Matt 23:1-3 question

Jethro Bodine I know you and I have invested way to much time in this thread to the point of continually repeating ourselves over and over. I'm stepping away for now, but will keep my eyes in here.

Once again donadams please keep your Catholic threads in the Catholic forum as this is where future ones will end up and all discussions can be had there.
 
No sense in going over this again and again with you as if you do not believe the simplicity in Ephesians 2:8-9 and continue to believe at first it takes faith, works and baptism in order to receive that which is free then you are teaching a different gospel.

John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

I suppose you do not believe this verse either because it does not say works or baptism, but only believe in Jesus.

Jas 2:14 What doth it profit, my brethren, though a man say he hath faith, and have not works? can faith save him?

Faith is a free gift of God's grace that we receive when we first believe in Christ Jesus. Faith/belief is what leads us to begin the good works of the Lord that we are to walk in. It has nothing to do with immersion in water, but to be Baptized in the baptism of Christ for the indwelling of the Holy Spirit.

Mat 3:11 I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance: but he that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am not worthy to bear: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost, and with fire

How are men redeemed, sanctified and made holy before God if not by the blood of the Lamb that was shed for all who by faith, not by works, not by their own righteousness, which faith is the free gift of God's grace to all who will believe in the name of Jesus.

Why do you think that Jesus first characterized the Pharisees and then condemned them as He lamented over Jerusalem in Matthew 23.

Fire means empowerment as we are empowered by the Holy Spirit through God's power and authority by His grace given to us so that we take authority in the name of Jesus over all the evil in this world as we stand strong in faith until the end when Christ returns on the last day.

Of course we need to be in a state of faith no matter what tries to come against us. No one is saved until the day of Christ return as for now we must endure all things and then our salvation will come in the end. For now we are sealed by the Holy Spirit of promise, Matthew 24:13; Ephesians 1:1-14.
 
We are members of Christ in grace by faith and baptism
Then we endure in him and his church his sacraments his grace his virtues til the end
Then salvation


Redemption:
The redemption was accomplished by Christ with no participation on our part!

Justification:
then when we believe in him and his redemption we are justified in that faith and baptism!

Sanctification:
then we are in Christ and his church by grace faith and baptism we practice good works (prayer, alms, fasting, virtues charity, other sacraments etc.

At the hour of death separation from the grace of God by apostasy / rejection of Christ or failing to repent of serious sin a man is lost in damnation! Or

Salvation:
Is for those who are faithful and die in the grace of God united to Christ and in his saints at death enter into eternal salvation!

Titus 2:14
Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, (redemption) and purify unto himself a peculiar people, (justification / baptism notice purify / wash) Jn 3:5 zealous of good works. (Sanctification) Matt 24:13 endures to the end Shall be saved.

Your Titus reference is in opposition to your incomplete justification definition. Who does the justifying in your definition? Who does the justification in your Titus reference? Who does the purifying in each of these cases?

This is the problem with words made up to cover Biblical ideas.
Too much extra baggage gets added over time.
Just stick to the words in the Bible to describe the Bible.
Keep your made up words for things that do not matter very much.
Words are the most common cause of division. The ideas might be identical but the words used to describe the ideas get muddled over time.
 
Do you owe submission and obedience to the king?
Not sure what you mean by owe, but all who are Christ own submit to God's will as we walk in obedience to His commands as the greatest command is love. Colossians 3:1-4; 2John 1:6

John 3:5 never mentions the word baptize, but says only by being born of water and spirit, which means water as living water, word of God, that no one can enter into the kingdom of God unless they are Spiritually renewed (born again) by the hearing of the word, which is Christ Jesus and by the Holy Spirit that came on them in the OT and indwells us in the NT. Many do read into the passage a preconceived idea or theology, but baptism is never mentioned in this verse. God's word is living water as described in John 4:4-26; 7:37-39; 12:44-50; Ephesians 5:26; 1 John 5:5-8; Jeremiah 17:13; Zechariah 14:8, 9; Rev 21:6-8; Ezekiel 47:22.

If salvation came by actual immersion in water Jesus clearly could have simply stated, "Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is baptized by being immersed in water and born of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.” Further, if Jesus had made such a statement, He would have contradicted numerous other Bible passages that make it clear that salvation is by faith (John 3:16; John 3:36; Ephesians 2:8-9; Titus 3:5).

There is the case of the thief on the cross who repented, the women who was to be stoned for adultery, the women at the well, death bed confessions and even those who are incapacitated that can not be immersed in water. Does this mean they are not saved or born again, no. It means that no dirty river water is going to save anyone, but that it is only a symbol of repentance like that of John the baptist who called those to repent first. There is nothing wrong with being dunked in water, but know that it is only an outward appearance to others of what has already taken place Spiritually within you when you repented, accepted Jesus and was indwelled with the Holy Spirit.

But, I am going to digress as the OP is not about Baptism so if you want to make a new thread on that you can tag me into it as this is all I am going to give on this in order to answer your question and do not want to derail this thread

What is the seal of the spirit?

At Pentecost what is symbolized by the tongues of fire but the light of truth and the love of God!

eph 2:8 does not refer to you’re salvation it’s already past tense when Paul wrote it so it refers redemption accomplished by Christ apart from our involvement

1) were you “saved” without faith?
2) were you “saved” before you were born?
3) if it’s not your faith, then who’s?
4) what does quickened mean in vs 1?
5) since it’s grace and not something we do, your saying all men are saved?

The water in the above passage would indicate natural birth. (when a womans water breaks before birth)
The spirit is the birth into the Body of Christ.

The water in the above passage would indicate natural birth. (when a womans water breaks before birth)
The spirit is the birth into the Body of Christ.

Anyway we must be born of water AND the spirit not just spirit
