New, improved, weather report for the day

View attachment 4324

WCC Campus, Bellingham, WA, USA
Latitude: 48°47'39.75" N
Longitude: 122°29'36.39" W

Blue skies.
Clouds where they should be: in the distance.
High today 65°F, tomorrow 71°F.
Calm.

Pretty nice for June. So often it rains until July or so.

Sparrowhawke: I like the 'Clouds where they should be - in the distance'!

Blessings.

Yep we needed that. Rain for a whole week can make people depressed.

(Did you make it to karate practice in the end, by the way?)
Nope, yesterday's practice was canceled, and today's practice I didn't even bother to check if it got canceled because someone told me the entire gym area is still out of order.

Claudya:

Oh I see; ty. Hope you guys can get dried out before too long, anyway.

(BTW, did Herr Honecker approve of karate? :chin )

Warm, and getting warmer. Supposed to get close to 110 this weekend.

But it's a dry heat.

Knotical: Wow, no wonder they call it Death Valley... :chin

Hope you wear a hat and have plenty of Diet Coke handy...

Yeah I hope so too. I hope the gym wasn't too badly damaged. The athletics club that owns the gym where we practice has already called for donations because the flood has hit them hard (their buildings got drowned and they had to cancel a big national youth contest).

(BTW, did Herr Honecker approve of karate? )
No idea. :lol
Karate was practiced in East Germany, but not very popular. More of a minority thing that wasn't encouraged and promoted by the authorities, because not being an olympic sport it wasn't as profitable, and thus they didn't want the attention of the martial arts lovers to be diverted from Judo which is an olympic sport. I don't remember ever having heard of Karate until after the reunification.
Judo, however, was very popuar and widely practiced. Erich Honecker obviously approved of all things that could bring money into our broke country, and an olympic sport could.

@Claudya :

Whether or not Herr Honecker approved, Herr Mielke's people would use something akin to karate on ppl who didn't fall into line, I suppose...

But anyway, the Wall coming down didn't affect the weather (and I reckon the Elbe is really, really high now...)

Well military self defense did use Karate, or elements of it.
As for handling dissidents, they prefered to use bullets and sleep deprivation torture. What a horrible place that country was.
Although I dislike capitalism, but I'm glad that twisted form of socialism is gone for good. At least leaving the country and hating the government won't get you killed any more.

Wow, no wonder they call it Death Valley...

Don't live anywhere close to Death Valley. Just the middle of the San Joaquin Valley. Still gets pretty hot here since there is not much wind during the summer months, and very little rain.

So are you thinking of leaving...? :chin

According to the map, part of California is actually at the same latitude as the southernmost part of Ontario, Canada; I think the coast up there in northern California gets pretty breezy and cold sometimes...

Quite possibly, but reba would know better than I. That area of California stays pretty green, due to the annual rainfall. Incidentally, that is where they filmed the Endor Moon scenes for Return of the Jedi.

Knotical: I think I'd prefer to live in that part of California instead of Hollywood... :) (and not because of the climate...)

Me, too, but then if I had a choice on where to live right now it would not be in the entire state of California. This is seriously a fallen state, and not getting any better, but I digress.

..or maybe, too, God wants you to be a witness in your locality? I'm reminded of the old song:

'This world is not my home, I'm just a passing through'... :)

Blessings.

No redwoods here Knot I am about 5 miles from Nevada :)

reba:

You must be the Carson City / Reno end of the Nevada border, then; rather than Vegas. My wife and I want to go maybe to Vegas (not for the casinos!); good hotels and great deals; mountain scenery, excursion to Hoover Dam, etc...

Kind of dry and arid place, weather-wise, I guess.

Blessings.
