the vine, and shall cast off his flower as the olive.
34 For the congregation of hypocrites shall bedesolate, and fire shall consume the tabernacles of bribery.
35 They conceive mischief, and bring forth vanity, and their belly prepareth deceit.

The answers can come from every area of the bible and life of Jesus. At this point I have only covered a few.

Job was declared righteous and Jesus was well pleasing to the Father. Eliphaz is in opposition to God's declaration.

Job 15:3

Has become
Isaiah 50:4
The Lord GOD hath given me the tongue of the learned, that I should know how to speak a word in season to him that is weary: he wakeneth morning by morning, he wakeneth mine ear to hear as the learned.

Job's friends speak no truth.
Job replies in Job 16:5
But I would strengthen you with my mouth, and the moving of my lips should asswage your grief.

5 For thy mouth uttereth thine iniquity, and thou choosest the tongue of the crafty.
6 Thine own mouth condemneth thee, and not I: yea, thine own lips testify against thee.
I John 1:9
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

Job was not being crafty but being honest about the salvation to come.

Job answered in Job 16:6-7
6 Though I speak, my grief is not asswaged: and though I forbear, what am I eased?
7 But now he hath made me weary: thou hast made desolate all my company.
8 And thou hast filled me with wrinkles, which is a witnessagainst me: and my leanness rising up in me beareth witness to my face.

Jobs sins are born by Jesus on the cross and Jesus bears the suffering of all who believe (Jesus has: his beard pulled out, crown of thorns, bones out of joint, kidneys pierced in beating, hands and ankle pierced, side pierced, etc. (pretty much gaunt, due to blood and water loss).

Job does not speak of himself alone, but of Christ.

Job 16:8
And thou hast filled me with wrinkles, which is a witness against me: and my leanness rising up in me beareth witness to my face.
(He is probably dehydrated from blood loss.
9 He teareth me in his wrath, who hateth me: he gnasheth upon me with his teeth; mine enemy sharpeneth his eyes upon me.
10 They have gaped upon me with their mouth; they have smitten me upon the cheek reproachfully; they have gathered themselves together against me.
11 God hath delivered me to the ungodly, and turned me over into the hands of the wicked.
(Jesus was turned over to godless Romans)
12 I was at ease, but he hath broken me asunder: he hath also taken me by my neck, and shaken me to pieces, and set me up for his mark.
(I wonder if the cross dropped in its hole caused a shaking that might have taken his bones out of joint (?)), but I do know his being lifted up was for a sign / mark - if I be lifted up will draw all men to me).
13 His archers compass me round about, he cleaveth my reins asunder, and doth not spare; he poureth out my gall upon the ground.
(The whip pierced his kidneys / reins , and the spear piercing his side probably released the heart sac and may have hit his liver (?).
14 He breaketh me with breach upon breach, he runneth upon me like a giant.
15 I have sewed sackcloth upon my skin, and defiled my horn in the dust.
(So much symbolism that I do no completely get yet -- tied with Job 14:17 ).
16 My face is foul with weeping, and on my eyelids is the shadow of death;
(Man of sorrows and acquainted with grief).
17 Not for any injustice in mine hands: also my prayer is pure.
(Jesus was pure and Job declared pure)
18 O earth, cover not thou my blood, and let my cry have no place.
(The blood of Jesus should always be seen and spoken of -- Jesus was raised and his sorrow is ended. -- his next coming will be in glory).
19 Also now, behold, my witness is in heaven, and my record is on high
(Jesus was on the cross with the sign King of Jews over his head )
20 My friends scorn me: but mine eye poureth outtears unto God.
(His disciples have fled)
21 O that one might plead for a man with God, as a man pleads for his neighbor!
(Father forgive them)

It is just amazing to hear Christ's story in Job.

I am considering just posting 17 as a chapter. To me every verse reads like the condition of Jesus.

Job 17:1
My breath is corrupt, my days are extinct, the graves are ready for me.
2 Are there not mockers with me? and doth not mine eye continue in their provocation?
3 Lay down now, put me in a surety with thee; who is he that will strike hands with me?
4 For thou hast hid their heart from understanding: therefore shalt thou not exalt them.
5 He that speaketh flattery to hisfriends, even the eyes of his children shall fail.
6 He hath made me also a byword of the people; and aforetime I was as a tabret.
7 Mine eye also is dim by reason of sorrow, and all my members areas a shadow.
8 Upright men shall be astonied at this, and the innocent shall stir up himself against the hypocrite.
9 The righteous also shall hold on his way, and he that hath clean hands shall be stronger and stronger.
10 But as for you all, do ye return, and come now: for I cannot findone wise man among you.
11 My days are past, my purposes are broken off, even the thoughts of my heart.
12 They change the night into day: the light isshort because of darkness.
13 If I wait, the grave is mine house: I have made my bed in the darkness.
14 I have said to corruption, Thou art my father: to the worm, Thou art my mother, and my sister.
15 And where is now my hope? as for my hope, who shall see it?
16 They shall go down to the bars of the pit, whenour rest together is in the dust.

I will make more comments after others read over what I take to be Christ speaking of his death.

Job 17:1
Graves not just his grave
I Peter 3:18
For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit:
19 By which also he went and preached unto the spirits in prison;
2 Jesus was mocked by Roman soldiers.
Matthew 27:29
platted a crown of thorns, they put it upon his head, and a reed in his right hand: and they bowed the knee before him, and mocked him, saying, Hail, King of the Jews!

3 The father forsook him, and ...
Mark 14.20
And they all forsook him, and fled.

I Peter 3:4
But let it be the hidden man of the heart, in that which is not corruptible, even the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God of great price.

Answer for 17:5
Proverbs 26:4
Answer not a fool according to his folly, lest thou also be like unto him.
5 Answer a fool according to his folly, lest he be wise in his own conceit.

If you just use flattery for your friends, your friends and your children will not see how you should answer.

Jesus used praise and correction in dealing with Peter (for example). Since he was so honest we even see the lesson today.
