Because Mary too was born of a woman, like everyone else. Why?
It's really not a big deal.Because Mary too was born of a woman, like everyone else.
Mary was undoubtedly a virtuous and chaste young Hebrew woman. And being human, she was also a sinner, like all mankind. But God had a plan to bring Messiah out of the line of David through Nathan, and both she and Joseph (from the line of Solomon) were descendants of David (hence their trip to Bethlehem). Joseph was the "legal father" of Christ to establish lineage, but it was according to "the fulness of time" that Mary conceived and brought forth her Son (Gal 4:4).There has to have been something about this young girl that touched God's heart, doesn't there?
First, I'd say 2) is because of 1).The "big deal" is to have a clear scriptural perspective, because there is little or no teaching about these matters from Scripture, and a lot of unscriptural teaching which is rarely addressed.
So you chose Christmas time to bring down Mary.Mary was undoubtedly a virtuous and chaste young Hebrew woman. And being human, she was also a sinner, like all mankind. Absolutely not!
From Luke 1:
28 The angel went to her and said, “Greetings, you who are highly favored! The Lord is with you.” 29 Mary was greatly troubled at his words and wondered what kind of greeting this might be. 30 But the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary; you have found favor with God.
Twice the angel tells her that God favors her. I don't know why, but God found favor with her. There has to have been something about this young girl that touched God's heart, doesn't there?
Did He just point and say "BAM, she will do!" According to the angel's own words, this is NOT how it happened. She was chosen.
Worshipping her is going too far. But in the context that Jesus and God are one, then she IS the mother of God.
What's the big deal?
I agree Pizza until you get to here But in the context that Jesus and God are one, then she IS the mother of God. I have a dumb brother who at the age of 50 has gone traitor, He has gone so far RCC our dad is turning over in his grave.. and that is the term he uses...
I will not say more because of the TOS
Reba said.
Reba quoted Scripture

Again i quote
Luk_1:28 And the angel came in unto her, and said, Hail, thou that art highly favoured, the Lord is with thee: blessed art thou among women.
Are you possibly reading into my words something that is not there?
I do not understand this statement of yours.. There is nothing pushing lower or higher.
Is not the elevation of Mary your complaint?
Let's look at the words of Jesus himself;
Luke 8:16;
"No one lights a lamp and hides it in a clay jar or puts it under a bed. Instead, they put it on a stand, so those who come in can see the light".
We are not just a vessel, we are special.
God himself puts us on a stand so that the world can see our light, the light that comes from and through Jesus.
So don't say we are just a vessel, we are more than that.
When the Spirit of God shines through you, you are a vessel of God, on a stand, shining bright to the whole world.
Mary included.
The OP is about Mariology being idolatry.
Nothing more than that.
If you think the OP says more than that, you need to reread it and point it out to me.
In the meantime, anyone who is a believer in God, and especially those who have a place in the Bible, need not to be put down for any other reason.
To do so is speaking out against Christianity.
Once again i will quote the scripture... it says what is says...Luk_1:28 And the angel came in unto her, and said, Hail, thou that art highly favoured, the Lord is with thee: blessed art thou among women. How do you want me to make you understand. When there is nothing pushing lower or higher -- it means that I can't find anything specifics of Mary after the resurrection of Christ. Maybe the author of the bible "the Holy Spirit" should have included a special book about Mary's role in raising up child Jesus and her ministry after resurrection. Can atleast read about few great women like Lydia, Prisca, Priscilla but not about the mother of Jesus "The Mother Mary". So I'm very sorry for not pushing her higher further.
Once again i will quote the scripture... it says what is says...Luk_1:28 And the angel came in unto her, and said, Hail, thou that art highly favoured, the Lord is with thee: blessed art thou among women.
Seems to me you have some idea in your head about my thoughts on Mary that are not mine this happens often in the forums ... The scripture says what is says.
Luk 1:42 And she spake out with a loud voice, and said, Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb.
Luk 1:43 And whence is this to me, that the mother of my Lord should come to me?
Luk 1:44 For, lo, as soon as the voice of thy salutation sounded in mine ears, the babe leaped in my womb for joy.
Luk 1:45 And blessed is she that believed: for there shall be a performance of those things which were told her from the Lord.
Luk 1:46 And Mary said, My soul doth magnify the Lord,
Luk 1:47 And my spirit hath rejoiced in God my Saviour.
Luk 1:48 For he hath regarded the low estate of his handmaiden: for, behold, from henceforth all generations shall call me blessed.
To be clear I do not believe/think she is a co-redeemer .. the queen of heaven ... the mother of God... i do not believe she ascended. ...
I do believe she was
highly favoured, and blessed, as the scriptures say...
What you lose is that you show disrespect to a woman that was honored above all other woman.Yeah. that's what I also believe so what's the deal here.
My question to you is why do you get by honoring Mother Mary according to the scriptures?
What do you lose by honoring less according to the scriptures or honouring more according to te scriptures?
What you lose is that you show disrespect to a woman that was honored above all other woman.
There's no need for that.
You seem to have a problem but it goes deeper than what you are expressing here.
As a former Roman Catholic, and a family full of Roman Catholics, and my wife's family full of Roman Catholics, and being 64 years old and been around the block and more, I've come to learn that showing loving respect to Mary as the surest way to reach a Roman Catholic and open up dialogue with them about Jesus.
Funny thing, showing love, it does something to you.
Even if they don't respond to the message, I do.
I learn to love and not judge.
I learn that the message of the Gospel is love, nothing else.
You will never reach another my showing anything other than love.
You need to look at what you say and do all the time.
We all do.
We need to correct one another, me you and you me.
And we should do it in love.
Mary is special, special to a lot of people.
It shouldn't hurt to say so. because she really is.
And it will go a long way when your attitude changes and dialogue is opened like never before.
Not sure if i understand your question... but i will try with this answer... I have the knowledge in my head/heart that i honor the Scriptures.Yeah. that's what I also believe so what's the deal here.
My question to you is what do you get by honoring Mother Mary according to the scriptures?
What do you lose by honoring less according to the scriptures or gain by honoring more according to the scriptures?
King James Bible James 5:17
Elias was a man subject to like passions as we are, and he prayed earnestly that it might not rain: and it rained not on the earth by the space of three years and six months.
Not sure if i understand your question... but i will try with this answer... I have the knowledge in my head/heart that i honor the Scriptures.
Why do you think it would please Mary to be worshiped i don't think so simply by the fact she was chosen... ... Do you realize from your words here you are saying you pick and choose which part of the Word of God to honor.?I too honour the scriptures but not at the cost of pleasing someone who is the catalyst in stealing the glory of God.
jonahmano... Why hold it against Mary for what others do?
