should christian go to college

actually it's all depends on you because you are in control of your self. just let
them speak for what they believe as long as you know your existence and don't let them govern you.
 
I see college as a challenge. It's hard being a Christian at my age (21). Most of my friends aren't Christians. The ones that were seem to have been pulled away from God by the temptations of college life. It's like a mission trip to a land where nobody believes like you. I live strong in my believes and show those around me what being a Christian really is and I know I've made my impressions on most and I've lead others my age to believe like me.
 
Colleges aren't perfect, but there are some that strive to educate in a Christian manner or at least in a less secular setting than other universities. Life is a mission field, when we start avoiding places to witness and then complain about the state of the world, aren't we being hypocrits?

Colleges and Universities are typically secular institutions. You have to expect that if you sign up for a gender studies program in sociology, you will not make it very far if you are against gender equality and support traditional gender roles. You cannot be in a psychology ph.d programme and tell a gay patient that homosexuality is evil.

The University setting is very much a humanistic community. And there are certain requirements, and accepted standards. For example, if I joined an astronomy programme and remained adamant about my belief in a flat earth, so that I wrote papers on it, I would rightly be given an "F" for those papers. Likewise, if you are doing a sociology ph.d and argued that homosexuals don't really love each other, you should be expelled from the programme.

in part i can see that but so much for free thinking and thinking critically.

i would love take one of those feminist light pint size girls to task in the ring and or war.
 
The thing is Gendou, these schools will expect you to explain the positions they force you to study, but regardless of how well another PoV is presented, they will discredit it because of the idea being old fashion or something similar.

The other option to typically state, secular schools, is to attend a Christian college. You education will still have some off the wall ideas, but the background will still be favorable to a growing Christian life.
 
Should Christians go to school? Simple answer: yes.


College is the means of getting a degree for a career, this is a good thing! I don't see how being a Christian should influence your decision to get a higher education..

Many people in the bible were educated; Daniel the prophet, Joseph, and even the apostle Paul who was a tent maker (which requires training).

Do schools teach some things that you may not agree with in the realm of philosophy, science, & psychology?-- of course. But that doesn't mean those things can in any way influence you. We choose what we believe in and what we don't.

College is a great way to let your light shine. Being a Christian doesn't mean we cut our selves off from everything that isn't church.. Being a Christian is a beautiful life of communion with God and letting the fragrance of that be apparent to everyone around us. We are the fragrance of Jesus Christ! To those that are saved AND to those that are parishing.

Not always, you obviously have never heard of Hillsdale College.

No one claims that they don't love each other. Homosexuality is a mental disorder, and it has even been shown that there ARE differences in their brains from what we see in heterosexuals.

While your points are commendable, I just wanted to point out that Paul was a lot more than a tent maker. He was trained under Gamaliel and was throughly taught in the Law and practiced the Law. He was brilliant and understood languages. In my own words, I compare Paul to the Albert Einstein of the theological world.

But yes, you are correct, hoping what I am pointing out is not offensive to you, but actually magnifies what you said. God does not discourage education and used Paul, the most educated of the time, to write most of the Epistles. I get this feeling God wanted it done by no other so as to "get the bible right". :yes
 
Should a Christian go to college? Sure, why not? I mean somebody's got ta lern ya...er...larn ya...well, you know. :lol

Seriously though, colleges run by Satan?...Seems that Christians give Satan waayyy too much credit.

Colleges are run by men...worldly men in most cases...but men none the less. But then again so are elementary schools and high schools.

As long as a Christian measures everything he/she hears by the word of God...that is to say using the bible as the rod by which all supposed "truth" is measured, they'll be ok.

Shoot, I've seen folks ruined at seminaries as well as secular colleges, and conversely I've seen great faith at both institutions...:chin
 
I think of course Christians should go to college, it's unreasonable if we don't. If we separate ourselves completely to the world we will look like fools. We also have to understand that there ARE Chritians on campus even in a secular school. The number may be small or suprisingly it may be large you never know. The thing is we see sin wherever we go.... We just have to live for the LORD wherever we are. If we don't live in the world and banish it from our Christian society many of them won't be able to relate to us.... and will have a hard time seeing the Jesus that is there.

For instance.... Is it wrong to own cellphones? No. I mean many people use cellphones for wrong purposes but is it okay for a Christian to use a cellphone. Yes, it depends on what you do with it. If your going to school to succeed than that's great. God wants you to accomplish things.

Is it wrong for us to use knives? Many people have used knives in corrupt ways. It's humans that corrupt things, not the things themselves. Of course... we shouldn't go into places that are tempting for us. Use discernment. And we also shouldn't pre-judge something because in college.. You can enjoy it there, not everyone is an atheist. Yes, you will run across them but... We still have to get along.

Yes, you should protect yourself from what you hear, see, and listen to but...... College isn't necessarily a bad place. You will probably run across teachers with different beliefs but just use Rate My Professor. Com and also if your taking things like Math lol they can't really push religious beliefs on you. Yes, you will hear about evolution.... :D but not everyone believes in it even in college! It's still possible to keep your faith even when people teach you evolution.

I studied mythology in college. I didn't leave college believing in multiple gods and goddesses.

I not only want my kids to go to college. I'm hoping they go away to college and experience campus life. When I look back at my dorm life and living off campus, those were years in which I really grew. Living away in that environment would definitely challenge them. There will be a lot to be on guard from, spiritually, but it can mean spiritual growth as well. I'll trust that they've been taught the Ways of the Lord and will stand up to the liberal academia as well as the social temptations.

But college isn't right for everyone, and for some there are better paths to take. I don't believe a Christian should or shouldn't go to college based on their faith in and of itself. Preparation for a career can come from different places, and God will use people wherever they are and shape them in different experiences.
 
I don't see any reason why Christians shouldn't go to college. Even if there are secular things going on, you don't have to be a part of it. And if the instructors teach secular things, just learn it so you can pass the class, but you don't have to believe it. I don't believe that colleges are run by Satan at all. My Biology teacher is a Christian and most semesters she chooses not to teach evolution, and when she does teach it, she emphasizes that evolution is a theory and that she is not teaching it as a fact. And this is at a public college. As a matter of fact, the only secular/sinful activity I have seen at my school is the students cussing and smoking. I think for a Christian to choose not to go to college at all because they think it's sinful is very unwise. These days a college degree is a very good idea. And on the topic of Christian colleges, the programs in the ones I've researched seem to be limited to the areas of music, teaching, art and things like that. I'm not saying all colleges are like that, just the ones I've seen have had very limited programs.
 
I'm a Christian attending a larger university (University of Cincinnati) and I would not consider it a Christian institution at all. I AM part of a youth group run on campus with college students and I think it's safe to say that I'm growing in my faith in the environment I'm in. I feel like I can grow with my peers; something I didn't feel back home going to my normal church. I think college is an important part of life for everyone, whether that college is Christian or not.

I don't think college is necessarily something we should not do altogether.. but a couple things to watch out for (beyond drugs and sex and all that blatant sin)

1. Debt is just garbage especially if you want to travel and do missions work, getting $20,000-100,000 in debt is going to suck for you. Avoid debt. If you have family to help or whatever then go for it.

2. Some one posted 'love the lord with all your mind' as a reason to go to college. I do NOT think that's what that verse is talking about, but that's another story. I spent the last 4 years (i'm 22 so right out of high school) on the missions field. Instead of going to college, I went to bible school and the missions field and did ministry. All my friends that went to college know nothing about the bible basically, have never cast a demon out of some one, and are so 'independent' from God that it's sickening. That's what their $80,000 bought them, independence from God. While I've been learning to cultivate a prayer life and fasting and worship and understanding of God's word. I recommend people to stay away from college if they are lukewarm in their faith and aren't exactly sure what they want to do (career wise) don't go to college just to go to college. amen?
